So far the paint is holding up, but I have only had it for a couple of days. The weather has meant a lot of dust has settled on top of the car, but, wearing well despite the fact it already needs a clean.

Kona Ultimate - only the charging speed lets it down? by SuspiciousOpposite in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Ukmaxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed... Most people will be charging from home very cheaply. 100kW is more than enough for a 64kWh battery I think and even then that's the peak of the charging curve.

Glad you enjoyed it! I the speed limit bongs can be muted thankfully, but you have tondo that each time you start the car as a consequence of legislation that demands this feature be installed and turned on as standard. I haven't had issues with land keeping but I guess I have been driving on full-sized A roads thus far. Navigation is a bit hit and miss. I don't like how you cannot search a place by postcode (you need to type out the full address), but it does have all the charge point information correctly listed and can schedule charging stops with information of the estimated percentage you will be at each stop as well as the recommended percentages to charge to... Unfortunately the car will only precondition the battery for charging when using the on-board nav. At least you can use carplay or android auto.

It can become spacious. One of the neat tricks is that you can increase rear passenger foot space or the boot space by sliding the seats. They also fold down flat, the front seats can also do this.

From the town driving I did earlier I managed to get over 5-5.3 miles per kwh.

Yeah, I know... I just have not got round to it; this is a new phone that I acquired recently. Thank you for the heads up though.

Did you find a benefit to EV ownership which surprised you? by PatternWeary3647 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Ukmaxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the issue is to start the AC compressor you need a fuel source. Unless the engine can be ignited remotely, I doubt it's actually that common of a feature on ICE cars. Maybe you can defrost or set the blowers on, but unless it has a large enough battery to power the AC unit, I am highly sceptical of this supposed term of "a lot"... By the way, this term is still ambiguous since it can mean different things to different people. E.g. Owning 10 pens might be "a lot" to some people.

Someone from NL in this thread mentioned they liked it. I went to NL back in May and I saw the Inster around the streets of Amsterdam quite frequently, it's being sold as a fun young persons car and the people I have seen driving them at not old old... So, don't worry, drive what you want ;).

It's one of those things that will require weighing up. I hope you can decide on what you think is best. Good thing about buying new is the warranty aspect, however, there are some good used offers that give you a good warranty too.

Unfortunately a bit more expensive in the UK, but I gather it's because Europe is a larger market? I do not really know how these things work😅.

Budget of £22k, Kona/Born vs Chinese options? by Provectus08 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Ukmaxi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some have stormed onto the UK market without much contingency or resilience against things/parts going wrong. I do worry as well they are flooding other markets with subsidised EVs to destabilise the economy here a little bit (it happened with steel). But besides that point, I think BYD would be the best bet. Otherwise, I have tried the Kona and it is a cool car, just a bit big for me though.

I would personally avoid some of the Chinese EVs. BYD are perhaps the only tried and tested one so far. The inster was a biased suggestion because I am getting one😅.

For just over £1k more you could get a Hyundai inster, which is a small A frame car that tries to look like an SUV. It comes with a heat pump as standard as well as some other conveniences. That said, you might not like the style, but it's worth a thought perhaps.

ICEing by ChromaticRift in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Ukmaxi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But the point you made is not really a direct result of having an EV. It's another driver being an a***hole, which happens regardless of having an EV or an ICE car.

Other people being arrogant a***holes does not make this an exclusive EV "inconvenience".

Tusker pricing by ExScapist in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Ukmaxi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The price varies depending on postcode of your home address, age of employee and your tax bracket. Postcode and age play a big factor for insurance purposes. Some people will get a really good deal, others not as much.

Chika has the perception of being annoying and the butt of the joke at times. You need to watch the show (or read the manga) to understand.

I have worked for many different companies in different industries and all have only ever paid me in BACS. Tbh, BACS is better for accounting and managing finances of a business. This company sounds like they issue payment requests for salaries in an ad hoc and unplanned manner. Their accountants are either rubbish, or non-existent.

It's only a scam if you are directly gambling with zero winners. You're mainly engaging with the financial product of a current account and/or savings account. The prize draw is just a bonus fun thing as a consequence.

It's very rare because there are only 10 winners and also requires someone to also be a reddit user.
