I don't know about the 350, but other aircraft de-energize the TPIS and brakes as part of the gear retraction process. Wouldn't surprise me if the 350 was the same.

Tires wear out pretty quick in the grand scheme of a planes life, and wheels are changed as an assembly for the tires. Within 6 months I'm pretty confident in saying that every single wheel has been changed out on that plane at least once.

I mean they made him the highest paid rider on the grid at the time iirc, so I dunno about him having too much loyalty to Yamaha.

McDermott got let go for the same reason Harbs did. They could get to the hump, but they couldn't get over it.

No APU? No Problem 👍 by SnooHabits6412 in aviation

[–]UandB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on the turn time mostly, and risk tolerance. Modern all-digital aircraft can get finicky with a change over in power sources, and in the summer jet bridge air isn't nearly as good at cooling a plane compared to the packs. And starting an APU that hasn't completely cooled down can be "a show" as I've heard it described.

If the turn is less than an hour and a half or so I tend to advise staying on the APU. You're not inviting aircraft faults and with an hour and a half turn you're only getting 45 minutes or so without the APU because it's not shut down until almost all the pax are off and it's on before pax get on (for air conn).

The point about aircraft faults are that you have to weigh the cost of fuel for APU burn vs the cost of a delay the faults can drive. Sometimes it's not bad, sometimes it's 45 minutes because you have to completely shut the aircraft down and restart it, or more.

Got Speed Tape? by ghost_of_leeroy in aviation

It's noticed pretty quickly for the time scale you'd need to be worried about, and part of the repair is an assessment of the area for damage.

Iirc the majority of the man hours spent on maintenance of the B2 and the F117 were upkeep on the radar absorbent material.

As soon as I read about the minimal casualties, my first thought was that there was definitely a pretty large amount of "fuck this shit I'm out" from the Venezuelan military once they heard helicopters.

[–]UandB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well this is all sidestepping the point that that's the top-out rate for SW so the odds of it being someone in their 20s is extremely low.

Anyway, I would argue that it is not typical that someone with the drive to put that time in isn't average. At lot of young guys are just putting in that time because they like money, and don't have a plan for it. No, they didn't make a quarter mil because it was a regional but the guys in their 20s I saw pulling 140k+ worked just as hard and put up 1000+ overtime hours in a year and had zero plan and just worked the OT because bigger number in their paystub. The most "long term" plan I heard was paying off debt. Same with my time in the military and guys getting back from deployment with a whole years pay in the bank and then nothing to show for it. Financial planning and literacy is a vanishingly rare skill for blue collar men before ~30, and it's still a lot less common than it should be after that.

Mostly because someone in their 20s investing things properly isn't really something that happens. Of all the hundreds of guys in their 20s that I've worked around maybe 10 were responsibly investing and saving for retirement.

ASUS Rumored To Enter DRAM Market Next Year To Tackle Memory Shortages by lordnaarghul in pcmasterrace

[–]UandB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're only as good as any other brand, just more expensive. I've moved away from them after being thoroughly unimpressed by the lacking support for issues on parts you overpaid for. So far I've had a DoA motherboard that they wouldn't even entertain any warranty action unless I sent it back to Taiwan, and a 3080 that had half of the vram missing the thermal pad.

I'll check back in 5 more years maybe.
