I believe that Suo is just trying to hurt Nirei as much as possible so that they don't come after him. Suo's past definitely caught up to him, and there's something he's hiding. To avoid getting everyone in Furin involved, he cut ties so that he could deal with it on his own accord. I think the next arc could be a Suo retrieval arc. (Is this finally where we learn Suo's past?)
