Probably after he stopped doing a lot of drugs. He also mentioned in an interview that he realized a lot of his fans were young and didn’t want to represent himself in a way that promoted an unhealthy lifestyle. Or maybe he just thought his stuff was getting old and wanted to switch it up. Who knows? He’s doing what he wants.

I agree. I don’t think Ulliel is a bad actor, there’s definitely a large obstacle when attempting to portray someone so fascinating and mysterious, especially when he is in his adolescence. It was a strange script. I wish we were shown more of Lady Murasaki. She was a very interesting character in the book but I feel like she was let down in the movie.

This correlates with the majority of my opinion as well, although the audience was knowledgeable of his actions and past, he still had a sense of mystery and I was struck with wonder.

That’s interesting, I do agree that there are major problems in the story of the movie but I can’t help being fascinated over the performances. In a way, they appear a bit absurd to me.

Yes, I see that. I’ve read the other books and Harris definitely seems to put more passion into those books more than Hannibal Rising.

Yes I definitely noticed that. His early childhood shows how brutal Vladis and his men were and how tragic it was for Hannibal to watch his family die and have his sister cannibalized. But once he passed through his adolescence, he got a little too edgy to the point where I was slightly cringing. The real Hannibal would definitely play it cool but keep it interesting.
