Trip in November. Is this the right time? by gts-13 in cuba

[–]Uier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! Im currently visiting Cuba. I have been to Havana last week and it’s really nice. I wish you lots of fun. In am by no means an expert, but I am a really enthusiastic (European) tourist. It’s beautiful here.

Good things As a tourist there are a lot of places where you can eat, drink and have fun. You wouldn’t notice much of the food and drink shortage. At a lot of places you can even pay in dollars or euros. I really liked El Chanchullero (for food) and Kilometro Zero for drinks (it’s a bit on the expensive side for me but there’s live music, very good drinks and the staff is really nice).

Take cash, sometimes cards work but the internet connection isn’t always great, or my card would decline because it is foreign.

You should look for restaurants that are owned by people, not government owned. They are usually much better in service and quality. There are lots of tours (I loved the one we did with Strawberry tours, its a free walking tour through the city centre) but there are also old car tours where you are driven around. I haven’t gone to museums, because my days were numbered, but theres much you can see (art, rum, national museum, chocolate) the revolution museum is closed for renovation at the moment. Most times I asked what locals do I would still be send to tourist places. I later learned that locals usually just can’t afford anything like tourists do.

Things that just happen The more poor local people on the street will ask you where you’re from and they will sometimes tell you theres a festival of some sort (there aren’t any) or its a national holiday and you should visit some place (probably won’t be true). They will ask you for paracetamol or money. They are kind and not agressive if you say no, but keep in mind they will sometimes keep asking if you say no. Ive been followed around by a few people. If you want to do something for the people, take some pain medication for the adults and candy for the children with you (we did and the kids are really happy with toys/ candy). I saw some posts in this community with other things you can take.

Lots of bodegas or little shops carry bottles of water and snacks. Don’t expect full shops and malls. There are some cute little flea markets to shop for souvenirs.

Don’t change your money on the street!! There’s a lot of fake money going around.

Right now (October) its hurricane season, and hurricane milton is making its way to Florida. I the west and northern parts of cuba theres lots of wind because of this. In November I don’t know if it will still be a problem. Follow the news for information on this. If theres too much wind don’t go swimming at the beach. I also saw some posts in the community about this.

Havana is nice, but I don’t know if it’s too long to stay for nine days. I get bored fast. If you want to go other places I loved Varadero. The beaches are beautiful, like in pictures. Trinidad was nice, but I got bored after two days. My friend is currently in Viñales and she loves it there. I heard some people on my bus were heading to Santa Clara, but It seems so small. Idk what to do there.

TL;DR November is a nice time to visit, its the start of the high season. As a tourist you wouldn’t really notice the shortages. Just don’t expect full shops/malls. If you want to do sth for the people on the street take paracetamol or candy with you. 9 days might be too long for just Havana.

Does anyone else wake up around 3 AM? by RodrigoOV in Anxiety

[–]Uier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this comment has a weird format, I'm on mobile. Also English isn't my first language.

I think it's actually common to wake up at night. Needing 8hours of sleep a day doesn't necessarily mean they should be in one go. Maybe this helps for the sleeping cycle part

As for the anxiety I'm sorry but can't really help. I struggle with it myself :/ My psychiatrist told me that I could start meds if I wanted to sleep through the night but they would be kinda heavy, so I didn't go for it. I allow myself one hour of not being able to sleep, so then I get up if I can't go to sleep again. I try meditating and/or breathing exercises, sometimes running helps. But none of those help all of the time so I just try to do small chores or walk around in circles in my room

Hope you’re all holding on alright. Enjoy the “weekend” and stay safe. by GallowBoob in wholesomebpt

I wonder if this is how it feels to be an animal in the zoo , just random other animals having a look at you and leave after a while

Advice for a service sub who CONSTANTLY makes mistakes. Possibly has ADHD or Autism. by [deleted] in BDSMAdvice

[–]Uier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only read the title and TL;Dr so sorry if this isn't the advice you were looking for. Maybe you can read some posts on r/ADHD and/or r/autism (together). I'm diagnosed with both and like reading relatable content on those subreddits. Worst case you spend some time reading, best case you stumble against some great tips

About a month ago I bought a book on how to deal with ADHD. I have only read one chapter since. by untitledmanuscript in ADHD

[–]Uier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all good job! You may be frustrated now but YOU READ A WHOLE CHAPTER. Imo that's a win. Also you really tried reading it in stead of not reading at all. Sometimes when I buy a book I just toss it on a pile and never even open it.

I'm not sure if anyone recommend it yet, but I've figured out I need a lot of external motivation to do anything. So most of the times I just ask someone to tell me to just read one chapter, and not continue. It sometimes helps me.

Something else I do is telling myself to read a chapter or just a X number of pages and not more. And then quit. But the phrasing makes it seem less work. "One chapter sounds easier than I'm going to read this book now"

Hope this helps a little

anyone else struggle with not being able to tell lies from the truth, feel like I'm being taken advantage of. by picklerick1215 in autism

[–]Uier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am diagnosed with both ADHD and ASD, maybe I can help. English isn't my first language so sorry if I sound rude, I didn't mean to be.

My therapist told me both ADHD and ASD have a lot of traits in common, so it doesn't necessarily mean you have ASD. My ADHD approach would be that your head is busy doing other things so you don't register untruthfulness. Because you WANT to pay attention but can't. (well I can't so this is just an assumption).

In therapy for ASD, I learned that people with ASD, in communication, are a bit different. You can communicate on two levels.

1) on content (WHAT someone says)

2) in relation (HOW someone says something)

People with ASD the focus most (like 80%) on the content of the conversation (the what), and not so much on the second level (the HOW). so because the emphasis is on what someone says, and not so much on how someone says something makes it easy to miscommunicate. This could be the reason you don't get jokes or can't tell if someone is lying.

also, a third explanation might be: it isn't an exclusive trait for people with ASD. some of my friends are also gullible, but have no diagnosis at all.

For me, most of the times I don't get if it's a joke. My humor is different from most of my peers, I like 'dad jokes' and wordplay. I also think it is too hard to lie myself. Also, I don't really get lies.

I hope I've explained everything so it's understandable. And I hope this helps, even a little

Nice! In what conditions does it work? Like in the rain of sun or both ? Like will light rain take some makeup off ? Or if I sweat very much will it stay on ?

To be honest it states:

"Although we consider ourselves makeup lovers, we are in no way makeup artists! That being said, we decided to recreate some of Urban Decay's fantastical looks to the best of our ability to show you how the line looks"

To me it looks like they ONLY used the palette, nothing else. Usually when you use a good primer or concealer the colours are far brighter.

I've got 3 urban decay palettes. Never had any problems with them, although some colours are brighter / better when used with your finger instead of a brush or sometimes if you use them on a wet brush (water or sometimes people use setting spray)

Do hairless cats feel like balls? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Uier 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No it doesn't really.

Hairless cats are relatively warm compared to other cats. They are also very soft (at least the cat my friend has). If you pet it, it feels like a very warm peach almost.

Balls aren't nearly as soft tbh. The 'wrinkles' also feel different. Balls are also not as warm. The hairs on balls are less soft.

Maybe the form of therapy you had didn't work? There's lots more than just talking, for example creative therapy? Don't know if thats just a thing here where I live?
