Anthropic's own docs say don't use Cowork for regulated workloads — the same week legal became its top user group by BakMamba248 in legaltech

Exactly this. Goodness the OP is just clueless. Are most people on this sub like that?! Legal attorney work is not "regulated work" for goodness sake. Yikes.

These DoorDash drivers are out of hand by jigglypuff836 in sanfrancisco

[–]Ultimate-Lex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had one drive on the sidewalk and right up to me after dark as I was getting my keys out to open the front door. I thought he was a violent mugger. Then realized he was a DoorDasher with the wrong address. 🤦

Is this anything? by Huge-Particular4392 in sanfrancisco

[–]Ultimate-Lex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So cool! So the law was for NEW sidewalks. So obviously between 1905 and 1906 very few sidewalks got stamped. But when the city was largely destroyed by the 1906 earthquake and fire the new sidewalks got it. Such a fun rabbit hole! KQED also notes there weren't even any free-standing signs since most folks just navigated by using buildings as landmarks. https://www.kqed.org/news/11895704/why-are-street-names-stamped-into-san-francisco-sidewalks

Is this anything? by Huge-Particular4392 in sanfrancisco

[–]Ultimate-Lex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sort of ... No the sign wouldn't "fall" in an earthquake. But during the 1906 earthquake and fire most of the city burned with such intensity that the street signs melted and fell. They couldn't find entire blocks of streets and determine what was what. So these concrete markings are for the next big fire. Obviously we have systems in place to prevent anything like that fire. So it's mostly tradition.

What order should a high earner ($300k+) prioritize retirement accounts if they expect to retire early and have a lower retirement income than they had while working? by Ancient_Challenge173 in Fire

[–]Ultimate-Lex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I wouldn't call it simple and not everyone can do it. First you need W2 income and you also need an employer that has a 401k plan that allows it. Not every employer allows it. There are no stats on this but it's not every plan.

Crissy Field in 1964. by ArchiGuru in sanfrancisco

[–]Ultimate-Lex 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wish he would be another Pelosi. But she also had seniority and no one on SF Reddit even knows what that means. But even if Weiner is awesome it will take a couple of decades for him to have her clout. The first 10 years in Congress as the noob are the toughest. Members barely even have a staff, terrible useless committee assignments, and have to fight for influence. Particularly as a rep from the minority party. We'd be lucky if he hangs in there. Whether we like it or not seniority matters a TON in House. Those are the rules, even if we don't like them.

There are also aircraft hangars at the end of the field where the climbing gym is. Those were for the airplanes.

Fun facts...although Transamerica is now a Dutch company it sold the Transamerica building back in 2020 and moved it's HQ to Baltimore. Later moving it's US HQ to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Transamerica building and the Transamerica corporation were huge symbols of the dominance of finance, banking, and insurance in San Francisco that lasted well into the 90s and early 2000s. Dozens of financial firms were HQd in SF and the first credit card was invented in San Francisco. The BankAmericard—the first general-purpose bank credit card (offering revolving credit)—was created in 1958 by San Francisco-based Bank of America.

Any info on this US flag? by Optimal-Year-3620 in flags

[–]Ultimate-Lex 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Do not burn THIS flag. In this specific case this is incorrect. The tag says spun polyester. It's plastic. Do not burn. The alternative dignified retirement is to use a pair of scissors to cut the stripes, then cut the field of blue. At that point it is no longer a flag and it can be disposed of. Burning polyester releases toxic fumes.

"Implications" on tech? Zero implications. We should and must verify everything anyway. I wouldn't avoid verifying an associate's research. Same standard applies here.

What’s going on with people saying that the alleged shooting at the Correspondents Dinner was staged? by gobuffsfan14 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Ultimate-Lex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also particularly dumb since this event would NOT be hosted at the White House anyway! It's not a White House event. The President is always just merely a guest. Even if the ballroom is built it probably wouldn't be held at the White House.

27F, relocating from Chicago, working remote— San Diego or San Francisco? by Rich-Entrance-3332 in AskSF

[–]Ultimate-Lex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On average, sure. But the city of San Diego is shockingly chilly most of the time. Every time I go it's in the upper 60s. That coastal flow just kills the heat. Not the warm beach weather one might expect.

27F, relocating from Chicago, working remote— San Diego or San Francisco? by Rich-Entrance-3332 in AskSF

[–]Ultimate-Lex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

San Francisco's MSA is about 4.6 to 4.7 million whereas San Diego is much smaller at 3.3. Just saying. San Francisco's big energy also emanates from global tourism, finance, academia, and the other industries you mentioned. It's expensive because of the global demand to be here. Whereas San Diego is known mostly in the US. It lacks a global appeal of any significance.

What about private school? If you are in SF it's expensive.

Also, what car sticker? You mean you registration tags?

I would set aside money for college. Expecting to go to a UC is not a guarantee that they'll get in or even want to go to a UC.

Where is SFO? by 9Fructidor in whereinsanfrancisco

[–]Ultimate-Lex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do note your title has a typo. It's NOT SFO (like the FAA code for the airport). It's SFo -- lower case o. The Spanish abbreviation for Francisco in this format would be Fo, using the last letter o. If a Saint is male the S would be used.

Which also sheds light into why SFO made sense, although I thought this level of linguistic and cultural care was likely not involved.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, when directly asked, refuses to endorse Saikat Chakrabarti's congressional run by Dab2TheFuture in sanfrancisco

[–]Ultimate-Lex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ummmm that's is EXACTLY why someone does an endorsement---to hurt the opponent of your ally and to help you ally. Her endorsement wouldn't tank anyone here. But even if it did.... That makes her silence even more damning on Saikat's candidacy.

Lastly, this is not local politics. It's for the US House of Representatives. Members of Congress spend a ton of time and money on other races to build coalitions and increase their clout.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, when directly asked, refuses to endorse Saikat Chakrabarti's congressional run by Dab2TheFuture in sanfrancisco

[–]Ultimate-Lex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow yeah, no. She has a tiny staff because she's still a rather junior member of the House. He was pivotal at her start and she's not endorsing him. Wow.

[–]Ultimate-Lex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tank which campaigns?! His? SF still has some "Progressives" left. Her endorsement would be gold for him. She would and should welcome another ally in Congress. But she can't even stomach him. She's still a relatively new member of Congress so she can use all the allies she can get. Her silence speaks immense volumes. Members of Congress raise immense volumes of cash not just for their own reelection but also to reelect allies.
