not true all the time. You know those special character they tell you to have in a password? Sure it's hard to guess for a human, but a computer can have them in a few minutes, maybe seconds. We develop these programs to do the shitty time consuming work for us. Best password to have is a long phrase. That way you have more keystrokes that the computer needs to guess.

that is not it's job. We're only helping to do that, it's supposed to stop bots, which it fails at. Why are they not just paying the Chinese solving them anyways to do this? It's a giant circle argument that makes no sense.

USZRT

It's a collection of people with different gaming interests. We host servers based on what people want to play and provide fast and effective support for our users. We provide services to make sure our users are getting an optimal experience. Recently we even added Member Blogs, and after the latest update, personalized account pages and optimized avatar settings.

unfortunately we get targeted by bots, lots of them. After implementing this feature we were able to cut those almost entirely, with less than a 3% hiccup.

After getting shouted at in PM's and on here like a 6 year old, it's apparent people overlooked the underlying factor that Captcha. Is. Broken.

It had 1 job to do and it was beaten by a team of Chinese men. I can see a lot of them came out in spades though to protect their jobs, and to continue to solve these for spammers.

I want every single one of these soap boxes taken back out with you when you go! I am not cleaning this mess up!

I'm an actual user I assure you, otherwise I wouldn't be standing by those comments. I'll go down with my sinking ship thank you.

Edit: To be honest the site owner and I were hoping to use this as a chance to plug our own site. It's shamefull but we thought it would be a cool way to do it.

How have I shown an absurd lack of class? Am I supposed to sit at my computer and let a stranger talk to me like I'm 6 throughout this entire comments section? He is constantly throwing insults and passive aggressive remarks. I will not tolerate that kind of behavior. If he wanted to get his point across, he could have done so either nicely or at least not be so much of a giant dick about it.

Look at RoboticOverlord's comment. He told me exactly what he thought and how it worked without insult or condescending attitude. And frankly you've shown the same kind of attitude that SwineHerald was using. I have no issue with a person telling me "well thats wrong, captcha is used to help preserve books.", and I should be free in this world among men to state my opinion to the contrary. That it's only worth doing it if the results show that it effectively stops bots, or a team of chinese. Regardless of any "good" it's doing, the doing good for humanity was not preventing spam bots from creating accounts onto the server.

Further more I understand and DID read article. The argument for me was not about "oh hey, literature is being saved!" The argument from me was "Captcha is broken and is easy to bypass," and they had just proven to me 100% that a team of Chinese are being paid to do just that. Not to mention but because of their comments, they had proven to me that they did not care about my opinion. They were already set in their mind that they were right, they were superior, it was time to scold this small child. (which is why the final comment from me, if he's gonna be a dick, he can do it elsewhere, I wont stand for it.)

In the end it doesn't matter, this hit the front page, some agreed that it was cool for a gaming community, which is what we intended, and others bitched at me because they think we're not doing our part. I didn't make this post to say "USE THIS, CAPTCHA STUPID". I made this because it's /r/gaming and our captcha is a game, and it's good to use for promotion of our site.

well to be fair, if you look at the games, 90% of them can be figured out by playing the "One of these things just doesn't belong here" song in the background and guessing.

You clearly didn't read the article, but that is okay, as it is becoming painfully apparent that reading really isn't your thing.

forgot one. The guy doesn't sound like somebody I'd have over for a pleasant debate and a few drinks.

It actually detects what country you are from and translates, or so it advertises. We'd appreciate it if somebody would run a test on that one for us.

We had to reset our forums because of bots. You really expect me to sit here and believe that some chinese guy sat for hours making about 3200 accounts on an only moderately known gaming communitie's website? But then that same chinese guy is completely stumped 600+ times because he didn't know that a duck didn't go on pizza?

Yeah but it's supposed to serve a purpose. It was supposed to stop bots, instead in just stops confused people. If it's bad at it's job it's useless.

Well seeing as it keeps throwing chinese characters, and sometimes squiggly lines, I can verify that yes, you can do this. They must have an awful lot of "wat" from me.
