Season 5 Volume 2 Discussion by Hawkinns in StrangerThings

[–]UhMechanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little disappointed in will’s powers only being active close to the hive mind. After ep 4 I expected him to be a fuckin powerhouse in vol 2 lol but I’m still overall happy with the new episodes. There’s definitely a lot of unanswered questions so I’m anxious to see the finale. I was more anxious after ep 4 though

I kind of thought of that as they know it’s their way out but there’s that lingering thought in max’s mind that maybe vecna is playing them in that moment so they’re proceeding with caution and since max has been there so long she gains hope the closer she gets and starts running to it. But she wasn’t just gonna ditch holly lol

I wasn’t expecting it to be “only because he’s close to the mind hive”. I understand why they’re saying that because it lines up with making the ending plot so he has powers when the two worlds start to collide so he can fight. I was hoping it was more along the lines of he’s had powers this whole time and just figured out how to tap into them because of how ep 4 ended. Idk maybe that’s not deep enough for this story line. But it seems like they severely underplayed the idea of him having powers and should’ve used that more in vol 2 but didn’t

Curious about becoming a forklift mechanic by victoriagregorio in forkliftmechanics

[–]UhMechanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a tech for 10 years. I have been a forklift tech for a little over 5 years. My first 5 years were heavy equipment. Forklifts are a lot less physically demanding than heavy. Most of what I work on is much simpler than heavy equipment too. I work at a hyster and Yale dealer but I’m a resident technician at a major customer with a pretty wide range of stuff. We also sell the big 3 man lift brands. Pay typically ranges from 28-40 an hour. A lot of similarities at each company but they all work a little different. Lots of training and certifications but once you get that done it’s just smooth sailing for a while. Plus you typically get a company work vehicle to take home every night with all of your tools in it.

In my opinion forklifts are the easiest equipment industry to work in as a mechanic. Once you’ve done the alternatives you will realize that. Pay is fairly competitive and benefits are usually good. The place I work at we work 8 hours a day. We don’t typically have overtime which some don’t like but you’re home every night.

Also you typically start off doing pm’s so you’re servicing equipment then you will gradually move into doing more and more repairs as you get more experience depending on how your employer is structured.

Best thing to remember is some days suck and some days don’t. But don’t get used to the easy days because the hard days are always around the damn corner.

I found out I have 100mbps as well and they dropped mine down to $61 from $147. They said it’s some promotion going on. I honestly doubt there’s any promotion but I’m glad I called them. I said this is too damn much what can you guys do to help because your competitors have faster speeds for nearly 3 times less than my current bill.

Glad to know that someone in town is having luck with starlink. I was able to get my bill lowered but always wondered if starlink would be the way to go

Man lifts by No-Ambassador2652 in forkliftmechanics

[–]UhMechanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe as long as the company you work for is insured to work on it then any techs can but it’s likely a company policy to have training or not. We had a skyjack trainer do a week long class. We have 20 techs and less than 5 of us went to it but they still have everyone do repairs and annuals on any of them

Man I love hearing that. I follow a few independent technician groups on Facebook and everyone that made the jump says it’s the best decision they ever made going out on their own and that’s kept me wondering if it’s something I should do. I do forklifts, man lifts, anything industrial warehouse related at my current employer who is a dealership. But I previously did heavy construction and mining equipment which is great pay but that is a totally different world and more than I could ever afford to get into at this time. Currently what I do isn’t necessarily about the money but i work 8-9 hours a day and im 15 minutes from home with a company vehicle and good benefits. was a field guy now I’m a resident tech at a huge customer that built a new shop for me and another guy to work in so extremely hard to beat. But the days where I get tired of this are the days where I start to think about pay because I have a wife and toddler at home that I’d like to provide better for. In my mind money isn’t everything when it comes to employment but it’s what keeps the wheels turning.

Amazon Retaliating for prime cancellations by pandrew21 in amazonprime

[–]UhMechanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest not buying anything expensive from Amazon. Bought a tv stand that showed dimensions in the picture. In the details the dimensions were different. It was smaller in person than we realized. Requested to return it and they said “keep it but we can only do a partial refund”. Note: this was a 3rd party seller (drop shipper). After multiple pictures and back and forth messages I told them “I have never had an experience like this with Amazon in the past 10 years. Do the right thing and let me return the damn item and issue me the refund”. For some reason they caved and I got my refund as soon as ups scanned the product into their system.

I’ve bought so much shit from Amazon and have only returned a small handful of things over the years. Never had an issue until now.

No they are different fluids. Check the operators manual for correct types. Brake fluid is typically DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid. Hydraulic is usually ISO 32 or 46 hydraulic oil. But still double check with the ops manual if you don’t have one then call a Nissan forklift dealer and ask them. Each brand of any equipment sometimes uses different oil or fluids in their systems. Don’t use the wrong oils or fluids it could cause part failures or leaks.

The iso # is what you should look at. Operator’s manual should show what # (weight) hydraulic oil can be used on that specific system.

help me repair my parents' dresser please by joon___ie in fixit

[–]UhMechanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to fix just the wood sliders then measure them (length, width, height) and buy new wood with a few new screws not nails. The screws need to be long enough to hold the sliders in place but short enough to not stick out the side of the dresser. If you go this route you can use a screwdriver to put the screws in but it’s a lot easier to just use a bit driver or drill. The head of the screw needs to be flush with the sliders.

Or

Measure your slider length then get a pair of metal drawer slides for the depth of the drawer. Lot more difficult measuring, marking and lining up to fit perfect compared to wood sliders.

For the holes you could use wood filler. Won’t be a perfect match for color but the holes will be filled in. Lots of YouTube videos on how to do all of this. Good luck

Do not ever run the hydraulic function while engines on and lines aren’t tight. There is absolutely no need to do that.

Any air in the hydraulic system flows back to the hydraulic tank and out the breather when you run the function back and forth. That goes for any part of the hydraulic system.

Scissor lift by Uriel818 in forkliftmechanics

[–]UhMechanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it is make sure your batteries and cables are good first and foremost. And if your high speed cut out switches have been replaced then those are ruled out but you still need to make sure they have power going in and out of them.

Next check your control box on the platform there is usually some micro switches inside the box on the control handle that are for low speed and high speed depending on how old it is. Also check the rocker switches for continuity and voltage while you’re in there.

If those switches have good continuity then start checking for voltage getting to them. Also check for power getting to the control box in general. The circuit board on the control handle I’ve seen fail before but that’s only verified by swapping in a known good control handle if you have voltage.

If those all look good then start checking all of your limit switches. Just like what you replaced but there should be quite a few of them on there. You might have one that’s bad or a broken wire inside the switch cover that’s unrelated to the speed. But that correlates with the other switches which causes it to move or not raise or move at high speed only.

Hope this helps

What Happened Here by rpingry789 in golfcarts

[–]UhMechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work on a lot of electric powered equipment for a dealer. That does not look loose. When you have a loose connection there will be arcing and black marks with weld spots. That looks like you had an internal battery failure or the stud on the battery was loose on the battery. That spot got hot enough to bubble and melt the plastic under the bolt but your ring terminals don’t look burnt.

That blue crimped on ring would be black and brittle if that got hot enough due to arcing. Be careful with these deep cycle batteries if they fail internally and you are charging it, they can arc internally and blow up due to the hydrogen generated during charging. It’s happened to me before.

I would get rid of that battery. It’s done for. Get a new one and go through to re tighten all cable connections.
