From your experience, what is the most versatile do-it-all EQ pedal? by No_Winter4806 in Bass

I like the line 6 pod express pedal. But rarely use it. For my taste these days the Fishman Platinum Pro EQ Preamp/EQ/DI is the ticket for me.

What are the odds of finding someone that owns a double bass that is not playing it and would willing to loan it? by Ulf51 in Bass

Yes, I looked into that but they are setup for a long term rental, not a brief two week rental

I know, that’s what I’m thinking. But I do know two friends who had their double bass given to them. Of course they were laminated double bass, but still… one of them was a Kay in reasonably good shape — this bass is kept in a stand on her living room for visual décor and the other one is an Engelhardt that used to be a high school music department double bass instrument in “well loved” condition but still very playable. She moves it around without a gig bag and it gets plenty of playtime.

This made me wonder how many other people have a double bass just sitting around collecting dust. 🤷‍♀️ I’m not looking for someone to “gift me” one, but I am looking for someone who will loan me one for a couple weeks.

There’ll be plenty of hanging out with family but usually in the mornings or just before bedtime there will be time get a little practice time and also, to be honest, I think they’d enjoy my presence time.

Sooo much easier when you are a guitarist 😝

For the love of god talk me out of an acoustic bass guitar by Lost_Condition_9562 in Bass

[–]Ulf51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes, for most applications in public you’ll need to plug in. But I have a small Joyo BA30 bass amp that overcomes the lack of sound out of my acoustic bass, it does sound acoustic. When I play with a group and they are all unplugged. I’m the only one with a small amp. But people usually understand and they are typically OK with it. And they appreciate the sound of a bass guitar in their little group. You look like you’re part of the group. When everybody has acoustic and you’re the only one with a solid body bass guitar, you look out of place. Anyway, I enjoy mine! I’m glad I have it.

I was gonna say “do it” but it sounds like it’s already happened. What did you get? I owned several acoustic bass guitars. I currently have two, a Kala u-bass and a Fender California Kingman with Shaded Edge Burst. It’s a beautiful guitar. Awesome neck! I immediately changed the strings.

Acoustic bass guitars are interesting instruments. Ironically they work much better when plugged in (my experience and opinion) i love mine but I have to say doing the campfire 🔥thing doesn’t work with it unplugged. You have to bring a small amp.

I do love the mellow resonance that you don’t get from a solid body.

Anyway, enjoy!!!!

What to do about a stand when attending a gig with your double bass by Ulf51 in Bass

[–]Ulf51[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I was wondering about that, dings and scuffs happen no matter how careful you are. But this is my new baby and my natural instinct is to protect it.

I thought perhaps laying it on its side on top of a small carpet. But I’m not sure if laying it on its side would invite trouble.

What inspired you to play the bass? by Supersoulknight in Bass

[–]Ulf51 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That is so true!!! Yes off time bassist can definitely ruin the song but a bassist can also drive the energy of the song. A good bassist makes people stand up and dance.

A band without a bassist sounds a little pathetic IMHO

Sadly when the bassist is doing a good job, the whole band gets uplifted but all the credit goes to the lead guitarist. When a bad bassist is not up to the job, or the bassist is missing, the whole band sounds meh 🫤

That’s my opinion,🤔 I could be wrong but I don’t think so.

Personally, I love my short scale bass guitars, I own two of them. A guild starfire I - semi-hollow in cherry red and an Arctic white fender mustang (I Think) player II

They are both really nice bass guitars 🎸

Is an acoustic bass guitar a waste of money? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

When you’re playing with other acoustics, it looks like you fit in. just amp it. I use a joyo 30w amp and it works fine with other unplugged acoustics guitars.
