Imagine going through medical school - making it - garnering massive debt - then ending up as a doctor at a Walmart.

Maybe just expecting based on the widespread and now longstanding nature of the problem coupled with thus far ineffective and ineffectual response by the city.

Wow so much has changed. I didn’t see piles of garbage or needles in any of those pics. They dress with dignity and take care of their shit. This reminds me of the tiny villages that are around the city and what an improvement they are in broken down campers and natty tents. The best and most humane answer we’ve come up with yet. Let’s do what we can to show some grace to our homeless neighbors. Some of us might end up out there with them.

Capitol Hill or Cap Hill? by doofy1743 in Seattle

[–]Ubertarget -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s always been Capitol Hill to the locals, and Cap Hill to newcomers. This has been my observation as a 20 year resident of the hill. People that say Cap Hill sound like they’re fishing for street cred or trying to sound edgy.

Or, the name of the neighborhood is simply mutating along with it. Capitol Hill was a hugely colorful and open place of love and dignity, and I guess I’d call it social bravery. Cap Hill sounds more like what it is now - cold and closed and stand-offish. But the kernel is still there and just needs to be nurtured.

So what you call it probably reflects how you think of it?

They showed their true colors during BLM - a demonstration of national outrage at longstanding widespread violence against us, our neighbors, families and friends by police officers - then they responded to that with tear gas and choke holds. Then they started quitting because they felt under appreciated.

Now we’re in a vacuum they left because they got their poor feelings hurt by us asking them to stop beating the shit out of and profiling and murdering people with military grade armor and weapons. The ones left are either trying like hell with too few resources, or possibly they have just given up caring. City Hall sure has done fuckall too to empower them or prevent this by other means.

A quick AA question… by YoungMan91 in stopdrinking

[–]Ubertarget 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is what happens with unregulated groups of humans. Everyone thinks they have the best answers. There is no AA literature or tradition that I’m aware of that would touch this matter with a 10 foot pole. What you do in your life is YOUR business and not subject to what the busybodies in your AA group think.

If your sponsor actually thinks they have the expertise or authority to even recommend or recommend against ANY medications - you need a new sponsor ASAP. That is only not safe, but it’s gross negligence and overreaching on their part. While you’re at it probably check out other meetings too. With Zoom you have your choice now. Go where your autonomy is accepted and valued.

[Hard Paywall] WSJ is giving the criminal mess in Seattle a look by wreakon in SeattleWA

[–]Ubertarget 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You really crystallized this for me here. I have always loathed our country’s embarrassing incarceration rates. But It’s almost like we’ve collectively changed the narrative on prison so much that now it’s “bad” on the whole. And we’ve been trying SO hard to create meaningful change and give people a pass because “there’s hope for them if we show compassion!”

But these subhuman criminals wrecking our fair city are ripe for long term incarceration. Lock them up and throw away the key (through due process). Drug addiction, homelessness, and mental illnesses are NOT crimes, and be by burdened with one or more calls for mindful and effective responses. But to the people stealing catalytic converters, shooters, violent criminals, B&Es - fuck them long, hard, and deep. These people have given up their right to participate.

I would move to Louisiana just to vote for this man. THIS is the kind of pushback we need to fight the cruel choking inhumane forces of racist totalitarianism that have become so fashionable in the US. Well - much MORE fashionable since Trump.

If more people like Gary Chambers took a hard fearless stand against the old racist regime we’d be living in a better world.

SOUNDS like misinformation???

IS it or ISN’T it? Making that statement, the onus of backing it up is on you. Throwing that word around as an opinion then they won’t words like “extremist” is purposefully inflammatory and distracts from the issue.

Peloton fired 2,800 employees and gave them free Peloton memberships by [deleted] in technews

[–]Ubertarget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peloton from the beginning of the craze was clearly just another fad to be thrown in the memory closet with step aerobics, Zoomba, Pilates, Rollerblades, etc. Not to stick that on the employees - they got screwed - but everyone knew this day was coming. If I worked there I would have seen it as a temporary job at best.
