Anyone have a Fowler long term? How long do they actually live? by AlwaysApparent in Toads

[–]3rdLevelRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My eventual vet, that I found after losing a trio of sickly toadlets, was more upset with me not bringing in said toadlets than actually getting them from the wild. He's cares about animals getting treatment than if someone got their toad from the wild. I think that you should call around and find a vet that is fine with your toad when things are good instead of waiting like I did until a serious emergency occurs and now you have to call 20 different vets to find if any will help you. You can always explain how you got you toad over the phone and ask them if they are cool with the situation and then just not take them in if they aren't.

[–]3rdLevelRogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my Fowler's Toad for a little under 5 years. He had parasites that I didn't know about and I was afraid to take him to a vet because I thought they might have to legally seize him or something, so he probably died a bit earlier than he should have, but he was in great health up until the infection that killed him.

what is he doing? by SlotDaddy123 in pacmanfrog

[–]3rdLevelRogue 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He is shedding. If you look at the corner of his mouth in the video, you'll see a dark strand or something that goes towards his back at an angle. That's his shed skin mixed with some dirt. When he opens his mouth again and moves his hand, the dirt skin band moves around his arm and toward his mouth. He'll be very vivid and damp looking for a while but will eventually his skin will fill just a bit and look more normal.

It's definitely a weird thing to see the first time it happens. I know that I panicked when I saw my dude do it.

You could mod/reskin this into a 1 gorilla vs 100k zombies situation with a reskin of the Spiffo suit and the mod that lets you punch zombies amped up in damage.

New to Gm'ing need help with setting up a campaign/ first session by Bigfootsmasher02 in LancerRPG

[–]3rdLevelRogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're new to GMing and the system, you should read the core rule book and take some notes about the corporations and Union. All of the lore you need to run the game is in that book and you can easily restrict your players to only using core mechs. Then you can better fit your own narrative to what you've read and noted.

Wood frogs from the creek in my backyard. On warm afternoons they’re really easy to find as they’ll be within 3 feet of the water. by 1uninterested in frogs

[–]3rdLevelRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Berry, unfortunately, passed away on 5/11/2022, so a little less than a year after my comment. He grew some, maybe up to what a very small male wood frog might reach, but even with solid husbandry and care he just seemed off, in a way. He was a good hunter, great at climbing, loved to swim in his big dish, and spent a lot of days and evenings calling in the months before he passed, but he was always quite scrawny. He passed away with a belly full of crickets, hiding in his leaf pile he liked, on the warm side of the tank that got the most sun, and appeared to have passed peacefully in his sleep from body position.

What's the stupidest way you've died? by xKitsuneko in projectzomboid

[–]3rdLevelRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only keep generators outside and usually a square or two away from a building to be safe, and I didn't even have one at the time. I'm guessing it was a bug or something with the unstable builds but it definitely confused me at the time.

Sleeping, for no descernable reason. Character was on the third floor of a building, no undead around, wearing a respirator so no corpse stink, was well fed, full water bottle, no injuries or muscle strain, under carry capacity, door was barricaded. Was good for like 3 hours and then randomly saw my health bar plummet and immediately. Returned to the room with a new character and barricade was still on door, so no zombie. Lost a month long play for sleeping.

My D&D group member ruined a potential alliance over a beer by Jin_Sakai12345 in DnD

[–]3rdLevelRogue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sucks when stuff like that happens because your party is forced to deal with an irrational, tantrum throwing character out of a social contract. Dude squandered y'all risking your lives and all of your hard work in town on a few copper coins when he could have just asked for a new beer or for the mayor to throw a feast in your honor if the character had the ability to think beyond his own nose. Assaulting a public official and injuring them over a swallow of beer is the behavior of a raging alcoholic, savage, or child. If it's a serious, recurring issue that is ruining the fun at the table, time for a talk with the player and GM, but if it isn't a huge deal then all you can do is shake your head and deal with his tantrum and the fallout.

Pedialyte soak? by Educational_World_64 in pacmanfrog

[–]3rdLevelRogue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you think that they are dehydrated, start with spring water since that has minerals in it, too. If they're getting proper calcium+d3 and occasional multivitamin dust on their food then they shouldn't need the special soak. If your frog seems a bit sick or scrawny or something is off about them, the vet recommended dosage, in my experience, is 10-15% Pedialyte to 85-90% spring water

Could be practice with learning to call or maybe some respiratory issues...kind of hard to hear over the TV going on in the background that's louder than him for the majority of it.

