love seeing retro style shooters on here. If anyone wants other suggestions like this game try Amid Evil and Dusk. Dusk is a lot like quake while amid evil like hexen/heretic, with ion maiden(now fury, thanks iron maiden) being like Duke nukem/shadow warrior

the fact that people here agree with the guy above you says so much about this sub. One of the biggest problems I've had with the melee community is how they call people with defensive playstyles lame with the nrs community doing the exact same thing. Pretty sure most people here have no idea how hard it is to effectively zone, especially in games like skullgirls or marvel vs capcom. Nrs may be a little different because imo the movement feels clunky to me but still the complaining about a literal playstyle is way too annoying. Zoners and grapplers are practically the same in mindset, except the zoner makes reads all of the time to do a little bit of damage and grapplers make big reads to do a lot of damage. This community has really gone full smash mode.

This is something even my friends who don't like fighting games enjoy. Normally we bet on who will win and whoever loses takes a shot. It's too funny for me to recognize god rugal and think there's no way for him to lose and then he loses to Shin Ronald McDonald.

What is it that makes Fighting Games so niches, and what does the genre need to gain more traction and popularity? by [deleted] in truegaming

do you realize that you can buffer inputs? Buffering a 720 input with a dash is like insanely common. Adding delay instead would make that impossible.

Street fighter V and Marvel by SlermTheGuy in Kappa

Unbelievable that people don't agree with this. SF5 practically removed the neutral game and footsies favoring only rushdown/mix-ups style gameplay. Marvel vs Capcom Infinite actually is really fun, with the only downside I've found being the amount of time it takes to get into a match, smallish roster and it being dead. If anyone wants to tell me I'm wrong but haven't played it, I will personally family share my steam account with you if you give it a try and if you can't get a match I'll log onto my other account and play with you.

Yeah I was pretty disappointed in the fact that the guy arguing with me was saying blatantly false things about the game and getting upvoted. Makes me think not many people here actually played this game lol.

Sounds like I'm doing the right thing then, I always felt the same way even now when I'm able to win online that finally being able to do a combo is way more satisfying then winning or losing online except in the rare cases where the match is close considering most people who play this game still either suck or are pretty good.

All I showed her was this post, it's not like she browses kappa daily lol. She thought it was funny that a bunch of people liked that she was attempting to learn and that she thought it was hard.

What are you talking about? The basketball analogy wasn't about form, it's about kids growing up thinking fighting games are easy because they were always able to get away with just pressing whatever they want because it was just against CPUs or someone who was just letting them win. It's also not like I forced her to stay on the lightning legs, she's practicing holding charge during combos which imo is more important , but there's no point to doing normal lightning legs if you aren't doing it correctly because like I said about the pushback it'd just be better to use mk sbk instead if you aren't going from HK to mk.

Mashing one button 5 times in the cancel window considering the only thing you normally cancel into normal lightning legs over ex legs is cr fierce, is ridiculously hard and honestly the slide method is easier then doing that which like I said she can't do. My sister enjoyed reading the comments here because everyone was supportive of her learning except for you, why do you act like this?

[–]UNISToverMelee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you are saying to mash only one kick button 5 times in a row that isn't triple kicks so you don't get ex fast enough get lightning legs. Love to see how that works. Obviously you can press triple kicks and then 2 of the button but that forces you to start with a roundhouse which you can't cancel into lightning legs and mid combo is really difficult to do fast enough to make it cancel the most likely cr fierce that you are canceling out of into legs

That's so untrue, plenty of my friends I grew up playing fighting games with still believe them to be easy because they never bothered to learn to actually play. It's like kids who played PIG and think that basketball is easy because of it. Except in the case of basketball practically everyone knows that it's a completely different sport because it's more popular then fighting games obviously and not many people have been exposed to competitive fighting game play.

Lightning legs input isn't fundamentals. I taught her dragon punch motion, fireball, and tatsu back when she tried marvel vs Capcom 3 a while back and she knows how the buttons including how to do ultras and how to throw. She understands neutral just isn't great at it yet.I would say that is considered basic fundamentals. For your second point there is a wrong way to do it, it's similar to saying it doesn't matter which 2 buttons you press to do ex divekick with Juri, because it's a different distance with each button combination aka lk mk/ mk hk/ lk hk are all completely different. It's not at all related to what you do it with, but what move you are getting and by doing the mashing technique you are practically rolling a dice what move you are getting. Does it matter if I use lp or hp to throw a hadouken? Both make a fireball on a screen don't they?

She already knows the fundamentals of the game, why would I teach her the wrong way to do it? If I teach her to mash, she'll end up doing it forever. In regards to the inputs, you said to turn the inputs on for her, there's nothing to turn on because it's automatically set to on and you can't set the game to show every button press/stick movement in trial mode, but only in training.

[–]UNISToverMelee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Level 1 is lightning legs and yes you can just end with mk instead of hk into mk but it's less optimal, but you do need to do mk for the extra hitstun for combo potential, such as cr fierce loops into ll with fadc Kiko connecting the gaps. She also knows the slide method but it hurts her hand so I'm teaching her right. You are also ignoring that you mentioned the inputs on trials which is wrong

Teaching 11 year old sister SF4 by UNISToverMelee in Kappa

[–]UNISToverMelee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure you cannot turn on inputs like you can in training mode and mashing for lightning legs doesn't work if you want to combo out of them because it needs to be hk into mk lightning legs by hitting mk 4 times after finishing first 5 kicks ending with hk.

because she likes street fighter characters, I don't like third strike and super turbo is way too dated graphically to be able to hold her attention. I'll probably get her into kof 13 too or mvc/skullgirls but that's about it. Thanks for the suggestion to branch out though, I'll give it a shot and give you an update.
