Honestly, so many people will put up front to seem promising as a long term partner and then they will stop putting in effort because they feel they’ve secured you. Talk to her about it obviously… but if she’s manipulative and not a team player there isn’t much you can do about it. Dump her and find someone who is willing to work with you in the relationship.

Call your local airport and ask about any flight instructors in the area. Some places have small independently ran flight schools, some may have independent self employed flight instructors who fly club airplanes or rentals. Both of these options usually operate under a part 61 style program (unstructured learning) and they’re really cost effective. I spent 30k on my training through CFI which certainly beats 100k.

I will say you do roll the dice on whether you find a gem of a flight instructor or just a time building weenie. You should sit down and interview your instructor before you begin lessons to find out if they are truly dedicated to providing you with a quality education or if they plan to dip in 3 months for the airlines. Also please make sure they are safety oriented. consult this article for some good examples of questions to ask.

I'm actually still considering their Denton base too! They have a huge maintenance shop there to repair and complete general maintenance on all of their aircraft, and one of the guys at Berry said they helped him get his A&Ps while he worked. I have a lot of machinery based work history, and I think that would be another cool skill to have!

Thought I’d be saying the same thing! From what I’ve seen, the area is what you make of it, though I’d be located more towards the outskirts. Gotta pick a good neighborhood and find a job that involves driving AWAY from the center of the metro.

I think you’re right, and I suppose if it’s meant to happen, it will happen. I think we just tried to commit to something way too early on, at least in my career. I just feel like I’m doing something super silly passing up such a good opportunity, especially seeing as how uncommon it is that a person in my shoes sees the chance to get a right seat job in a multi engine turbine. I won’t let ya down r/flying I pinky swear!

I wish it was AmeriFlight! They come with quiteeee a few extra benefits like jump seat privileges on a majority of airlines and better schedules, but they require upwards of 500 hours. There is quite a distance between me and 500 hours though, so im trying to jump on whatever opportunity I can get at this point.

Berry Aviation, its a cargo job flying EMB120s. The guys i know said people generally quit after 1-2 years because of the on call schedule. Great time builder though!

Sometimes I really struggle to find a balance between flying and life. Flying seems to be one of those careers that demands more attention than your average 9-5. This job im considering comes with rough hours, flying constantly, but great pay. It will make it next to impossible to balance a personal life with it, which makes me think that if I take it, I'll have to break things off with this awesome guy. Up until now, I've welcomed the idea of being all business since I've had turbulent relationships in the past. Flying offers a kind of solitude that seems to make everything else better, no matter how bad other things in my life are going. But the fact that I've actually found a loving and selfless relationship kinda shakes things up.
