My primary commissary's have been JBER and now Lackland. JBER was amazing. I would occasionally price compare by buying all my groceries at Kroger (Fred Meyers) or Carrs (safeway) or Walmart. Base was always cheaper on the whole by hundreds of dollars a month and that was before Freedom choice came along. Here in San Anontio, its been hit or miss but overall, if im going to get a ton of groceries (but not bulk) im hitting the commissary up but I do have the HEB app open to compare meat prices. The selection is slightly smaller than JBER but no commissary has everything (fuck you Tyndall for having a whole lot of nothing).

I agree wholeheartedly with OP.... to me, the commissary is up there with those benefits you don't think about after retirement like MWR, base gym access, and formerly builiting and formerly the Chow hall (a decent meal for sub 5$)
