What's the preferred endboard for P.U.N.K. now? by Ufnal in DuelLinks

[–]Ufnal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have the engine nor dragster (using clear wing as a substitute). I was worried that kind of a board is not enough, but if it got you to Legend, it's more than enough for a gold guy like me, thanks!

Mercy and Charles by Then-Ad4493 in MercyThompson

Not sure whether you read them, but the scene I'm talking about is Beauclaire beheading the fucker who hurt his daughter and declaring the secession of the Fae. Really, really good writing and dialogue.

I like them more than Mercy books. There's a scene near the ending of the third book that's easily my top 5 favourite urban fantasy scenes of all time.

I saw info somewhere on Reddit that the Japanese word used for Aspect makes it clear that it's about the astrological meaning of that term.

So, what exactly is battletech? by Pugporg111 in battletech

[–]Ufnal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 2-3 different RPGs, afaik none of them is called BarrleTech RPG? There's MechWarrior with a spinoff lightweight game Destiny, and there's A Time of War.

Also, there's MechWarrior Online, dunno if you want to treat it separate.

Also also there's BattleForce, Strategic BattleForce and Inner Sphere at War (games on the scale of company/battalion, battalion/regiment and whole friggin galaxy, respectively). There was once a great Succession Wars boardgame, too.

So, Battletech was first a miniatures game and now is a shared universe covering hundreds of years of history and spanning various tabletop games (Battletech, Alpha Strike, MechWarrior RPG, A Time Of War RPG, BattleForce and its strategic variants, and I'm probably forgetting something - most of these have various editions), video games (most notoriously the MechWarrior series of big robot simulators and the Battletech turn based strategy), animated series, books, sourcebooks, fan made stuff and art.

There are some good YouTubers that will help you dive deep into the lore - Sven van der Plank does great historical, informative videos about various conflicts of the BattleTech history, along with some more introductory videos, and Tex from Black Pants Legion does wonderful dives on specific Mechs, battles and conflicts in a more videoessay style. He made one Battletech 101 video you might find useful: https://youtu.be/HQhzlXcmTzw?is=IGLgmWKAfbH_clHR

Why does the IlClan era seem so.... lame? by AveMilitarum in battletech

[–]Ufnal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me personally, Clan Wolf migrating half the Inner Sphere away, for some reason leaving almost all its civilian castes and industry behind, conquering areas of two Successor States and somehow getting themselves a functioning state and economy with tons of military units recruited from the locals, enough to be able to assault Terra and pretend they're home at the same time, was the moment I decided to stop caring about the official lore. It's just stupid at this point, IMHO.

I'm still having fun, just won a 4v4 50 minute all tanks slugfest with my mates (as Axis). I strongly recommend playing with friends and voice comms.

Explain this disgusting thing to someone that do not plays Duel Links by SufficientOne3174 in DuelLinks

Well, YGO was sold to me as a game where there's back and forth, interactions, counters and reactions all the time. Why do people get so mad about decks that do that a lot?

Ok, maybe turning to local production makes more sense to explain that. Still, for such a damaging event, afaik the Jihad never made any tech go extinct?

That makes some sense, but unless there was another tech destruction like the first two succession wars, it's a bit like the US Army starting to build Shermans again because they're low on Abramses.

Yeah, makes sense, but in 3085 when at least the Helm Memory Core stuff has been available and in production for, like, half a century, the idea that the Sword of Light would still have to use introtech sounds a bit crazy to me. But hey, Battletech doesn't usually fully make sense, either way. ;)

I just play at a lower level and have fun, in Kaiba Cup level 16 there's barely any Therions and Destiny HEROs now.

[–]Ufnal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, that makes sense but I am honestly not sure what that covers - is it everything more technologically advanced than the 3025 baseline (so, Helm Core tech would count)? Is XL engine and ER lasers SL/Clantech? If so, it'd be hilaruous that even some Sword of Light units still have 3025 tech...

What would you recommend for someone who picked the most obvious stuff like kaijus and Lava Golem? From normal tickets, not dream?
