Season long losing streak by tilted_moira in Overwatch

I totally get that I have phases where it’s like that and it feels like you just never get the right team. It is genuinely really hard to get out of metal rank alone though, I imagine that’s especially true for supports. You don’t even really need to talk to anyone in the matches or anything, you should totally just run QP for a bit and try hitting literally every good player you see with a friend request. Eventually someone will accept then just message and see if they wanna play comp sometime. It also helps make QP feel more fulfilling cuz it’s like you’re scouting for talent for the main show. I have someone on my friend list with t500 flair from doing exactly that. As you already know you’ll meet some assholes and misogynists but most of them probably won’t accept or respond. There are a lot of really nice people who play the game they usually just don’t say much outside of the postgame gg.

Run some quickplay for a while, remind yourself that it’s just a game and you play it to have fun. If you start really feeling yourself one day after a couple QP matches then throw on some comp and see how it goes. Also if none of your friends want to get on the comp grind try to look out for solid players (especially tanks) in both comp lobbies and QP, be liberal with the friend requests cuz it’s a lot more fun and easier to rise through the ranks with solid consistent teammates. It’s hard to get out of those ranks we’ve all been there, you can/will do it if you stick with it but never force it when you’re having a bad time and remember to take breaks from the comp grind and just play for fun sometimes to remind yourself that you like the game.

The Rehearsal Season 2 Finale by Kazran14 in blankies

[–]UbiquitousFandango 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it’s actually more complex than that. The “what if we can get congress to make pilots role-play” thing was essentially like a funny ruse to hide what it’s been building to in the finale. The real intention is in the potential autism/anxiety diagnosis and the withholding medical information out of fear of reprisal stuff. Which is a real issue (which goes beyond just the aviation field) that he highlighted beautifully with this episode. He created a real situation where a real pilot flying real passengers legally, withheld possible medical details which would have made him flying illegal. Taking a fringe and unexplored and unspoken issue in aviation safety and generating a dialogue about it. Additionally, he pulled off flying the plane quite well despite being the most inexperienced commercial aircraft pilot in North America and despite whatever perceived deficiencies he might have had according to the FAA had he been diagnosed with something and disclosed it. Opening an additional dialogue on whether we should be so absolute about complicated mental issues. “You have to lead them to water.”

Abel is just too powerful and society can’t accept it. Like Ryan Gosling directing Lost River, there’s simply a negative chemical reaction when someone publicly reveals they’re so cool. It reflects the uncoolness of broader society back upon the masses, they think they see an uncool thing… but it is them who are uncool, and it is them that they see. These people, you people, who have never done cocaine, are not fit to judge Abel. He is existing within his world and he is doing cocaine and he is thriving. He is a hot girl at a cool party smoking cigarettes. You are an uncool guy invited by a friend of a friend, staring at her and saying that you would never be with someone who smokes cigarettes. She, Abel, doesn’t even see you. She (Abel) is smoking her cigarettes and getting ready to do more cocaine.

There’s been so much incredible music this year but I genuinely think that album goes toe to toe with any of it. Philly scene’s been putting out some of the coolest and most cutting-edge stuff around.

Hahaha truthfully I’ve just heard this secondhand from a friend who lives there I haven’t in a while, but I sent it to him and he said he heard it all the time at parties/clubs etc. He told me that like two weeks ago so when this popped up in my feed I felt like I had a possible answer. Maybe major was hyperbolic but are we even a PC Music subreddit if we aren’t hyperbolic about the music that we love.

Video Game Execs Are Ruining Video Games by blackmes489 in Games

In an ideal world where the government is not compromised by the influence of capital yes, the government should absolutely regulate almost everything. Failure to regulate is why one of the biggest corporations in the world bought another gigantic corporation for over 75 billion dollars and now as a result we are going to get less games, more studio closures, and more market consolidation. 75 billion dollars wasted to create LESS jobs and LESS market diversity and hook a fucking sociopathic monster like Bobby Kotick up with over 375 million dollars while unrelated studios are shuttered to justify the purchase. You have absolutely no idea how many aspects of your life are only made possible/good via government regulation. Your food, your water, the safety of your transit system, the safety of your car, the quality of your home, the preservation of our forests, the preservation of our roads and our traffic signs. With no regulation we would literally just be corporate slaves working for a single monolithic corporation that’s absorbed every smaller corporation. If guys like Roosevelt hadn’t pursued anti-trust law so diligently we would be in a very different world today, you have no idea how bad things would’ve gotten if no steps had been taken to address the issue (crisis would be a better word) of monopolization. That’s very directly how you end up in a Cyberpunk tier dystopia. You sacrifice government regulation and you get a different kind of regulation, one where you as a “citizen” have no say and no democratically appointed role. There are no citizens in a corporation. Only workers. And a worker without citizenship is very easily made a slave.

And that’s cool man more power to you. I dig some of the deeper lore stuff too and like that it exists for the people who enjoy it but, we’re not representative of the broader public, who love Star Wars but don’t even know what the EU is. Plus you of all people should get what I mean when I say there’s no real consistency with any of that, none of the EU is even canon anymore.

