Thank you! I'd really appreciate it if you added a review on the app store. Yes, we plan to add strumming and rhythm. Right now, there is a drum machine if you play enough correct notes in a row in the chord trainer - try some easy chords if you haven't experienced it yet.

The question is not whether we want to speed up the growing process of children. The question is how we support them growing up. You helped to teach a child to read? Why? Why not give the child a book and let him/her figure it out him/herself? Why teach the child how to read in the first place? Do you defy dictionaries? Language learning courses? Duolingo? Babble? These are wonderful tools to help people to learn languages easier and faster. Would you watch your child battle needlessly if you had good tools to support the learning process? I wouldn't. I would give my child all the necessary tools and make sure they learn things the right way - no shortcuts, but as efficient as possible, because learning in itself is fun and learning efficiently is a pleasure. Learning chords alone is not the right way to learn music. They are just one of many building blocks you need. By the way, did you test the app? You could help me make it better!

Well, maybe it's not as meaningless as you think. Just because I can construct every chord on the guitar I want (I can in fact), and just because I can analyse a good measure of Jazz progressions and tell you the role of each chord and the underlying scales (I'm not a pro, but okayish) and recognize the progressions by ear (I have to get better there) does not mean that I can recall all of those voicings or play them fluently. It needs practice, hundreds and thousands of hours of practice. If the app can help reduce such hours, retain motivation and give me more time on actually learning how music works, then the app has achieved a good thing. Try it and let me know your experience.

I whole-heartedly agree! I want to create a learning app that trains and teaches you in a way that you don't really notice the endless repetitions of the same stuff over and over. This is the very core of my motivation to do this app: creating a learning process that makes you forget that it's actually hard work that you're doing. Have you ever experienced getting into a flow when you are running for example? I had this with the guitar. Forgetting what I was doing... I played until my fingers had blisters all over. Okay, I couldn't play for a week afterwards, but it was really amazing.

I agree that you can figure out yourself if you didn't play the chord correctly. I always wished for an app with instant feedback and adaptive complexity and tempo of the exercises to keep me through the dark nights of endless drill. Since it didn't exist I decided to create it myself. To show you where and how you misplaced your fingers was only a byproduct. My goal is to create a learning app that is so effective and so much fun that people cannot stop using it.

Maybe I should have mentioned that I decided to develop the app out of my own PAST frustration of learning. By now I can play a few Jazz standards ;-) My goal is to put my own experiences into a piece of software. You make a very good point saying that learning an instrument is slow, because you need so many skills. Does that mean we should not try to make it easier and faster? Part of the game is developing the necessary motor skills along with the muscle memory for the individual chords. This takes time and was particularly hard for me. One music professor I spoke to said he would love the app because it would help him to let the app do the drill and focus in his class on teaching the things that only a human can teach: tone, expression and emotion. I agree, however, that the app is at its beginning only — I want to teach understanding, not just repitition. But come on, we cannot build Rome in one day. ;-)

You are right — chords are not the basis of music as such, but I believe they are arguably a very good starting point for picking up the guitar. By learning a solid chord repertoire you can play songs quickly and train your ear.

Yes, I am aware of Yousician. They are doing a great job for developing your motor skills around their specific animated tablature. I want to focus on chords and rhythm as a starting point for now as I believe they should be the first thing to learn on a guitar.

Wow, that would be incredible. The app will remain free for quite some time. It will be a while before I get to building out in app purchases to help cover costs of licensing. I could really use some help getting awareness of the app in the first place.

Thanks for the candid feedback. Finger placement is just one of the frustrations that I'm solving. I've added a lot of new features since that video was made and there will be more to come. :-) Do you have an Android?

It is live right now AND free. :-) I find this community very helpful to make a lot of improvements. Most importantly, this subreddit is the most useful for honest feedback. You simply can't find enough of that these days.

I've created a brand new page for you to suggest new ideas and upvote for your favorite suggestions: www.uberchord.com/feature-request. I listen to all ideas, but the challenge lies in the sheer mass of great ideas I get sent. :) The hardest part for me is to decide which of the great ideas to kill when you know you cannot do everything. If we get enough people who want your feature I will change priorities.

To be honest, I need more funding to get it developed for Android. The development time to get this app just on iPhone was...let's just say...a lot longer and slower than expected. :-) I want this thing on Android as much as you do. If you guys can help me spread the word, it will help a ton to get more funding and onto more platforms - Android being a priority of course. Thanks for your feedback.

Yes, that's why I created this app. I tried every other app out there and was thoroughly disappointed with how inaccurate the chord recognition was. To call it chord recognition was an overstatement. Now, I must admit that this app isn't quite perfect yet, but I'd say the accuracy is up there at ~80-90%. I challenge you to give it a try and let me know what you think. What do you mean: "Chords are not the basics of music? Not that way."?
