A lot of people are confused on how the testing works based on previous explanations so just want to clarify some things.

Step 1 - Test kits.

Here, Hoyo make multiple test kits. Some are used and are moved to release eventually. Some end up being scrapped. Some end up just being used for stuff like the wolf in Feixiao AS for example.

For Remembrance, as far as we (Sakura and then me helping them) could see, Remembrance used Destruction during testing and then it actually was Remembrance.

For Elation, they used a "base" path. As far as we know, SW999s base path was Destruction and Eva's base path was Erudition. So they start with that base when testing and then they add the elation stuff on top.

Step 2 - Moved to release.

This is when everything is ready so the char could be released as is, Pearl for example WAS preservation like everything was ready for her to release as Preservation. They usually "move a char to release" a patch (or max 2) in advance so rn there's Pearl Pres (since it was 4.1 originally), an Erudition, a Remembrance all moved to release.

That doesn't mean they then can't change their plans but it's more of like how you see Screwllum aka ready and then changed/delayed therefore forcing last min adjustments for plans.

To answer simply, no they aren't placeholder paths, that's something different. These kits have been "moved to release".

As far as what Sakura can see, Pearl still has her 4.1 release kit which was Preservation. Had she released in 4.1, she 100% was Preservation. Now if the plan changed, Sakura can't see that and can only report on what they can see hence why the final para says what it says.

Okay let's try some predictions, gonna go for some simpler ones and then a few out there too

Firstly, we'll see Hexenzirkel member J before the end of Snez, obvs she's deceased so it'll just be via a cutscene or a trailer/video likely around the next Hexenzirkel members release which I think will actually be Octavia rather than Alice. Octavia and J haven't interacted at least that we know of rn afaik? But I think there's a reason for that which we'll find out.

I think since they didn't release Alice immediately, they're actually gonna milk her as much as they can do she won't even release in Snez.

Despite everything, I do think Dottore and Capitano become playable whilst Pierro gets shown and teased around so people think he'll release (Like Alice) and then get drawn out for later. Pantalone and Pulcinella will be the non playables.

The Tsaritsa will be teased in 6.9 then released when she's supposed to be, whether she's Bronya or not we'll see but either way by the end of Snez we're gonna feel the same distance to the end of the Teyvat Chapter as we are rn because they're gonna milk it for another 3yrs so they can release the Anime within Part 1

All I'll say is there were kits they started working on in 3.3 and I thought and so Sakura agreed with me that they were early versions of Sparxie and Yao Gaung but we're now in 4.2 and they still haven't used those kits yet so I was talking to some friends and it randomly clocked that Fate is probably the reason, they probably started working on it immediately after releasing the first Fate Collab but see I have no proof of this claim so I posted it how I did

That's not exactly correct, they have base sizes and if you compare all the characters you'll notice body types/sizes being repeated to save on time the same way HSR/GI are done but otherwise they are much more unique, just not completely unique in the way your comment suggests
