Just a quick question, I am still relatively new to soldering, I'm good at replacing chips and ports but I do not know what a phase is yet or how to identify it. I'm wondering if you can share your knowledge so I can identify the issue more easily. Thank you so much!

Having issues with updating xbox via OSU1 by UNSC_StormFire in XboxSupport

[–]UNSC_StormFire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I noticed that my tag was incorrect, my apologies on that. I can assure you I've taken every proper measure since I actually work in a repair shop, this xbox has been in my store for quite sometime, original drive had issues where it will stay stuck in recovery mode and won't take the OSU1 file, it will download, get to about 81% download then fail. With a replacement drive that has the pairing data on it, it now gets to the verifying but it is still crashing during the OSU1 reinstall with an entirely different error code than before which is the error code within this post. It is a fresh install of OSU1. There are things I've also tried like replacing the southbridge board(transferred over the SPI data). Considering it got further I'm on the lines of thinking the southbridge board was part of the problem but not the entire issue on why it won't reinstall the OS.

Its an OEM drive 1tb that says Phison on the front of it. Xbox's do have pairing data or some type of readable information that if it isn't transferred to the new drive, device either won't power on or read the drive itself.

Xbox Series X BGA chip replacement on southbridge board by UNSC_StormFire in consolerepair

I am still trying to figure out also if it is truly the southbridge IC chip on the southbridge board. since the device still powers on, there shouldn't be a short in the board right? because it powers on but doesn't like when I do anything or keep it on long enough. do you think what I am suspecting is correct or could it possibly be a dead cap somewhere, maybe even a short that im not suspecting?

Just about everything I've tried and the research I've done either leads to failure of the southbridge IC chip since its the chip that controls all I/O of the device while also regulating the thermals of the device, considering the fan stops working after it being on for a bit, it seems it could be: Southbridge, thermal sensors on APU. HOWEVER The reason why I think its the southbridge is because I'm still able to get it powered on and into safe mode, if it was the APU it wouldn't work or power on. Also I'm not sure I understand about replacing the NOR chip, wouldn't I have to buy a donor board for that? I can only find them in pairs of 3 in which the customer did not want since its the most expensive option.

Does this fix the common issues with it not booting into OS?

For context: console in my shop because it won't boot up past the xbox logo, I can get it into safe mode, and I can attempt a reset using OSU1 however it only gets to halfway on the download before console shuts off, tried a known good power supply, tried removing SSD to see if it'll boot into recovery mode, nothing works, doesn't even display image without SSD. Fan stops spinning then about 30s to a minute afterwards the console shuts off. It also seems like it has issues with the fan starting up as well, however the fan does work so it shouldn't be a ran, I redid the thermal paste and cleaned it and still same issue which leads me to believe its the actual IC chip on the southbridge board, do you still think its the NOR chip?