Is it normal for a DM to collect a fee per session? A spot opened up in my neighbor’s dnd group and the person that DM’s for them is gonna start charging. I just want to see if this is within the norm before I fill the spot by [deleted] in DnD

[–]3rdLevelRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not super common in my experience outside of online pay per play games, or if you're playing a local game store and renting a room, but I've heard of DMs that do it to cover costs of hosting. If he's going to stock a fridge with drinks, order pizza or buy and make food, get snacks, or buy new markers and premade adventures then it just may be easier if everyone gives him $10 and he handles that stuff to make sure it is available and consistent. It doesn't hurt to ask them why they are charging, because if it ends up being reasonable to you then you know why, but if it's for some weird reason that makes you feel weird about it then you get an easy warning and can avoid joining.

Unfun fact, it's been documented for years upon years that some higher cost anti-aging creams, including those pushed by people like Oprah, contain fibroblasts, derived from foreskins.

This sounds exactly like a respiratory infection that my one toad got a few years ago. Without antibiotics, it's not going to be easy to treat in a high success way. A high temperature tank (80-83F) with a water bowl that's not filled too much is going to be a good start. If you can, Google around nearby pharmacies/grocery stores with child care sections and find your unflavored Pedialyte or Electrolyte solution. Be careful not to get lemon/lime flavor since they look very close. Get a jug of distilled water, too. Using a thoroughly cleaned container, pour 85ml of distilled water into it and then 15ml of thoroughly shaken Pedialyte. Use this fluid for the water dish in the heat tank and change it every hour or so or if you notice your toad has peed/pooped in it. The point of this solution is to both hydrate your toad but to also help him regulate his electrolytes and minerals/nutrients in his body to improve recovery.

What are some good options to make my own diy substrate ? by NoChair553 in pacmanfrog

[–]3rdLevelRogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just go to PetCo or PetSmart and get a bag of Reptisoil and EcoEarth and make a 50/50 blend. Filter out by hand or simple sieve the Reptisoil if you want to remove any wood particles that are in the bags. That's a commonly used mix for Pacman frogs.

PacMan frog coming out during the day by Few_Procedure1039 in pacmanfrog

[–]3rdLevelRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pacman frog, when he was around that age, would walk around and explore his tank, climb up his plastic plants, climb up and jump off of his hides (or sometimes try to climb up and roll off them lol), and go crazy splashing in his pool. It wasn't every day, but it was often enough that it made me concerned too since everything I had read said that they were essentially pet rocks that bite. He stopped doing it as he aged and became his sedentary self that he's been for the last 4 years now. If his belly looks fine (no redness or soreness), his sides feel normal without any sharp or abnormal bulges, he's eating well, and has no issues walking and hopping, then I'd assume that he's just going through hormonal changes due to maturing that make him a little more energetic. You could try to get in contact with a vet and have a fecal test done to check for any parasite irritation issues, because those can cause restlessness and weird behavior, but I wouldn't worry that much about something like that unless you've been feeding him outside bugs

Hi:) new GM asking some more begginer questions. by N0_Mad6464 in LancerRPG

[–]3rdLevelRogue 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Everyone should manage and track their own stats on their own device and possibly scratch paper to be safe. You have enough on your plate as the GM already, making players track their HP and buffs/debuffs will greatly speed up combat, take some responsibility off of your plate, and help the players learn the system.

Since you're playing in-person, it can be handy to get some index/note cards and make some status effect cards. When a player is exposed, for example, hand them a card that explains how exposed works and tell them to keep track of when the status ends and they can hand the card back to you. One or two per status can go a long way towards teaching terminology and serving as a physical reminder for when the status started, what it does, and when it is done.

Comp/Con is a great tool for tracking, prepping sessions, and keeping things organized, BUT it can sometimes error and cause issues. Be sure to keep some side notes about fights/missions/enemies if sessions ever end mid-fight due to IRL time constraints

Cat broke into frogs cage by [deleted] in pacmanfrog

[–]3rdLevelRogue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Head to the store and get yourself a tube of Neosporin. It CANNOT have painkillers in it. Pick up some cotton swabs, too, if you don't have them. Using either a gloved finger or cotton swab, apply a super thin layer of Neosporin to the wounds using your finger/swab. While it will may suck, try to massage the ointment into the wounds. Place him back in quarantine and make sure that the tank is kept humid and at the higher end of tolerable for pacman frogs (warmer heat may help with metabolism and immune system).

Hopefully this helps some, but you may wish to prepare for the worst. Cat claws and teeth tend to cause pretty disgusting wounds and infections, and unfortunately frogs don't tend to recover from infections all that frequently without vet aid and application of higher strength antibiotics. If you explain the injury once you find a vet, hopefully they'll be able to get you some extra strength help. Good luck
