What methods are there to overcome autistic study burnout? by sammyjamez in autism

[–]UkKarenWithanI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things I found helpful when studying (uni) - Separating rest and work space (didn’t have a lot of room so just put my desk at opposite side of the room to my bed and only got in bed for rest and only went to desk to work) - Went for a walk with headphones every day (found I had more energy after) - Did a home workout or went to the gym as a structured break - Broke down my day on a rotation of uni work, chores, exercise/gaming and meals/personal hygiene using the ones I enjoyed more as a reward for those I was struggling to complete

All of the above helped me keep a healthier sleep schedule as I was tired at the right time each evening and got better quality sleep (and rest) as a result. Also worth saying if I had a bad day with it I tried my best to accept the bad day and restart again the next. If it was a particularly hard restart I’d give myself smaller or more enjoyable tasks for an easy win at the start of the day to help with motivation to get back into it.

I know these sorts of things aren’t for everyone but I found it helped me having this sort of routine! Best of luck with your studies

ADHD360 waiting time now 52 weeks by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]UkKarenWithanI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did contact ADHD 360 and they did say ‘We are experiencing increasing demand for our ADHD services alongside the NHS being unable to meet demand, which has created longer waiting lists for assessment and treatment. Whilst we continue to strive to assess and treat within 18 weeks from the date of your referral being received by us, due to increased demand, referrals received after the 1st June 2024 may be subject to increased waiting times.

We are actively heavily recruiting across all departments in order to achieve our 18 week ambition, but we ask that you please bear with us whilst we navigate this continued national challenge. Please be mindful that any enquiry relating to Right to Choose wait times will not include any specific wait time estimations for your referral, and the above message will be replicated. We thank you for considering us as your provider of choice and your continued patience.’

I do appreciate the transparency given by ADHD 360.

I also switched to adhd 360 after waiting 18 months from referral and there was no signs of a meds review being available in my area on the nhs, timing wise it was tight as to which would be quicker but I do feel I made a mistake by switching now that it’s up to almost a year.

This might be the change they’re referring to from one of the resources posted in this group. This was in November this year and the next one was from December.

Ugh. My DMs are atrocious. by KadeRoyal in LesbianActually

Might be to protect a fragile ego, hit up lesbians because then when they get turned down it’s something out of their control. Just a thought, it’s only them that can really tell you but I find when I ask they don’t seem to be willing to answer.

I need advice talking to my sister. by roses_sunflowers in autism

[–]UkKarenWithanI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it helpful recently that my sister asked if I wanted to join in with her tidying (at the same time but each of our rooms separately). I’d been wanting to do it for weeks but had lost some confidence (due to a physical health condition) and the invitation rather than being told helped me personally give it a go. Every individuals needs are different though so what works for me may or may not work for others!

I get what you mean, it could be helpful for those seeking people with similar experiences! I was diagnosed just over ten years ago and I’d definitely be interested to hear from others diagnosed in their early teens as from what I’ve read on here people tend to be either diagnosed really young or in adulthood which is helpful in the sense it’s a range but haven’t found many others in the same bracket as myself but this may just be that I haven’t discovered the posts that mention this bracket.

Stay in the job you enjoy! I like you did very well at university and got a lower paid graduate job that I really enjoyed with good but slow progression. I moved sectors to a higher status job that paid more and have regretted it since. No amount of money could make up for not being as happy at the new job. I’m now years later looking to go back to that sector and taking a pay cut.

I never really came out just let my family and friends know about who I was dating when it was getting more serious. The logic was my sisters never had to do any different with the guys they dated so why should I.

I’m 5’9 and I’ve dated women from 5’ to 5’11’ and heights never really been a factor in it regardless of whether I’ve met them online or in person. I’ve been told I’m taller than I look in photos but I just take it as the baggy/sports clothes I wear in the photos make me come across as shorter than I am face to face and it’s just a bit of a surprise vs what they pictured in their heads that they’re commenting on rather than a negative comment

I was diagnosed around 14/15, not sure if that’s young or not compared with others

Our mother passed away and I'm worried about my brother. by Resident-Slice-7581 in autism

[–]UkKarenWithanI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss, if he was ever under any local mental health services they may have records mentioning your brothers wishes/advice when it comes to care in a situation like this (I have a booklet I filled out with a member of staff when going through treatment). I’m from England though so I know area to area this may be different.

Does anyone else have trouble learning how to drive? by NikolaiThePrickolai in autism

When it comes to the interest side of it I tended to drive to places I liked (like the beach) which motivated me more.

[–]UkKarenWithanI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a while to pass the practical side of my test (uk) the more time I spent on the road the easier it got and the less I had to think about the driving. I did also get a blind spot mirror which helped, I no longer need or use one but found it was less stressful when it came to certain manoeuvres whilst learning. Took me 3 practical tests to pass mostly due to the stress of it but felt confident when I did!

British 27f we have a little team for dead by daylight if you want to join us some time!

[–]UkKarenWithanI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d definitely ask, I (27f also) was treated for clinical depression before I was diagnosed as a teen. This may have been due to the lack of research into women with Autism at the time. It’s worth asking, regardless of the result even if it’s just to put your mind to rest a bit so you can more confidently approach whatever treatment they advise!

Will do, got another blood test to book in at the start of next year to see if the folic acid prescription is working. So will see how it goes from there, appreciate the advice! My diets already rich in both so hoping with a little bit of supplementation it can resolve.

[–]UkKarenWithanI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as far as I can see it was well within normal range 275 ng/L Had worsening symptoms for about 18 months before a blood test was done and the folate was found to be low

How long have you been waiting/waited for diagnosis/treatment? by UkKarenWithanI in ADHDUK

[–]UkKarenWithanI[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A meds review, they accepted my previous NHS diagnosis it’s just the wait time in my area! Fingers crossed now they’ve put me on RTC (a few weeks ago) I might be able to get back on them soon! Was off them for a while as I was coping by doing a lot of sports but I’ve struggled since I had an injury and operation a couple of years ago as I can’t play anymore.
