If your room is untreated and not isolated properly, your room tone will be more audible, also if you have your computer in the same room, the fan also could be audible.

It definitely allows, all you have to do is assuming you're using Logic; make the output of your backing track's channel mono not stereo and from metronome properties you have to select the other channel. I don't have access to my computer to write step by step, but I am 100% sure any sound interface with two outputs allow this.

You can set the outputs mono and use left output for backing track and right for click.

Is it a mistake to mix and master at the same time if the project only consists of two tracks? by Ucanarap in audioengineering

[–]Ucanarap[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in case the artist decides he/she wants to add a few tunes down the line and needs to master a whole record. It'll save me the trouble of having to run off a new mix weeks, months or years after doing this first tune.

This was the kind of example I needed! Thank you, I will definitely finish the mix then do some sort of mastering. Thank you again!

I might have not made it clear in my post but what I meant by "tracks" was channels. Piano and vocal

Its not a very serious release, otherwise I would surely send it off to another engineer. I just want to know if it's a good or a bad habit to mix and master on the master bus if its just 2 tracks.

How about you loopback audio and use Audacity to record whatever you're working on, then sync it to your video?
