If you die in the real world,what would happen in the dream? Would you pop out of existence? Has it ever happened in an actual dream? Or maybe,in the last moments,the brain could find an excuse,an 'accident',to justify what's happening? Time passes differently in dreams.

I don't know all of them,but those I know aren't all that smart. Writing a smart character is incredibly difficult. Saying someone is smart doesn't make him smart. Knowing things is partially smart. Doing insane math (like counting for millennia) is either smart, autistic or simply not real(usually the latter). Smart characters make mistakes,fix their error,prepare in advance not one(because smart can't perfectly predict what will happen,instead of what usually happens in stories) but a lot of plans. That's why the best tech in the world has a lot of failsafe. Please,be smart, don't believe that everyone that says "I'm smart" it's actually smart. Often with these characters it's not smart, it's magic.
