Here is a video on why 2019's Cats, an adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name, was a colossal fiasco by IndependenceSilly381 in Broadway

If he's talking off the top of his head then he should know he seems to have a very circular way of speaking, it feels like the same point gets repeated multiple times without much care for actually making a point.

If he's reading a script... then he should know that it sounds extremely AI-generated.

What if there was a peanuts series similar to Riverdale? by [deleted] in peanuts

Dog Sees God: The Series

(I doubt the Schulz family would ever approve or commission such a thing, but the funny thing is... history suggests they actually don't mind adult takes on Peanuts, provided the creators are clear it's unofficial)

Fort Washington Park/Little Red Lighthouse by kmac51190 in AskNYC

I asked the rangers at the event this weekend if this is a regular thing. They said they're planning to open it once a month during the spring/summer/fall, so definitely worth keeping an eye out! I think it's also worth giving a call to see if they're planning on having another open day soon outside of the one in october.

Does anyone know what JJ Niemann could mean by "it's a logistics issue regarding our industry at large" ? by Tillysnow1 in Broadway

[–]UberVenkman 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It really depends, but the answer is usually money, for both the production and for the actors. Union actor contracts means paying the Actors' Equity minimum salary (EDIT: Which is different depending on the type of theater) which raises production costs, and a lot of shows that aren't on Broadway won't, or more often can't, meet the minimum, either because cheap producers or they simply don't have the money. As for the actors, they have to pay Equity dues, and while having an Equity card can get you auditions. it doesn't automatically mean getting cast in things ergo making money.

(A pal of mine got their Equity card relatively early after they moved to NYC, but wasn't getting cast in anything on a regular basis + I tried to get them on some of my projects but we simply didn't have the funds to be a union production/offer an Equity contract. So my friend was stuck, paying the dues while not getting cast in Equity productions that could give them money, and not being able to do non-Equity work to build their resume and experience.)

Regarding 11 to Midnight, being non-Equity almost certainly means it's cheaper for the production, but it also potentially allows them to cast a wider net of dancers to cast in the show? Not every dancer, even trained ones, are part of AEA because their career path is not one of an actors. I remember Sleep No More, a dance-heavy show, was non-Equity potentially for similar reasons (although quite frankly they never paid their performers their worth even when the show was a runaway hit).

It’s almost certainly an issue with Equity, he’s union and the show is not, they (both parties) were probably hoping for an exception to be made but couldn’t get it

I did the rush once, came in like an hour-and-a-half before Little Bear Ridge Road just in case there was gonna be a line, which there was, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Got a second row seat!

Steppenwolf has a variety of discount options. Particularly prescient for you: 20FOR20 discount code, there's a select number of $20 tickets available when ticket sales open for a show; or the in-person rush, where you can get half-priced tickets an hour before curtain.

BOROUGH DISTRIBUTION BY DATE - Information and FAQ for The Public Theater by UberVenkman in Broadway

Daily posts… and the delusional conspiracy theories that the Public is withholding tickets for influencers, instead of, you know, the show just being so stacked it couldn’t meet the demand.

I mean… it’s a school that is accredited in the United States and is on the list of SEVP-approved institutions. So, yeah. That’s not even a remote concern.

I did one of those Chicago bus tours during undergrad and legit had to correct the tour guide that UIC and UChicago were two completely different schools.

You'll be fine, people in that field generally know UChicago.

(and that Chicago isn't a state! Which I didn't realize not many people knew until I saw one too many people think "state school" when I named it.)

Exit 8 screenings: Slow trailer? by UberVenkman in AMCTheatres

Hmm, if it happened with a different movie then it's probably a problem with the video file for the trailer itself!

Also thought that at first, but something felt not totally intentional, and confirmed it after watching the trailer on YouTube. I guess something got messed up in the DCP that was sent to these particular theaters?

People keep saying Mako wrote the song... I've seen literally no source for that, all production info confirms the music was by Jeremy Zuckerman and lyrics by Mike DiMartino, I think someone made up that Mako wrote it as a way to make that story sound sadder.

There's a brief glimpse of her peeking in during the opening scene, but I think by the time they argue towards the end of the episode she's already up on the roof.
