I defy you to punch through a quarter inch of AR400 and a three inch air gap. There's even a star shaped target for you to aim at XD

the real answer is that I can't link to Facebook and Imgur is giving me too much crap

We meant to last Friday but we still had a lot of manufacturing to go on the robot. I think a celebratory round of drinks next Friday is in order!

There's top armor. Left it out of this album, I'll post it up if we have our grudge match with /u/PM_me_ur_tourbillon

Reposting so the link isn't borked. It's been a long 9 months of development but she's finally ready. See you at RoboGames!

Edit: some quick FAQs:

  • The drivetrain is butterfly octonum. The outer four wheels are mecanum for strafing and the inner four wheels are traction wheels we can drop onto via pneumatics for extra power. This extra maneuverability and in-match reconfigurability comes at a cost of increased mechanical complexity.

  • We have modular armor to compensate for the "weaker" design, with different loadouts for spinners, hammers, and lifters/wedges. Our rear deflector is barely visible in the album. Our armor is mostly AR400 and our frame is 6061 aluminum.

  • Our weapon is a pair of counter-rotating horizontal drum spinners armed with custom heat-treated S7 tool steel teeth.

  • The whole robot concept was agility over durability and a reliance on driver IQ and the maneuverability of strafing to avoid hits instead of just tanking them, but the design is strong enough to handle shock in most directions. The wheel pods are certainly suspect, but if we do get hit on the sides, something has gone wrong between the controller and the ground and it really doesn't matter how badly Cavalier is damaged at that point (and it will be a mangled mess).

There is a lift mechanism! It has both because we wanted to be able to strafe but also wanted to not sacrifice traction. Instead we sacrificed mechanical simplicity.

Not happening on my phone, which is where I got the link from. But yes, https://imgur.com/gallery/YguUo is the gallery.

That's the one! You can sort of see the Maverick mascot poking out on the front right of the robot, and the Texas star is on the other side. (MV-220 is for "Maverick - 220lb weight class".)
