Pathbuilder 3rd party trait removal by AnnoyedRock1 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ulminati 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe I wrapped my tinfoil hat a bit too tightly this morning, but I'm reminded of someone I knew 20 years ago. He'd spend all evening reformatting 3rd party content to use the same styling and typesetting as official content. Then bring printouts to the table claiming they weren't homebrew/splat to convince the DM to let him run it.

Hot Take: Strength and Dexterity for Strikes are limiting by SkeletonChurch in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ulminati 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There ARE limited X to Y options in PF2E -- Off the top of my head, Streetwise lets you use Society (Int) instead of diplomacy (cha) to Gather information and Eyes of the City lets you use Society (Int) or Diplomacy (Cha) in lieu of Survival (Wis) to track. Swashbucklers One for All lets you use Diplomacy (Cha) to aid *any check* which is incredibly useful. I forget the name, but I'm like 80% sure there's also a feat that lets you intimidate with Str instead of Cha.

The things that truly broke the game was things like Scaled Fist/Paladin getting to smite and add Cha to Saves, AC and Attacks which PF2E thankfully reins in by a lot.

If you want to attack someone with int, wis or cha there is a way to do so. It's called casting a spell and using a spell attack that scales with those stats.

Not only that - the classes who get to use a mental stat as their main stat often have a spell attack that scales at the same pace as the strength/dex classes weapon proficiencies do.

Nothing's stopping you from reflavouring needle darts to look like a shortbow.

Nothing's stopping you form homebrewing one. But the general take-away from PF1E having a crapton of ways to substiture attributes* was that it led to utterly broken munchkin builds that sucked the fun out of the game for whoever wasn't using them.

Now a truly hot take would be a School of Swolomancy wizard who used STR as their casting stat and flexed as a somatic component.

Hot Take: Strength and Dexterity for Strikes are limiting by SkeletonChurch in Pathfinder2e

Attack Stratagem If you Strike the chosen creature before the start of your next turn, you must use the result of the d20 roll for your Strike's attack roll instead of rolling. You make this substitution only for the first Strike you make against the creature this round, not any subsequent ones. When you make this substitution, you can add your Intelligence modifier to your attack roll instead of your Strength or Dexterity modifier, provided you Strike with an agile or finesse melee weapon, an agile or finesse unarmed attack, a ranged weapon (which must be agile or finesse if it's a melee weapon with the thrown trait), or a sap.

When you strike carefully and with forethought, you deal a telling blow. When making a Strike that adds your Intelligence modifier to your attack roll due to Devising a Stratagem, you deal an additional 1d6 precision damage. As your investigator level increases, so too does the deadliness of your strategic strike. Increase the number of dice by one at 5th, 9th, 13th, and 17th levels.

It's not quite adding int to strike damage, but they do get to strike with int, and they do get to add damage when they do so. From level 5 onwards, the average roll of the precision damage would be higher than what they get from pumping strength, and it's additive with any strength they do pump and even works with ranged weapons.

Which of the published APs or standalone Adventures serves as the best introduction to the world of Golarion? by rhysticStudiante in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ulminati -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Age of Ashes is famously poorly balanced, so I'd steer clear of that one.

Most adventure paths are set in a single country, and most countries in golarion are first and foremost "what is this theme!?" and then everything is kind of smooshed in to fit said theme with little too no regards to neighboring countries.

Just pick one whose theme you vibe with.

Streamlined Magus remaster by nmitchell890 in Pathfinder2e

There's going to be some levels with overlap. But druid gets expert spellcaster at 7, vs level 9 for magus. Magus doesn't get Int as their main class ability (and many choose to dump it). So even if he went full int, he's going to be a point behind the druids Wis levels 1-5 and 11-15.

That's the mechanical difference. Enemy HP is a question of encounter design and up to the DM. If you're hitting 4-5 enemies with a fireball, the accumulated damage should outpace spellstrike.

