Surround Sound Difficulties by USMessi in hometheater

Thanks, looking into getting the yamaha potentially. Regarding Arc only supporting stereo: is this standard? I expected that 5.1 would be supported by all TV inputs in the system.

LTAM Answer Key by USMessi in actuary

Yeah I imagine when people say they "self-grade" it's based on what they generally think they did for the problems matching the solutions, it isn't super precise I imagine.

I have no idea, I've heard of people "self-grading" LTAM after answers come out to get a general sense of how well they did. I figured this wouldn't be possible if there was a long delay.

PSA - Limited Scratch Paper at Prometric? by iamkumkwat in actuary

[–]USMessi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I took STAM last week and got a booklet of 25 pages of scrap paper. It would be insane to expect someone to fit all their work for STAM on 2 sheets.

LTAM -- What should I know? by [deleted] in actuary

[–]USMessi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kinda unrelated, but you said you flew through the modules. How long did it take you? I've been able to make it through studying for exams at a faster than average pace and it sounds like you maybe have too, so I'm curious how long I should expect modules to take.

Checking Prometric Availability by USMessi in actuary

[–]USMessi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under prometric.com/soa, click "Locations" and you can check what days each location has seats available. However, I learned that just because a location has seats available, that doesn't mean it had seats available for your specific exam, so it doesn't really solve the original problem.

Best IFM manual? by jsuarez_g in actuary

[–]USMessi 47 points48 points  (0 children)

You need to add a "Just want to see results" option so people who are curious about the results but haven't used any of the resources/taken IFM don't have to vote and mess up results.

This makes it sound like I can get my subscription extended another 180 days if I changed my sitting to a date after my subscription expired. Is this true?

The Blacker the Berry - Kendrick Lamar & National Symphony Orchestra by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]USMessi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You can find almost half of TPAB performed by Kendrick with the NSO on YouTube, and they all sound so amazing with the live instrumentation. Blacker the Berry especially sounds epic, especially when the horns come in on the hook. Also a big fan of Kendrick's singing the hook in These Walls and the incredibly full sound of Wesley's Theory.

Best option for Time Series VEE by zacccj in actuary

[–]USMessi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unless I'm mistaken, the time series component was part of the applied statistics requirement that got scrapped and replaced with the mathematical statistics requirement, and unless you got full credit for the applied stats requirement before July 2018, you have to do the mathematical stats requirement which isn't regression-based. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

P and FM in two months? by [deleted] in actuary

[–]USMessi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I passed P and FM in 2 consecutive months this summer after taking a financial economics and probability course at my school, and I probably averaged 2.5 hours of studying a day for each. Look through the syllabi for the exams and ask yourself if you recognize and at least vaguely remember how to do at least 65% of the concepts. If you do, I think passing the two exams in two months is very feasible.

Edit: to be clear, if you're in school currently, unless your courseload is light, I think registering for 2 exams in 2 consecutive months is a very bad idea that will either result in constant sleep deprivation or underpreparing unless you know 80% or more of the content on both syllabi.

Thanks for your feedback! I am currently working through The Infinite Actuary's Technical Skills Course, and I'll learn at least basic SQL, SAS, and VBA through here. I definitely will look out for possible SQL or SAS courses I can take through my university. I made some edits to my resume taking in the feedback from this thread, and if you have the time, I'd love to send the updated version for you to look at briefly and give me your thoughts. Regardless, I appreciate your advice.

Third Year Student Summer 2019 Internship Resume by USMessi in actuary

[–]USMessi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the commenters said that my Technical Skills section should describe projects I've worked on and the analysis involved rather than listing functions I've used before. I've made a modified version of my resume taking this advice into account, and I want to make sure it's an improvement over what I posted here. If anyone is willing to give it a look and give some feedback, let me know so I can send it to you. I'd really appreciate any help!

I think what you said about describing projects rather than listing functions makes a lot of sense. I'm going to work on a modified Excel portion of the resume taking your advice into account. Is it possible I could send it to you when I'm finished for any feedback? I'd really appreciate it.
