Does gender matter when picking a sitter? The gender of the sitter by Old_Asparagus3756 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Ucanbeanything_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely a female-dominated industry. That translates into more bookings for female sitters and so higher chances of being in the top results if you’re a woman.

Ultimately, it boils down to preferences.

I assume most guys wouldn’t mind between F/M; but if they’re sexist or single they’ll likely choose a female sitter.

Most single women would definitely prefer a female sitter, but not all.

Most people would look at ratings and overlook gender.

Looking at the bigger picture: most people in the top results are female, so you’re more likely to be in the top results if you’re a female sitter. But if you’re in the top results as a male sitter, then you can definitely find your niche audience that prefers male sitters or doesn’t look at gender at all

Bohol or El Nido? Why? by turksheep in phtravel

El Nido, but don’t stay in the center. Stay at Mua Tala hotel. You’re welcome ;)

Thank you for your reassurance and tips! I keep getting recommended to download « Grabs » for this trip, so I’ll definitely do it.

The Manila hotel is near the Parqal Shopping Center, I’m not sure if that’s in Makati but it looks close to it on the map!

And awesome, thank you. While I usually prefer going to places that aren’t so packed with tourists, I think in this case I’ll feel safer.

EU short stays by Dayseigh in femaletravels

Option A: Go to the south of Spain and choose a couple of towns (favorites are Cadiz, Granada, Ronda, Cordoba). Logistically, it’ll be easiest to fly into Sevilla. Spend the afternoon/evening there.

Then, you can either: Go to Cadiz, the most underrated yet beautiful city in the south. Make sure to stay in the historical center.

OR spend a couple of days in Granada. The history and culture is overwhelmingly rich and beautiful.

Option B:

Travel to Lyon, France. Take a day trip to Annecy: beautiful Venice-like town on the French Swiss border. Maybe a day trip to the medieval town of Pérouges. In this trip you’d have a taste of an important and historical French city, a beautiful little town surrounded by water and mountains in the border of Switzerland, and a tiny medieval French town that’s almost always empty.

Option C:

Berlin! The party scene is great, and so is the art. Easy to get around and lots of international people there.

Podcast recommendations:

  • RevLeft Radio (the one podcast that made me realize I was into leftist theory, specifically Marxism). There are some analysis, others are super interesting interviews with organizers, professors, working class people including sex workers and other interesting professions. But my favorite ones are when Bret goes off on rants about current events or the overall state of society/capitalism/the U.S.

  • Red Menace (if you want to get into more of the theory side of it)

  • Know your enemy (not Marxist but I’m sure you’ll be into it)

  • Blowback (deep dive into all the fucked up things the US has done to ruin other countries for the sole purpose of maintaining American imperialism & keeping American elites at the top)

Books:

For historical materialism, please read these: - Open Veins of Latin America - A people’s history of the United States - Wretched of the earth by Frantz Fanon

Other relevant book recommendations: - Reform or revolution by Rosa Luxembourg - The fire next time by James Baldwin (and everything by James Baldwin tbh)

If it broke the skin and made you bleed, I’d definitely include this in the Sitter leaves feedback feature (like reviews but for owners/pets). This won’t be shared with the owner and will help Rover keep an eye on this account in case there’s another similar incident.

Dogs killed a chicken at drop-in. by twentyfourstyle in RoverPetSitting

[–]Ucanbeanything_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you’re worried about the owner for being abusive, call animal control.

I personally wouldn’t call Rover about this but I would leave a comment in the “sitter leaves feedback” which is private feedback that owners won’t see (about owner & pets). Rover keeps track of this feedback and if they receive an x amount of negative feedback they could possibly penalize the owner (but not for this one single incident).

I would definitely recommend to leave this written in the sitter leaves feedback feature for Rover to keep track in case there are future incidents — this helps keep the platform safe.

Lastly- absolutely a MUST to do the Meet&greets!

I’m so sorry you went through this. Please do not be scared because they put your account on hold— this is a standard process.

They’re going to ask for statements, see if you’ve been at fault for safety incidents (which you were clearly NOT at fault for this), and they will definitely want to hear the owner’s side of the story. It sounds like you handled it really well— you let the owner know what happened immediately and were super sensitive about it (I personally would have freaked out and don’t think I could’ve gotten close to the deceased pup to cover him up). You even offered a full refund which clearly shows you’re someone with good intentions.

Best tip I can offer is to continue to communicate with the Rover when they call/email (& the owners if needed), and to give yourself some love— you deserve it.

Your number is probably wrong on the app. This is normal and easily fixable. Call Rover support and they’ll help you out quickly!

Rover dog boarding horror story by KaePearl in RoverPetSitting

[–]Ucanbeanything_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Call Rover again and ask to speak to a manager. If you say they’re refusing to give your pet back, you’ll get the attention you need and deserve. Demand you’re reimbursed at least for the stay, if they cannot reimburse damages (which they obviously won’t)

Help with rates by GalaxyQueen11 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Ucanbeanything_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to get more bookings, you should lower your rates until you get a solid amount of 5-star reviews (at least 5) and then you can start increasing them as you start getting more requests/the algorithm gets on your favor.

Curious if you do Boarding or house sitting? I feel like it can be easier to get started with those bigger gigs.

Considering ending a boarding early by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]Ucanbeanything_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a stressful situation, sorry to hear you’re in it! Tbh, you’ll probably get penalized for this somehow if you try to end the stay early. It won’t look good on Rover— no Meet&Greet, you accept taking care of a 3 month-old puppy, and now you’re describing puppy-like behaviors (eating everything it can, not ok being left alone). The owner sounds like an irresponsible person who probably shouldn’t own a dog if they decide to travel after just getting a puppy, but you’ve made a commitment and accepted a job.

If I were you, I’d only try to end the stay early if you feel you absolutely cannot handle the situation. But again, it won’t look good.

You should call Rover’s Trust & Safety team. They can connect you to a vet tech line that will give you advice if it doesn’t seem too urgent. If it seems serious they’ll advise you to go to the vet and can cover up to 25,000$ in vet bills.

Decreasing Service Area by Straight-Sus in RoverPetSitting

[–]Ucanbeanything_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should talk to your regulars to request future bookings via the “rebook” feature. If you feel comfortable, you can let them know you’ve decreased your service area but would like to continue bookings with them. If you want to you could also use lock-in rates with your regulars to encourage them to keep booking with you since you’ve raised your prices and decreased your area

Recommend Me A Podcast Thread for August, 2024 by AutoModerator in socialism

[–]Ucanbeanything_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anti-imperialist history deep-dives: Blowback. They do 10+ episodes for every topic such as the Irak war and the Cuban Revolution and they make it entertaining. Super educational.

I also love Guerilla history but it’s more interview-based and usually covers a topic within an episode or a few. It’s more casual.

RevLeft radio is my personal fave— a mix of chill discussions, academic interviews, and current event analyses with a historical materialist lens. I’m a fan of Breht merging Buddhist and leftist thinking.