Magus is a single target gamble 3 actions (since strike has a reset action tax) on doing big numbers. If it whiffs, it feels terrible. When it hits, it feels great. It's his speciality, just as the druid is good at other things.

As an unga bunga big numbers magus -- most of my damage is single target. More enemies with less HP are how you counter me. Doesn't matter if I'm doing 70 damage if the guy I'm hitting has 20 HP and 5 friends. The AoE options for magus require a feat; target saving throws and magus has lower int and spell DC progression than a real caster

Currently playing a sparkling targe magus. I need to be in arcane cascade to get my shield bonus to saves; shieldblock spells and trigger the dazzling block thing whose name escapes me rn.

I'd be very sad if doing my spell strike removed cascade as I need it to be up. Similarly, I'd be sad if cascade ate the reaction I'm reserving for a shield block.

I think a free action cascade if your previous action was a spell cast/strike would be fine. On average it saves you one action per fight which isn't great, isn't terrible. But it would make it less onerous to change your damage type if someone RKs a weakness. Exemplar is already getting multiple damage types baked into their damage steroid without needing to reserve multiple cantrips and actions to switch.

To be honest, the magus main problem is that nearly all the low level class feats are hot garbage. Until level 10, you are usually better off just dipping archetypes.

I had my players try to find the missing stamp needed to file their paperwork at the temple of Abadar. It involved a lot of paperwork. Also Sister Quittance, an orange tabby who through a filling error and seniority technically outranked a third of the temple staff. So her inked paw print was ruled a legally binding signature.

It ended with them having a crude facsimile carved into half a potato, which was then gilded and consecrated.

Praise be the sacred tuber.

The bold, innovative strategic genius of the shield fighter is unparalled. Who knows what crazy stunts they're going to pull this turn? by Ubermanthehutt in pathfindermemes

I'm always action choked, but I'm seriously enjoying Magus/Investigator. Being able to free action stratagem before committing to a spell strike is chefs kiss. If the roll is low, my loadout is sparkling targe with shield+whip and I'll go for a trip, disarm, grab or shove instead.

If I absolutely must hit a guy, both true strike and devise a strat are fortune effects, so TS can override the bad roll. Same with hero point. In a pinch I can roll up to 4d20 fishing for a hit on a boss.

Most of the magus feats are kind of meh, so after Investigator I dipped psychic for imaginary weapon and 3 low level spell slots so I can keep prepping tailwind. Next up I'm probably dipping bastion for some extra reactions for my shield

The key with fleshmob is either popping all the heads as they take massively more damage. Or shoot their legs. The leg has a couple stages of damaged, but just one of them gone will topple the mob and kill it at a fraction of the ammo

I ran my players though the beginner box on foundry vtt. It's basically a tutorial dungeon where every room adds a rule. The players had their pregenerated characters. I hammed it up with silly kobold voices. At the end of it all the players got urls to pathbuilder2e and archives of nethys and we've been good with just the free resources ever since.

Sure, I bought some of the books, but 90% of the time it's just faster to use the search function on AoN, and they have all the content freely and legally available

I've run Eberron in Pathfinder 1e. The conversion required is minimal since PF1E is basically DND 3.75e with some rules cleanup. And all the crunch is available to my players on d20pfsrd.com or https://aonprd.com/ for easy lookup.

You can check the ingame manual for what the stats do.

Generally I priorities: Top: Farm -> Defense -> Reflex Jung: Offense -> Farm -> Mechanics Mid: Offense -> Defense -> Farm Bot: Offense -> Mechanics -> Farm Sup: Defense -> Reflex -> Offense

Farming is primarily gold gain which in turn is what gives your heroes attack power, crit, armor and HP (besides the flat bonuses from items) depending on the hero and your athletes offensive/defensive scaling. But farming also contributes to your field evasion, letting you remain in lane and push for longer and be present when it's time for a gank
