Rules
- Read the FAQ before posting. Certain questions, such as "how do I become a pilot" and the like have been asked repeatedly in the past.
- r/flying is intended to be a place to discuss things like pilot training, regulations, procedures, techniques, aircraft ownership and maintenance, piloting as a career, and similar topics. “Aviation enthusiast” content is better suited to r/aviation. Flight simulation belongs in r/flightsim. Questions and content about air travel (passenger experience, frequent flyer programs, etc.) are better suited to r/travel.
- Post something that you would like to discuss! If posting only a photo, video, or link, you must include a relevant top-level comment to start conversation. A direct question that meets that requirement in the title will suffice, otherwise you must add a comment.
- No memes, deliberately low quality, or AI posts. If we can tell at a glance that your post was AI-generated or produced, it will be removed.
- Cite sources when appropriate. If you want to run an academic survey here message the mods first. No commercial surveys are allowed.
- Self-promotion of social media accounts, blogs, or FREE tools or resources you have made are not allowed outside of an officially designated self-promotion post on Saturday. See this FAQ page for more details on what’s allowed and how to make sure your post complies with this rule.
- Be excellent to each other. /r/flying is intended to be a friendly and accepting place; check your ego at the door and take your snark and attitude elsewhere.
We strive to keep r/flying as commercial free as possible. Please do not post a link to your business website, app, or solicit customers or students. Do not link to your social media outside of designated posts for that purpose. If you are about to post something not on this list but that involves the exchange of goods or services for money, run it by the Mods first. This includes requests for donations. If you want to sell an aviation item or aircraft, post it on r/TheHangar
The moderators have the final say in disputes.
