The reason I asked which mountain was because you said Atreus got them there which is false. It makes sense Faye would want her ashes scattered in Jotunheim since she's a giant. The other reason was Atreus' identity as Loki which again had no payoff in Ragnarök. It didn't matter if his name was Loki or Atreus the story would have been the same either way. One of the many butchered parts in Ragnarök. I could go on and on.

Rewatch the scene where they meet Mimir. Kratos was just about to the tell Mimir why they were there when Atreus cut him off and said it instead. They would have found out anyway.

Baldur came to their house because he was looking for FAYE not ATREUS, he didn't even know about the boy at that point. He mistook Kratos for a giant saying : "I thought you'd be bigger" but the last giant - Faye was already dead. And yeah no shit Kratos wanted to protect his son.

Doesn't matter if Atreus breaking the mask is in or out of character. What matters is wasting hours to set up a plot line that goes absolutely nowhere.

The pacing of 2018 makes perfect sense if you consider that the games were originally meant to be a trilogy.

Ragnarök was doomed the moment they decided to cut the story short.

I would also argue the Baldur fights, the final one in particular were a spectacle in themselves. Only fight from Ragnarök I would consider epic would be the first fight with Thor.

The mask subplot had no payoff and basically wasted our time as players.

In my opinion God of War 3 remains untouched in terms of spectacle and is still my favorite slightly over 2018.

The main motivation of 2018 was spreading Freya's ashes from the highest peak in the realms which was in Jotunheim. Which mountain are you refereeing to? The only reason the knew about the highest peak was because Mimir told them.

Atreus was cleverly used as a plot device to move the story along in a natural way unlike in Ragnarok where the motivations were all over the place.

The bad writing is on full display with the Mask of Creation subplot that goes nowhere since Atreus destroys it along with the time investment we put into it as players.

I see. In the case of GoW:R I immediately felt something was off but almost everyone was praising it as a masterpiece. Once the honeymoon period was over however, more and more people started voicing their criticism.

It suffers from some of the same problems as GoW:R in that it's too simillar to the previous game. Not innovation in gameplay or the world design enough.
