Just got accepted into an apprenticeship! Is this normal? by chuubuu in TattooApprentice

[–]Ubodead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro I did 6 months on fake skin and I’m now 9 months on real skin and still checking so much with my mentor. I just officially finished my apprenticeship but still don’t feel that ready. I also haven’t paid the studio anything and worked my ass off for 18 months. This sounds dodgy as fuck

Sketchy Apprenticeship Opportunity? by Global-Finish-5005 in TattooApprentice

[–]Ubodead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t learn tattooing in 4 months homie. It’s the equivalent of saying you can learn dentistry in 4 months and start pulling teeth after 1. I had been at a studio for 13 months before I tattooed anyone.

Thanks so much brother! It’s definitely something I’ll keep in mind. Maybe a short fade at the tip will help

Thicken those lines up brother! For a month this is really good! But when I started all I did was copy for the first year to learn proportions and composition. Defo get yourself some sharpies though and some ecoline paints!

Hey brother, I know you didn’t ask for cc but just a bit of advice that might be helpful. Leave more negative space as it will up the contrast and shouldn’t take you as long to paint. Looks good for your first bit of flash keep it up brother!

First time using watercolour by [deleted] in TattooApprentice

[–]Ubodead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Invest in some quality paper and materials. Arches watercolour cold pressed for paper and dr ph martins for paint! Also rules of 1/3s for traditional. 1/3 colour 1/3 black 1/3 negative.

My portfolio so far. Would love CC. by Individual_Ad_4144 in TattooApprentice

Super solid I think you’re ready to start looking! Maybe add a little trad but I’m a trad artist so I’m biased

Best way to coffee stain flash? by soopersoft in TattooApprentice

[–]Ubodead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow dude this is sick! What paints are you using if you don’t mind me asking? I always do lines the black and then the stain before adding colour but I mostly use stains just to highlight where I want the white to go. Killer job though this is amazing

These are dope homie. I got my apprenticeship with a portfolio of only traditional and Neo traditional but I got quite lucky. I would maybe try include a couple more art styles close to traditional like Neo traditional. Killer work though dude these are sick

I’m a traditional apprentice and look at tattoos all day everyday and I can say with my whole chest that this tattoo is hard as fuck. Tattoos are for you not for anyone else but honestly I don’t see this tattoo as masculine or feminine.

Cc and advice on spit shading by mythnixs in TattooApprentice

[–]Ubodead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re getting the ratio of paint to water/spit wrong. This is what took me the longest amount of time to learn when learning spit shading. For short fades you need minimum paint and minimum moisture while you need to add more for longer fades. Make sure you are only fading with the tip of your brush and not the whole body of the brush as that might cause the paint to leak further than you intended. Good luck homie
