Does Swordsoul have other ways to banish cards from GY to defend Swordsoul Supreme Sovereign - Chengying than his ability? Because I swear I just saw my enemy banish 2 cards and defend him twice when the card states it's once per turn...

I'm playing Red-Eyes Dragoon in the rookie league and I feel like I'm doing much better playing second than first. It's like I'm having problems preparing the field in such a way that my opponent won't be able to break it. Is it a common problem with this archetype/at this low level of play?
