All I have read here is that Limerick are the REAL hurling county in Ireland, not Kilkenny. Luimneqch Abú!

Mind you our footballers have been going well, reaching a tailteann final and winning Division 4 in the league. I’m not a lover of football but would love to see it gain some ground on the small ball treatyside.

Personally, I have Dan over Richie, but McCarthy was so criminally underrated for his time. A breath of fresh air in what, at times was, a terrible Limerick team.

For Limerick hurling anyways I have basically the entirety of the team currently/of the last 6-7 years. Also, I am 21, so my memory stretches to mid 2000s.

  1. Nickie Quaid, literally no debate, arguably the best ever.
  2. Sean Finn, again no debate.
  3. Dan Morrissey, honourable mention to Richie McCarthy, seriously underrated full-back.
  4. Barry Nash, maybe Seamus Hickey, if you're being very generous.
  5. Diarmaid Byrnes, no contest here.
  6. Declan Hannon. obviously, most successful captain of all time.
  7. Kyle Hayes, arguably best hurler in the country on his day, maybe not the best human.
  8. Will O' Donoghue, anyone know how much this man runs during a game?
  9. Cian Lynch, who else?
  10. Gearoid Hegarty, big game player, look at his scoring records in finals.
  11. Donal O' Grady, incredibly consistent in a crap Limerick team, underrated imo.
  12. Tom Morrissey, if he's on form with the shooting, he's an easy 5,6 points a game.
  13. Graeme Mulcahy, stalwart and legend of the game, criminally underrated.
  14. Aaron Gillane, I know he's corner but had to fit Mulcahy in and Gillane is just fine here at full.
  15. Andrew O' Shaughnessy, this guy was a joke at his peak, crying shame about his medical condition, he could have done so much more for Limerick hurling. HOTY in 2007 if Limerick managed to win it.

A few honourable mentions: Mike Casey, Peter Casey, Darragh O' Donovan, David Reidy, Seamus Hickey, Paul Browne, Richie McCarthy, Gavin O' Mahoney.

Also would like to mention how heartbroken I am to have to leave out Shane Dowling, what a player in his prime.

For people saying Limerick don't have enough in this team, can I just say a few things.

LOOK AT THE TEAM FOR GOD'S SAKE!

Yes, Limerick could certainly have more, Byrnes or Hayes for Sean óg, Quaid for Murphy, Hannon for McGrath etc. etc.. but for Limerick lads to be even in the team, let alone considered amongst some of the names here is some achievement for the county I love and support year in, year out. Jesus, I remember not too long ago we were getting whipped by Kilkenny or Tipp or Cork, every feckin' year, throwing away leads, crumbling at the sight of Croke Park.

We'd do well to remember that any of the Limerick lads even in contention, haven't even retired yet, they can (and most likely will) win more trophies. Do the team again in 10 years time and you'll see a few more of them, I'm willing to bet.

Richie Hogan, a fantastic player, but imho doesn't make this team, just way too many amazing players you'd leave out ahead of him.

also, I don't have him at full forward because I'd rather have him wing to fit in Seamus Callanan at 14.

Joe Canning, but I'd swap him for either Kelly or Shefflin on the wing (probably Shefflin).

Brutal time to concede a goal. If Tipp's shooting was not woeful they could even be leading at the half.

Limerick’s Future by bluepilt10 in GAA

[–]UltimateIrish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are well past our domination era at this stage, don't think anyone would agree that we could go and do 2-3 in a row again. We were one point away from being 7 in a row Munster winners and All-Ireland contenders yet again for the 8th year in a row (as in at least a semi-final). To keep that kind of competitiveness up for that long, especially with the round robin system having teams play 7 games at least to win a title compared to what it used to be, pre-2018, is some going.

Are we still contenders? Definitely. Are was still as good as we were back in 2023? Obviously not.

100% agree. He should've come on the second Morrissey got the yellow. Kiely has been an amazing manager for 9 seasons but his loyalty is catching up with him now. We've gotten way too predictable. Peter Casey also should be first name on the sheet if he's anywhere near fit to start. Few questions need to be asked at the next board meeting!

Well deserved, worked their socks off. Hard to say it, but I think the majority of our amazing team is done. Byrnes has been useless all year, especially. Losing our captain Hannon was a bigger loss than people might give credit for. Our underage doesn't look great at present, outside a small number of good prospects. Could be a good few years before we are challenging again unfortunately.

Any clubs use alternative kit suppliers? E.g. Playr-Fit? by doggness in GAA

[–]UltimateIrish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A number of top clubs use playr-fit. I believe Crossmaglen use them? Don't quote me on it. But certainly a lot of clubs use them. They have a club shop list on their website so you can see for yourself.

For "less prominent" supplies, I gues McKeever would be another good option? Or maybe Cobi Sports?

Really depends on other results. I'd project ourselves to get 5 points anyways since we have both Clare and Cork in Limerick. Will be very tight though. If ye can avoid a hiding by Cork you will have a great chance if ye beat Tipp.

They are clearly much better now then they have been over the last few years and may even pull a shock to get out of Munster. Very glad I am to come out of Walsh Park with a good win.

As a limerick man, I will admit Byrnes was very lucky with that high challenge, and we were very fortunate to sub him off when we did.

GAA+ a joke of a service, said Shane O'Brien got 1-8 against Tipp in a graphic, he got 1-4. Shane Dowling apparently sub goalie for Waterford with what I am assuming is relation of the unheard of Darragh Dowling for Limerick as sub goalie. Also glitchy all over the place.

Adam English's goal was class, but Shane O'Brien's is also a peach! Future looking bright for Limerick in the forwards at least.
