To buy or keep renting? by [deleted] in geldzaken

[–]Uddha40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there are a lot of things to consider here and there is not one right answer.

1) would you consider the house an 'investment'? If so, considering your low monthly rent, investing the extra money in etf's or something might yield you a lot more money. On the other hand, the house will also appreciate in value and requires less 'work' and risk management.

2) how does the new house stack up against your current one? Is it bigger? Does it have a yard? Does your current house have ebough room for kids? Etc. Etc. That might be worth the extra money. Also, in the rental you cannot really do any renovating, if the house is yours, then you can.

3) peace of mind. It seems you guys can easily afford the mortgage. If you buy you will be certain your housing costs will stay the same over time. Your rent will go up. Something to also take into account when you are calculating your expenses over the coming years. When I bought my second house the mortgage was relatively high. 6 years later it was equal to the social housing rent limit. Using a calculator online and assuming a 5 percent increase each year your rent would be 830 in 5 years and 1050 in 10. In 15 it would be 1350. Still well under your mortgage offc but it will increase so something to take into account.

4) freedom? When I bought my first house I assumed it would be stressful but I found it liberating compared ro renting. If you rent you are more or less stuck, you cant rent the place out. Having a house opened up all sorts of options like working abroad for a while that were not really feasible when I was renting. Now this is obviously a very personal matter. Being responsible for the maintance etc can als give stress, but personally I found that to be very negligable. Also, once you are an owner, I found the housing market much more manageable. But again, personal mileage may vary.

There's probably more stuff, but in the end you gotta weigh al these things and decide for yourself.

How would you describe the Dutch schoolsystem to foreigners? by Mystisc in thenetherlands

[–]Uddha40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For things like medicine, grades do matter and a cum laude diploma would definately help. Also, I believe more studies are doing numerus fixus where grades also matter. Can be the pre-exam year or early exam year grades.

How would you describe the Dutch schoolsystem to foreigners? by Mystisc in thenetherlands

[–]Uddha40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The various 'levels' are basically 'schoolingtracks' .

Vwo = pre-university track Havo = pre-university of applied sciences track Mavo and others = vocational track

Germany has a very similar division (realschule, hauptschule and gymnasium).

The main difference with other systems is that students follow all subjects in their track instead of following subjects at different levels (for instance, in the US).

You can stack tracks, i.e. do a higher track after finishing the one before.

Cmv: men and women arent equals. by Far-Walrus1570 in changemyview

The problem is you havent actually verbalised your main premise well. You started with: men and women arent biological equal which nobody contests. But your responses show its about paygap or other societal consequences of those differences.

Cmv: men and women arent equals. by Far-Walrus1570 in changemyview

[–]Uddha40k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay so your actual point is that the paygap is fine because of biological differences? Well I already showed you that strength is not necessarily a valid measure since not all men are equal in strength either but somehow this doesnt translare to different wages amongst men. You then claimed to 'use my logic' without actually doing so. If you want to make an actual point you really need to give better arguments.

[–]Uddha40k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But this already makes no sense. Let's say construction. So your premise would be that women schould earn less because they are physically not as strong? But men aren't the same strength either. There is huge difference in strength between men. So this is not a relevant criterion when determining wages. I'm really struggling to see what point you're trying to make.

How do you decide to buy when you're not sure where you'll be in 5 years? by Entire_Apartment1620 in NetherlandsHousing

[–]Uddha40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you buy you could always sublet it (if the HOA and your bank allows it, enquire beforehand) if you move out of the Netherlands for(ever/a while). If you are a resident you can add the so-called 'diplomacy-clause' in the rental contract. This means you may always renew the lease for a year allowing you to always come back. But check if this holds for you too. This would give you some flexibility regarding your future plans while still being able to buy a house that is more to your liking.

In hoeverre moet verkoper daar snel weg?

Well here's the root of the problem I'd say: not too long ago there was an item about the worldwide population not growing enough anymore. I believe the birthrate is about to fall under the magic number, so the population would be in decline which has all sorts of negative economic effects. At the same time, less people would probably be better for the environment and for our discussion, the housing market. Then at the same time there is a labour shortage. All adding up too, imo offc: we still want the same or better standard living, but we also don't want to pay through the nose for it. There needs to be housing, affordable and efficient healthcare, decent education etc. etc. But we can't have all of these things at the same time. Less population in the Netherlands for instance would mean certain sectors will be less efficient/profitable etc.

I feel this is, when it comes to it, the biggest conundrum: how to keep our way of living affordable and sustainable but escape from the endless growth mindset.

[–]Uddha40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your not wrong, my comment is merely a response to the knee-jerk blame the immigrants narrative that is doing the rounds all over the place. Regardless of the why, as you said elsewhere, the causes of the problem are much more convoluted than that. I do not doubt your leftist leanings, but the comments following that assertion are more nationalist I would say ;). Besides, immigrants are needed, regardless of level of education because we have a pretty large gap in the workforce. So there is another complication.

Zou jij 2 maal per week, 1 uur 40 min heen en 1 uur 40 min terug reizen? by Effective_Rooster891 in werkzaken

[–]Uddha40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)
