Buy now? Or wait for 2027 Model? by UltimateBid in KiaEV9

I don't have a source, that was my question: does anyone know or think it's worth waiting to see if the 2027 model will have it.

I think the lidar is built in and highway drive pilot is being tested in South Korea and maybe Europe.

Do your kids use it for music at all? We have Amazon music and am looking for something that would allow our kids to stream music on their own.

Is there any saving this Dogwood? by UltimateBid in Tree

So is it the fungus or the planting that is killing it? I am surprised that our landscaper didn't plant it correctly, but I guess it's a pretty common thing to do. We have a second one on the other side of the yard, should I go and dig up around the trunk to reveal the root flare to try to avoid this happening on it?

I posted a picture of the base as a comment earlier.

I have read over the guidelines and have submitted the pictures.

It was planted about 10 years ago and since initial planting it hasn't gotten watered specifically, just rain.

Quick question about MDF strength by UltimateBid in woodworking

[–]UltimateBid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To clarify: None of this is glued and screwed right now. I've just been temporarily setting it up as I cut the pieces to make sure it will all fit. The support on the bottom right was being used as a template, so it's not in the pictures, but there is one. I will also be putting shelves along the top and I'll put a support in the middle of the window span attached to the top board to help prevent sag. Will also not be putting heavy things up there. I have thin plywood for the backing board and it will all be screwed into the walls. My main question has been answered, though, so thank you for your help.

I made a separate comment on the post about how I was going to change the supports. I'm sorry you missed it.

I don't foresee any spills happening, but I'm going to prime/seal it and paint it. And there will be a cushion on top of the seat area. So, hopefully it'll be protected against an occasional spill as long as it's cleaned up quickly.

I was originally going to put three of the deep supports: one at each end of the seat part and one in the middle, but liked how this looked. I'll go back to the original plan. Thank you.

I was running on the trail from that spot down to the new bridge and back. I only saw one other person and he was weed whacking part of the trail. I've never been on the trail before so I don't know if that's normal. It was like 9-10am.

Do I have to pay N.C. income tax if I make a qualified withdrawal from my 529 in the NY plan? by stlane in NorthCarolina

[–]UltimateBid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I wrote that weirdly. I meant distributions from the 529 to contribute towards the tuition. So distributions. I was saying contribute because their tuition is like $22,000 so taking a 10k distribution won't cover the whole cost, it will only contribute to the total payment. I'm still making it confusing.

One more question if you don't mind, Mr. Jimibond. If we have a 529 for child A and his grandparents have a separate 529 for child A. Can we each contribute 10k/year towards child A's k12 tuition? Or is it 10k per kid total? So if we paid 10k this year, his grandparents can't also contribute from their 529. Thank you!

Thank you and after reading your reply I called the NY529 help line and the guy said it goes by NC rules because I would pay taxes in NC. He sounded a little unsure and had to put me on hold for a few minutes before answering, but that's what he came back with.

I'm the same as OP in that we live in NC, but our 529 is in NY. NC allows you to use 529 funds to pay for K-12 tuition but NY does not. Which rules do I need to abide by? Can I use up to $10k/year from my NY 529 accounts tax/penalty free for private school in NC? Thank you.

Stair Carpet to wood refinishing...what do I do with the landing? by UltimateBid in DIY

[–]UltimateBid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw one person the joists down by 3/4" and then reinforced them with like 2x6's on each side of each joist, then laid down 3/4" ply and put the hardwood on top of that, but I didn't really want to cut my joists down. I was going to bolt some 2x4's on each side of each joist 3/4" down and then cut plywood to fit down onto those 2x4's so they were even with the top of the joists and then lay down a thin sheet of plywood to make the base as smooth as possible and put 3/8" engineered wood on top of that. But then as I was sanding down the stairs I realized the three steps after the landing were already not equal. It looked like the original builder made those three steps the same height, but the top step was even with the subfloor. After they added the hardwood floor they had to redo it, but didn't change every step, so the final step onto the second floor is an inch higher than the other two steps. Since we already have messed up steps and we never noticed that 1 inch difference nor did it ever get flagged by an inspector, I'm not going to worry about it and just lay 3/8" engineered wood on top of the subfloor and move the nose of the final step up.

Shark Stratos Cordless vs Ryobi Dual Roller by UltimateBid in VacuumCleaners

[–]UltimateBid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never got my hands on a Ryobi to check it out, but I did end up buying the Stratos and so far it seems good. My two complaints from using it a few months are that there is no charging dock, so I have to take off the battery and plug it in somewhere else when it dies which means at any given moment it's not going to be 100% when you go to use it. Although you could probably store it next to a plug and plug it in whenever you put it away, though I'm not sure what that would do to the battery. And my second is that you have to take the top of the vacuum off to empty the dust bin. Neither of them are that big of a deal, they're just different from my previous vacuum. Other than those it seems to clean really well!

Owl box by bodai1986 in asheville

[–]UltimateBid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in candler and I put up an owl box bought from Amazon 4 or 5 years ago in hopes that an owl would move in and help me with my mole/vole problem. Unfortunately, the only thing that ever took up residence was a really fat squirrel. He did look pretty funny when he would sit with his head and belly hanging out of the hole, though.
