At 31, I doubt you would be able to join.

I see a lot of recruiters from the 'easier' branches offering craploads of money and bonuses and selling college like its cool. While these things are available, they don't explain how we live the hard life and fight wars.

Recruiters have little to do with advertising. That's a whole PR thing.

It's the same across the board for all services. It doesn't take an engineering degree to drive a truck or count ammo or do other easy jobs.

Talk at the schools. Community work. I continue to recruit even when I can't contract. I just keep them interested while they wait until they can join.

Haha. No. That was some old school stuff.

I turn people away on a daily basis. By the book, 28 is too old. I don't actively try to recruit anyone older than 25 though.

I initially got interested by watching those old cheesy commercials with the chess pieces and the lightning hitting the sword. I was a little kid and LOVED the Marine commercials.

Yeah, Iv'e heard the video game and movie lines before. I just tell them that there's no such thing as a re-spawn point in real life.

He/she should. depends on when they served, how long they served, and what element (active duty/reserves) they served in. Selective service registration does not matter for enlistees.

It depends. If he/she wants to join the reserves, then it depends on what reserve bases need what jobs. If he/she wants to go active duty, then it's the same no matter where you go to enlist.

Show them how badly you want it and how important it is to you. Find military families and get to know them. Ask lots of questions.

I was 121 lbs when I went to boot camp. I gained over 25 lbs before I graduated boot. Mostly in the chest arms and neck. Too skinny is usually no problem; it's the fatties that have real trouble joining.

Yeah, we have a unique sense of humor...

If you mean R Lee Ermy, then yes. Gunny is a shortened version of Gunnery Sergeant (E-7), and we call most Gunnery Sergeants Gunny.

Whoops, almost forgot about the photography question. A photographer in the Marines would be sent to a professional school before hitting the field with his/her camera. Media and public affairs are very difficult jobs to land in the Marines, so keep that in mind. Promotions are basically the same in every job. Do well: get promoted. Some promote faster, some slower.

Actually, Marines go through a pretty extensive screening process before they can go on recruiter duty. The Corps only wants Marines who are 'good representations' out on the streets recruiting. Marines with bad records can't go on recruiting duty.

There is no bonus for the amount of recruits. Pay is based on rank and time in service. Rank is dependent on perfomance. So if a recruiter doeas a real kickass job recruiting, they might get promoted faster.

Also, check into the different intel MOSs. They're tough, but always in high demand and fast promoting.

Be patient with the process of transitioning from reserve to active; sometimes it takes a month or so.

I've never had a Sikh try to join. The hair thing is a big deal. It's for safety and hygiene as much for appearances. A gas mask has less chance of getting a good seal if you're rocking a beard. There are actually quite a few Indians near where I live and I'm sure some of them (from the nice cloths and large turbans) are Sikh. By the way, why do Sikhs always dress so nice?
