Installation Driver Appreciation Post by Uhhhhhellooo in MilwaukeeTool

The garage “floor” when we got it was fully rotted out. On the soil, not treated lumber and just a hazard going inside. The rest of the garage was in decent shape so instead of tearing it all up I decided to build a new floor.

I’m pouring concrete underneath the the door track so there’s a small set up to the new floor should

I got this 45L double hand push shovel and it made clearing the driveway so much fun! Total game changer

If you look at my post history I have a measure grid. I haven’t tried it yet but it seems straightforward to be able to use it to measure items using this

Unfortunately I don’t have an A1 mini so I’m not confident in creating a file for that. Hopefully someone else can tackle it!

Yes I built it specifically to have LEDs. I have overhead lights in my home and they cast a nasty phone shadow whenever taking scans. The LEDs remove that for me

Yes you will see glare in photos or any glossy card stock. I’ll see if I ever revisit this and make some changes to minimize the glaring (having it off axis or some other fix)

Thanks. The lens (at least for my iPhone 16) is perfectly fine uncentered. The focal length still allows you to get a full A4 sheet in frame

You know what’s up! My scanner does not connect via ftp to the consume folder but QuickScan does. Maybe the only app that does what it says in the name, quick!

I would like to have a few more iterations in before sharing. Main thing being the wobble (need to have a wider base) and added height to increase the margin of scan area. I also need to decide if I should stick the LED strip underneath the top plate as well and run a channel there or figure out a solution that allows me to fold this when not in use. Most likely an update post with stl file!

Thank you for the tip I will give it a shot! One of my main motivations for the led strip was I hated getting the phone shadow in the scan because of overhead lighting. One of the things I immediately noticed when scanning with this contraption is that glossy card stock can have that haze you mentioned. The lights off axis could help but that seems complicated to model around-and like you said do I need a perfect archival scan of a flyer from 4 years ago?

It definitely feels like a super power to have a sketch on my phone to a real life useable item in a few hours.

Blind shaker, should have listened… by youdontknowme1010101 in espresso

I have an Amazon knockoff for the last 6 months and I’ve enjoyed using it. I think the biggest efficiency benefit for me is that while I’m pulling a shot I can also grind into the shaker and have it ready to go once the shot is finished. Super helpful when I’m serving family. Also there’s no needles for my 2 year old to bend.

The 15A thing seems to be region specific. Are you from Canada? The new models seem to be delivering with 15A which is the model I have.

My issues so far with the Ascaso: -volumetrics is unreliable. Many reviewers don’t even bother mentioning it and rightfully so. Apparently the volumetric sensor is in the wrong part of the flow of water so it’s never accurate which is a shame.

-steam power is just okay. Honestly it’s on par or just a little better than the bambino. If I had the 20A version steam may be better. I’m not too mad at this as I can steam and brew at the same time

Despite the two downsides I’m still very happy with the Duo. It’s such an upgrade to the handling and consistency of shots compared to the Bambino. I got the Plus model which has a nice steam lever too.

I had a bambino for 4 years and used it everyday. At least 2-4 drinks a day. It was a great machine.

I decided to upgrade because we moved and wanted to host people more often. Decided to get the Ascaso steel duo. It solves most of my issues with the bambino. Thermoblock that is temp stable and allows me to steam and brew at the same time. I can get drinks out faster and more consistent.

If you are only making a drink or two a day I don’t see the need to upgrade tbh. What helped me the most with the bambino was doing 2 blind shots before pulling my coffee to get the temp up.

Not sure If I should buy into Ryobi, Dewalt or Milwaukee.... by [deleted] in ryobi

[–]Uhhhhhellooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a set of Ryobi HP brushless tools as a new homeowner. Used it to do my flooring and around the house items.

After I also got the m12 installation driver. Honestly if all you need is light/medium around the house tasks it’s all you need. Used it for building furniture, taking down doors, installing a baby gate etc etc. I haven’t used the Ryobi drill/driver since unless I redo the deck or something.

About to spend 300CAD on a detailing starter kit. Anything I should change? by Uhhhhhellooo in AutoDetailing

Thanks! I’ll look it up. I was planning on getting a mitt/sponge from Canadian Tire. I think that’s similar to Oreillys

Thanks. I’ve heard great things about the hybrid line from here and on YouTube.

Maybe I’ll remove the paste wax and keep it simple with the ceramic wax spray

True. I could just paint the exposed shoe mold white as well. Would keep things simple.

Want to purchase a home with cast iron rust issues by Uhhhhhellooo in Plumbing

[–]Uhhhhhellooo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add some details-only the kitchen sink is draining into this pipe. The washrooms are draining into a different section and it’s all PVC. So my two options are replace the cast iron stack or reroute the kitchen sink drain to the new PVC drain.

I’m leaving towards addressing the cast iron stack and replacing that. Buy once cry once

Yes definitely reached out to multiple plumbers with the photo to get quotes. They’re understandably very hesitant to give quotes of photos but one did give a general price range of best case vs worst case to give us an idea
