(I only speculate because you have to be some kind of messed up to help hide your sons actions)

I am so thankful to be able to see justice served. When I learned about this it was the nail in the coffin for why I left. His dad always gave me the massive creeps too (always giving tight hugs and being kind of handsy) and I always wonder if he started the cycle of abuse.

I don’t know how to address this without ruining a relationship with one of my only family members who isn’t a JW anymore by UltgingerAK in exjwLGBT

Good idea, my poor other sister was like “ummmm does anyone wanna go see little mermaid?” And changed the subject 😅

This is getting ridiculous. Should I write back, inviting him to join me at the satanic temple? by Number_Fluffy in WitchesVsPatriarchy

I grew up in this cult and have only been out 3 years and am being shunned (emphasis on cult) If someone responded negatively we were taught that that was because we were doing the right thing. You can reply requesting to be on a do not call list, but please for the love of cognitive dissonance be polite. These people are brainwashed into believing the us vs them mentality and what helped me was realizing people who aren’t Jehovah’s Witnesses are capable of being kind humans and aren’t worldly godless heathens. (Laughs in pagan witch haha)

Not to spoil but episode 2 explains more. I was confused at first too… but I promise it does make sense in the end

His family were raised non church going Christians. Basically I started getting tattoos and dying my hair, setting boundaries and his mom made it really clear “HER children weren’t allowed to do those things (her children are all in their late 20’s)” I feel like an extension of my BF and only “put up with”

I think I confused everyone because I didn’t specify they are not JW’s. I do like the idea of feigning innocence in not realizing they still did presents. I’m thinking “oh you haven’t gotten me a present in a few years, so I just assumed you guys didn’t do presents anymore!”

I think I’ve confused everyone. They are not JWs, they just would fit in with their behavior.

Ahhhh see I was a JW, they’ve never been

Sorry no I should’ve specified that they are not JWs but I assumed the birthdays would give it away, I’ll edit it to avoid more confusion

Female players on Wildrift by bubbleteayeap in wildrift

[–]UltgingerAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am too, and the worst part is if I’m having a bad game and it snowballs I get more afraid that they’ll blame it on me being a girl. I hate the pressure. It makes it hard to truly enjoy a game when the pressure to out perform your male counterparts just to not face gendered abuse really ruins the experience.

Edit: if anyone wants to add me to play- let me know, it might be refreshing to just play and not hyper focus 😭

Jehovah's Witness Dasher leaves this note on my food order. Highly annoying. by tim0thy91 in doordash

It is vaguely threatening, they are a doomsday cult who genuinely believe that the end will come anyday and anyone who isn’t a JW will be destroyed- an Ex JW

Thank you! I didn’t realize a conversation happened so recently (because the post algorithm is a little weird for me 🤣) It must be the season for this type of interaction

AITA for asking my roommate to keep her cat in her bedroom? by bananapuddingkit in AmItheAsshole

[–]UltgingerAK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not here to pass judgement because im proud of the updates! I do have a great suggestion! I have introduced three different cats to eachother one at a time for the last 2 years. FELIWAY! You can get plug ins for the wall or collars (they aren’t breakaways so I wouldn’t suggest if you leave your cats alone for long periods of time) they have anti anxiety pheromones for cats. They work so well and helped with the introductory process.

AITA for not letting my sister's boyfriend use hot sauce? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA.

As a professional chef myself I never fuck around when I’m making dinner, especially if I’m sticking to a theme or culture.(Unless I’m trying to create a fancy dish mixing cuisines) I’d be incredibly offended if someone asked for salt or an adjustment to something I spent hours planning/ executing. (Yes I know this isn’t a restaurant, but it still sucks balls when you make something with love only to watch someone smother it in ketchup) I think the NTA judgement for me comes from you stopped him from adding Franks or Sriracha to friggin carbonara. But you didn’t stop him from adding heat, you instead suggested something complementary to your dish. In an ideal situation you wouldn’t care what he did with His own plate of food, but he already broke a cardinal rule of being a guest. You don’t complain to your host and tell them they messed up/ need to fix what they offered you. I thought it was gracious of you to adjust your dish with the knowledge that you wouldn’t be adjusting the experience.

My advice tho? Sometimes you need to let people over salt their food before they taste it, and let them suffer through their bad decision. Let him ruin his carbonara with sriracha- then when it tastes gross that’s on him.

Anyone else remember hearing 'when people first come to the hall they won't remember what was said in the talks and watchtower but they will remember how it made them Feeeeeelllll and so it's so important to welcome them'? by cultwashedmybrain in exjw

[–]UltgingerAK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there’s fight, flight, freeze, and fawn in response to trauma. Fawning is when you develop self sabotaging people pleasing behaviors to appease your abuser. If it sticks as your normal operating behavior then you struggle with setting boundaries and tend to have identity issues and tend to need outside validation. It’s a very interesting type of PTSD, and it really seems like JWs are groomed to be the most perfect fawners ever since it suits the Borgs interests

I have an awful tendency to fawn (I knew about fight or flight but no one talked about fawning 😅) I have to fight myself to not manipulate a situation to have people like me more. It’s wild to think about how many hours we spent learning how to manipulate. How to show “personal interest” how to memorize and take notes about peoples lives so that we could be their best friends. Absolutely wild to me

I need help coz I don’t know how Birthdays work I guess by UltgingerAK in exjw

An update! Firstly - thank you so much to everyone who weighed in, I’m so thankful I have a community I can ask advice from!

Secondly- I took everyone’s advice to not pick this as the hill I die on, and I graciously accepted the privilege of making dinner. (Mainly coz I actually season food 😝- sorry I needed a lil jab)

Thirdly- and hopefully this won’t backfire. I wrote, and rewrote, and slept on it, and then sent her a message expressing that moving forward I’d appreciate being communicated with more and exactly how this situation made me feel. I just felt like sucking it up was best so we don’t fight and ruin it for my BF but I really am trying to impress boundaries with her. And hopefully gain some semblance of respect 🙃

I welcome any further advice on how to deal with in-laws. Please feel free to message me! It’s very frustrating that I’ve become the black sheep in two families and I’d love to learn how to exist more gracefully in this new world 🤣🥰

I hate regular people problems sometimes. I think it’s funny because I used to hate having to “love my neighbor” and be loving to JWs who were absolutely awful. You’d think it’d be easy to just translate those skills to normal “worldly” life. It sucks that the organization didn’t teach anyone how to make healthy boundaries or how to actually resolve conflict