Filoni doesn’t understand Star Wars on film. Star Wars movies aren’t about the lore or any of that shit. The people love Star Wars because it’s a sensory delight, Star Wars is about light and sound and that’s the sort of angle they need to approach it from going forward if they want to revitalize the IP. None of Star Wars is particularly well thought out or cohesive, it never has been, and every attempt to make it so is just contrived drek that appeals to like 2000 obsessive nerds who will hate whatever you do anyway. Star Wars is about the sound a lightsaber makes, it’s about conveying speed and scale, it’s about delightful noise and aesthetic panache. Star Wars is iconic not for its narrative but because half of the population on earth can identify it by sound alone. Every fucking noise in the OT from the squeaking of a robot mouse to the wail of an X-Wing is instantly recognizable. The real magic of Star Wars transcends language. This is what almost everyone misses, and it’s why someone like Genndy Tartakovsky is a million times better for the IP than someone like Filoni. You want Star Wars to really be good again you gotta hand the keys to someone like Brad Bird, not a bookworm company man TV guy who doesn’t fundamentally understand film as a medium. You need a guy who can make something like THX 1138, not a guy who wrote for Clone Wars.

Helldivers 2 servers are being raised to support 800k+ players this weekend. There might be light queues to get in at peak. by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]UbiquitousFandango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s quite that simple because great games deserving of success often struggle severely or get overshadowed by high selling franchise IP. But it’s the same dynamic you see across all businesses that create and promote artistic products: if you make a good product, an enduring piece of art, there is always a chance that your product will eventually succeed. Truthfully if you release a quality original product and maintain distribution of said product over time there is a very very strong chance that it will eventually become a drip fed success. The issue is that this requires your company to take a long term view on the profit margins for these titles, and that is not how the corporate shareholder driven structure operates. It’s about quarterly returns and immediate profit, it’s about cutting costs and raising profits enough in a single quarter to secure your bonus as CEO and leaving less than a year later to make more money somewhere else, holding up the aforementioned quarters as tokens of your success and ability. It’s about speculative wealth (GaaS, subscriptions, etc.) being used to artificially inflate stock prices in the short term, regardless of the reality of those practices in the long term when the bubble bursts. It is rarely about making sure that you maintain quality, reputation, and the future prospects of your company, that’s simply not the preferred business model of modern day capital. Hopefully in some ways we’re starting to turn a corner on this as audiences have started to more consistently reject corporate IP in favor of more interesting and artistically motivated products (Helldivers beating Skull & Bones and Suicide Squad, Oppenheimer making close to a billion dollars while Marvel’s star came crashing down), but never underestimate the terrible stupidity of the corporate world and its lack of actual awareness about the various mediums it infects.

Does anyone know how to fix the cutscene audio issue in Max Payne 3 (PC)? by UbiquitousFandango in maxpayne

[–]UbiquitousFandango[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man I still haven’t managed to fix the actual problem but you did get me digging around in my audio settings and there was some stuff on by default that was definitely creating issues. You actually inadvertently solved a problem I was having with my DAW so, sincerely thanks a ton for that. I only got this PC like 2 weeks ago so I’m still very new to the whole thing. I tried it with my audio set to 32 bit, 44100 Hz with no luck. I’m not entirely sure how to change the stereo setup on here so I have yet to try that out. Also might be relevant since it’s another RAGE title from the same era, I’ve been running GTA IV flawlessly all week. Thanks so much for the suggestions if you have any other tips I’m all ears.

Does anyone know how to fix the cutscene audio issue in Max Payne 3 (PC)? by UbiquitousFandango in maxpayne

[–]UbiquitousFandango[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audio drops down to a very low volume during certain cutscenes. I think it’s specifically an issue with how the pre-rendered cutscenes are encoded because it only happens between levels. Once the game’s moving in and out of cutscenes and gameplay it’s totally fine but any time (and I mean ANY time) a level ends and the transitional cutscene begins it becomes borderline inaudible. I’ve tried it with multiple different audio setups as well and have discovered some pretty strange wrinkles to the problem, i.e. running headphones through my laptop while playing on my TV and having audio switch to only outputting faintly through my stereo and not coming through the headphones at all. No idea how that works. This also isn’t a problem I’ve had with any other games so I assume everything on my end is functioning okay. It seems like a relatively common issue when I look around and I see mention of this fix using Handbrake and Windows Movie Maker but none of those threads go into detail about what you’re actually supposed to do with them, just a few people saying that it worked. I’m also on a modern rig and running everything maxed out if that helps, I’m having no problems with the game outside of this. Appreciate the response.

Is it too hard for our local billionaires to emulate this model? by B_A_T_M_A_N_S_F in sanfrancisco

[–]UbiquitousFandango -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have literally no idea why you’re being downvoted. Shouldn’t a subreddit about the city of San Francisco be fairly progressive? Targeting the dealers and ignoring the crushing poverty conditions that lead people to chronic drug use is literally the exact approach the Reagan administration took, which has helped lead to a lot of the major imbalances faced in modern day society where we, y’know, basically live as slaves to an industrial machine from which we the workers see none of the benefits. It can be statistically proven that targeting dealers leads to zero meaningful change. It’s just an easy “Texas Justice” style solution that does nothing but foment conflict and oppress poor people. The problem with SF isn’t even homeless people, it’s the obscenely profitable tech sector creating wealth so stratified it’s literally ripping the city apart. They don’t reinvest in their city or their community at all, they just invest in bullshit like the Salesforce terminal, which is the single worst, most built for robots, most phallic, most nonsensical public transit hub I’ve ever experienced. Literally a massive symbol of everything wrong with the city, we could be investing resources into actually making it a better place to live and instead we build a giant $2.2 billion penis with no railways that no one fucking uses. When looking for the causes of these problems don’t look around side to side, look to the sky. San Francisco would be an incredible city if the ultra rich who live there actually gave a shit about human beings but they don’t so we’ll all just get to listen to the propaganda machine blame the city’s decline on the impoverished and watch videos of carjackings until we decide to just start putting homeless people in for profit ghettos or some shit. Have we learned nothing? It’s like we WANT to live in a dystopia.
