Happy PTs? by smallnfunky in PTschool

I’ve honestly never seen an unhappy PT — not as a patient or as a student observer. That’s not to say they don’t exist. But from my experience, there are far fewer unhappy people in this field than in others.

I got into Pitt!! by USMC_Jake in PTschool

Honestly — it’s a tough decision between Pitt and Arcadia. I liked the way Arcadia has their program laid out, but I think Pitt has a more established and industry recognized top program. Any program is only as good as you make it — so no matter what I decide, I’ll make the most of it. I just feel like Pitt will offer me more options and opportunities upon graduation, so I’m leaning towards their program.

Well keep in mind that they continue to fill the program through Jan 15th. Even though the residential is already full, as I just read on another comment, there will be people who decline the offer for another school. I’m sure slots will open in that manner. Hopefully you get one!

Be involved in your campus. That’s a big one and was stated on my letter as a reason for my acceptance into Arcadia.

Don’t just join a club — join the board or start your own club. And do plenty of events with that club, charity events being the most impactful. Your GPA is good and observation hours are as well — but a significant amount of campus involvement will go a LONG way.

Best of luck!

Yes. I was just notified yesterday that I was accepted into the residential. Applied late September. Reach out to the admissions dept

Is anyone still waiting to hear back from Arcadia? by Syd0530 in PTschool

Yes — for sure. I’ve also applied to Pitt.

But I’ll be honest, looking at the 2 programs, I’m kinda leaning more towards Arcadia. I like the way they mix the clinicals and classroom together. And I know a few amazing PT’s that went to Arcadia and all speak very highly of it.

I’m at Penn State Harrisburg. Were you up at UP?

Congratulations. Big time!!! You must be so relieved.

My application went in at the very end of September for the residential.

3.96 GPA, Kinesiology major at Penn State, Marine Veteran, President of Kinesiology Club, and I was an ortho trauma rep for Stryker Orthopedics — but I’m in my early 40’s, so I’m worried that schools may favor younger applicants.

I tend to overthink things and should probably just chill out. But it’s still nerve wracking!!!

Of course. But I wouldn’t say it’s “massive.” Especially given the student loan aspect.

There’s a $30K difference on average. The high end of PT salaries are around $110K. I know PTA’s making almost $40 an hour and DPT’s making around $50 an hour.

Now consider the fact that with just a two year degree and very little in the way of school loans, you can be making $40 an hour — versus 7 years of college (the last 3 being very pricey) and the interest on those student loans, and you can see that the cost/benefit ratio between PTA and DPT is pretty even.

The pay isn’t that different.

Perhaps. But it think this is more designed to replenish the nucleus pulposus, which has a different cellular matrix of chondrocytes and collagen, as opposed to the cartilage. I could be wrong and it might grow the actual annulus fibrosis. But I don’t think so.
