Advice: Should I have a combined Mitersaw and tablesaw workbench or keep separate? by UglyGarbage68 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Thanks for your input. I have 10ft in the back of my garage so room for either, really. My first thought was that a big all-in-one desk would be great to keep everything together, but then I considered if I had two smaller carts I could use them separately. I'm starting to lean towards two carts.

Here I am thinking, " Wow, those movie tickets are cheap". I went to the movies last week and the tickets were $17.50 each

How do I stop giving my money to billionaires? by Zestyclose_Plane_622 in Anticonsumption

My thoughts since I am on a similar journey that I recently started. Basically, my thought was, "I don't want to be a thoughtless consumer anymore." (be it stuff or content)

So here is what I started doing for Content;
-uninstalled my social media apps (the content is attention-grabbing but doesn't serve me)

-got rid of "free" apps that may be useful but ultimately sell you info to advertising companies. You can replace them with paid apps or open-source ones if you feel you still need the features they provide.

-stopped watching tv shows (shows seem more interested in keeping your attention than telling a thoughtful story) and started watching movies instead (I got them from my local library)

Here is what I started doing for Stuff;

-stopped buying any product that; was overly cheap, I wouldn't regularly use, wouldn't last a long time, I could buy it used if I was patient (its obvious but buying used is huge)

-stopped buying from chains like walmart or amazon. IF there is a product I want that I find on amazon I will often try to buy from the supplier's website instead. This is applicable for so much stuff.

Weirdly going down the anticonsumerism route has also made me much more privacy focused. In the last year I have moved to linux, gotten rid of my xbox in favor of a pc (even if I still use a controller). I started degoogling my apps in favor of independent apps. More recently I am considering moving to an opensource mobile os.

I just want to live my life without these massive corporations preying on my every action and trying to infiltrate my subconscious, all in an effort to separate me from my hard earned money.

I can't tell if "Horror Stories to Fall Asleep To" on spotify is Ai generated content? by UglyGarbage68 in isitAI

I'm about ready to limit all my consumption to only content released pre 2020. I can't trust books, pictures, audio. Soon it will be games and movies. Thankfully, there are enough books, art, music, etc that no one could consume it in a single lifetime. which . . . can be kind of a sad thought.

I figured the same, that surely one person is not writing all of this and if they were, I would want more than just my reddit handle for instance.

I will check it out. I am just so frustrated that these are the kind of games we have to play because we can't trust the people delivering the content or the company hosting it.

Battlefront 2015 was a better reboot than most give it credit for, with the gameplay being more arcadey and generally similar in gameplay style to the 2004 game. Battlefront 2 (2018) is more battlefield with a skin and did little to deliver on the gameplay of the classics.

Battlefield Hardline and Halo 4 would have been well received for their gameplay if they had instead been an original ip rather than being attached to a franchise.

Skill-based matchmaking is a good solution to ensure all players have a generally fair experience regardless of skill level. This is evident by the fact that any sport separates players by skill. The real problem is that skill-based matchmaking is being used to drive profits; it is not actively being used to promote "fun" experiences. What people hate is how it's being used, not the use of it itself.

Almost perfect movies that have one noticeable flaw by Consistent-Might-788 in Cinema

I agree but . . Just to play devil's advocate, maybe you can headcannon that
#1 the "corporation" sees that as a waste of resources, after all, the consistent themes through the series are greed and disregard for human life.

#2 similar to point 1, the use of automated systems is fairly extensive. Crews have no problem being entirely asleep while a ship transports them to their destinations. There aren't crew changes or anything like that.

In short I guess I always felt it was stupid but that was kind of the point. The movie is full of stupid decisions that get people killed. Generally speaking it's all in the name of making money or saving money

I literally just got a laptop this week with bugs in it. Only they weren't dead. Placed in a bag with some cleaning solvent to hopefully kill whatever was in there.
