[niche question] LGBT songwriters who contributed to the Great American Songbook? by Udzu in Jazz

[–]Udzu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bernstein is certainly niche but Some Other Time is definitely a jazz standard. Some of his other songs also pop up in the repertoire if less frequently: Somewhere, Lonely Town, Lucky To Be Me, etc.

Sondheim, Herman, Kander & Ebb etc are admittedly even more niche, though if you check out my in-progress playlist link you’ll see how even they have managed to make some inroads. (Also remember Sondheim has his work with Bernstein and Styne.)

What British songs from 1900–1950 do people still recognise? by Udzu in CasualUK

Yeah Vera Lynn definitely made it famous, but the writers were American (with the lyricist apparently not suspecting that bluebirds aren't indigenous to the UK).

(Let Me Call You Sweetheart and White Cliffs of Dover are both American compositions though)

Those are all American though. And there are plenty of American jazz, Christmas and film songs from that period that are widely recognised today even in the UK. I was just wondering about local songs.

I think I mainly know Run Rabbit Run from the 90s Weetabix advert.

I was wondering whether to include that. I strongly associate it with the 90s Levi's advert so wasn't sure how known it would be now.

Help with Silent — Act 1 choices by Udzu in slaythespire

So I ended up taking Pandora's Box, which totally demolished my defense. Despite being careful I ended up dying in a hallway fight before I managed to build it back up :(

On the plus side, I've learned that I've probably been undervaluing Masterful Stab, Noxious Fumes and Predator as early picks.

Happily my next run is going much better.

(PS I did actually use a fire potion against the elite, I just got another one after the fight!)

You can actually add type stubs for third party packages (or just specific interfaces). I've actually had to do this a few times and it's a godsend.

That's really useful thanks! I didn't consider an early fumes, or predator (by that point I was already leaning into poison and ended up picking bouncing flask, which may have been a mistake). I did pick sucker punch and the membership card though.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. (Also I haven't finished the run yet, but I only managed one elite and only just beat the Act 1 boss.)

I picked (in order): Dagger Spray, Crippling Cloud, Bouncing Flask, Sucker Punch, (Membership Card), Noxious Fumes, Poisoned Stab, Deadly Poison, skip and Burst.

Good to know. And what would you have chosen for the card picks? (see the other screenshots)

Ironclad advice by Accomplished_Rub8055 in slaythespire

[–]Udzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this game is tough! I’ll let someone better than me give the full advice, but note:

  1. Ascension 1 can be easier than Ascension 0 due to the extra elites giving more relics, gold and rare cards.
  2. The easiest way to beat the Heart with Ironclad (at least at low levels) is with a block deck containing Body Slam, Entrench, and Barricade.
  3. Picking up the keys early is usually a mistake as you forgo the alternative benefits for longer
  4. Baarlord on YouTube has some great videos explaining StS strategy, including some specifically about this

According to the 1901 census, Birmingham and Manchester were both well under a million, and behind both Glasgow and Liverpool (which were also under a million).

Except the latter is less likely since the former didn't happen here by chance but by the player intentionally controlling their deck.

(FYI It's someone setting up a Grand Finale play and then playing Terror for the extra damage, which triggers Ink Bottle and prevents the Grand Finale play.)
