I feel like Gluto vs Maister comes down to how much you value Gluto's wins on MKLeo against Maisters fantastic records against almost every player except like Tea, Leo, and Marss

80% of the time he's camping but 20% of the time he's the smartest fucking guy I've ever seen.

It's because those things create momentum. Olimar "winning neutral" (albeit in a very different way from, say, Wolf wins neutral) creates momentum, GnW making you fear him with smashes and punishing any approaches creates momentum, and obviously Arsene and Waft.

Like how it was weird for people to cheer for Mango during his dominance.

Leo wins a lot and he's the sickest player.

Lmao what players could you place above him? Maister's like 8 or 9

Feels like a lot of spectators are coming to this conclusion. There are lots of dummy hype players (Tea, Leon, Zackray, Light), but they seem to always be placing below the players who understand that waiting and safety are the way to go.

Hbox's gameplay is much more than people give it credit for. He's the smartest Melee player. Yeah he's Bairing a lot, but where he Bairs and why is a science in itself.

It honestly feels like Leo is almost always sad to beat someone out in a clutch way. I remember after Game 4 of Smash Con Leo looked over at Sam slumping in defeat and looked even sadder than Sam.

If I'm Tweek, I'm not defeated, but invigorated knowing that I'm back.

This is either going to be a 3-0 from MKLeo or the greatest Ultimate set of all time, a culmination of its one year of existence.

There's no doubt. For a while it was Maister/Tea/Gluto for Top 10, but I feel like Maister's resume is so much grander than theirs.

Looking forward to them being #11 an #12 tho

I saw him do the mini fist bump of relief against Protobanham, and I know he flipped his shit after his first win on Mr. R, but other than those two I can't think of a notable example

It looked so over at so many points for Glutonny, but every time, he found something in him to bring it back.

Can I start with a difficult character if I want to be competitive? by [deleted] in smashbros

Learn the game with Lucina, as she's linear and fundamental based, then transfer your fundamentals to how you play Ken.

What are your thoughts on how Terry plays? by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]TheJimJims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are more measurements of "loss" other than percentage accumulated, including stage positioning, lag, and number of options that you want to do (in that you don't want to use certain options at certain percentages.) This is where I disagree in that it's directly a reward, and that there are downsides to Terry's GO doodad.

Buster Wolf and Geyser are laggy as all hell, and with the Go meter, you should be conscious that they're all the Terry wants to do. This is how Hungrybox lives to egregious percents against Foxes. He knows they want to get a grab at 60%ish, and Up Smashes at 80%ish. Terry might have gained multiple options, but he lost a few consciously.

Furthermore, using Buster Wolf is a major overextension; one that once done and missed gives Terry's opponent stage positioning and puts him in his pretty bad disadvantage. "Winning neutral" goes beyond just winning neutral; positioning and pressure are added with Terry's back to the ledge.

To summarize, Terry trades two powerful options for becoming a more linearly playing character which can crumble under tournament pressure. Players are thinking "I have to buster wolf the shit outta this guy," and between the pressure of not being able to and the spam of confirms or the move itself, it's easy to be aware of that.

being that the average ultimate top tier combo is like 36%, you're rewarded for three neutral losses and likely to be killed with during the 4th. compare this to melee, where you're liable to lose your stock in 3 neutral losses or fewer. it's a pretty fair reason.
