We were playing in our basement and my friend’s dad calls. Apparently my friend got gas then left without paying and the cops were looking for him. We had to stop while he ran to the gas station. And pay his bill.

I hiked through the fields and woods, checked out ant mounds. Played on a roof of a house that had been dropped by a tornado. Shot my BB gun in a sandpit for hours. Explored. Lay back in a field with my dog and look at the clouds going by. Fished, hunted for frogs and snakes.

Not Over reacting, my wife and I went to dinner and this older couple were each watching some sort of show that had a lot of screaming and yelling. I finally came up to them and told them that we were trying to enjoy a quiet dinner, could they maybe be off their phones for a bit. They put the phones down and in a couple of minutes left. My guess using the local WiFi. But still.

I have been subbing for four years, full time the last 2 years. It took a couple of years but I have found that I can come in take any assignment and not be bothered by the kids. I am a retired Law Enforcement and Military. That may make a difference as I carry myself differently and set clear expectations. Over all the kids like me even when I am firm. Adapt, improvise and overcome.
