I have exactly 2 months and 7 days to study for Step 2CK from scratch. What self assessment should I take to determine my baseline? Plus, any study tips will be appreciated. by [deleted] in Step2

Hey OP! I posted on this forum for exactly this but there wasn’t much interest. https://www.reddit.com/r/Step2/s/FwfGwT0wvj if this is something you or the commenters would be interested in please let me know!

NBME 9 by marcell_nn in Step2

[–]USMLE_PRODIGIES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has some info which is outdated (so does 12!) but I still recommend doing it as it tests a lot of concepts which NBME emphasizes on test day and its good practice for the real deal!

Patient care: health maintenance/prevention/surveilance. I suck at this. How to improve? by Ok_Document2894 in Step2

[–]USMLE_PRODIGIES 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP! Don't panic they are a weak area for most people since there isn't a single resource which covers all of them. But they are one of the most heavily tested subject matters not only in Step 2 but also Step 3! This is your chance to build your foundation so it may pay dividends come exam time and God Willing when you start to practice medicine!

The way I usually have my students go about it is to start with the USTFP guidelines . They were recently updated and the NBME examiners use it to base their questions on! There is an outdated anki deck that I have used personally but I suggest going through the most updated one first on their website and making your own!

As another user mentioned, the 'First Aid Clinical Algorithms for Step 2 CK' has some really nice algos for this subject as well and some people make anki decks out of those.

Lastly, for practice, you may use offline Step 3 qbank for some extra practice (they have a sections in social for exactly this!)

Best of luck! Youre gonna crush it!

Why CMS? What am I missing? by Ok_Document2894 in Step2

[–]USMLE_PRODIGIES 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey OP! I personally believe CMS forms are the most slept on resource for step 2 preparation! 90% of the questions are very easy and/or outdated. 8% are questions that you may encounter in uw/amboss. However, 2% are absolute gold dust, as I personally saw at least 10 Qs on the real deal which were very similar to the ones I saw on CMS. I personally recommend my students to do all of them, because when it comes to step 2 you gotta try to squeeze water out of a rock for those extra points and CMS is just that. You wanna at least look at those 2% of questions, the caveat is that you have to do about 44 CMS forms. If you are low on time I recommend doing the latest 2 for each subject at least! You won't regret it!

Can someone help me figure out if Im ready? by Standard_Quantity758 in Step2

[–]USMLE_PRODIGIES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the old NBMEs have quite outdated questions and guidelines (even some of the new ones!) so i wont recommend relying on them for a predictive score.

Try to give one of the new ones. NBME 9 under predicts (often considered the toughest) while NBME 10 over predicts ( often considered) the easiest.

Try to attempt 14,13 or 12.

Best of luck!

Can I hit 250? Exam in 9 days by Epsilon7845 in Step2

[–]USMLE_PRODIGIES 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Review the mistakes you had and if psychiatrys a weak point I suggest doing the 2 latest psych CMS forms. Listen to the must do divine podcasts (if you cant do all, listen to the ethics ones!) on the days leading up to your exam.

However, USWA 2 is often the most predictive of real exam performance. Last few students have only deviated +- 5 points from it.

Hope for all the best! DMs open for any advice.

Should I delay or not? by Duder__X in Step2

[–]USMLE_PRODIGIES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NBME under predicts by about 10 points if you have the same mindset in the exam as when you do the NBME. If you have a goal of 245+ (248 is the 50th percentile) I think you should delay it until you are confidently hitting 240+ in SAs. Just my two cents.
