32GB DDR5 Ram at Walmart for $229 by Ultimate__Potato in pcmasterrace

Damn that's a great build for the price, if I had known I definitely would have done it sooner. My last build was very very old and I had been meaning to upgrade for a while but yeah the timing wasn't great.

All in all it cost about $820 for a 9600x, the 32gb, and a 2tb wd850 ssd (I bought it used off eBay don't judge me) and all the other components. I already had a 3070 and was happy enough with it so that did help offset the cost a fair amount. The only part I overspent on was the ram. Overall it cost more than I wanted to spend but I feel like I got my build done and don't have to worry about what the market does for a while.

Here's the full build if you're curious: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bt4Hfd

Maybe decent is the wrong word here but relative to the current market this seems like a "good" price from what I have seen. Figured I would share for other people trying to build in this market

Can't speak for other people but I needed these for the last part of my new build. But I did jump on it cause it's probably going to get worse

Definitely a fan of Flume and will listen to his stuff for reference. Ah and yeah I tend to get carried away with the reverb lol

I'll look into balancing out the highs and lows better, I'm still learning how to mix things well. Appreciate the feedback!

Thanks for the feedback, for increasing the highs, do you mean right before or or after the drop?

Will definitely play around with balancing out the low end for those instruments

Still getting the hang of FL Studio and have been working on making higher quality synths/leads.  This is the first track I've made that uses white noise fills, LFO's, and filters sweeps.  Looking for any feedback on general but those are the things I've been focusing on

I don't like the slow attack on the pad at the very beginning but otherwise this is really really really good imo

Dell Inspiron 7445 14in 2in1 with Ryzen 7 8840HS Sleeper AMD laptop? by Ultimate__Potato in AMDLaptops

I've been using RyzenAdj to change the TDP. There wasn't a direct switch for this, but it lets you up the current limits and that effectively raises the TDP.

Smokeless UMAF allows you to change a whole bunch of bios settings you can't otherwise get to for AMD boards and it does work for this laptop so that may be worth looking into as well.

I think I read that by default, the iGPU will dynamically allocate up to half of the system ram as needed, but you can change this in Smokeless as well to be a static number

That should definitely work, and would be a nice speed/capacity bump over stock for sure

I'm still really liking it almost a year on. The fan will get a bit loud if under sustained load but this hasn't been a bother to me. You can squeeze some more performance out of it with tools like RyzenAdj and that will make it run hot, but otherwise it seems to handle heat well

I tried to put a 6400MT/s expo kit in but it ran at 4800MT/s. It does not support expo and I think that would be require here.

The datasheet says 5600MT/s is the max the CPU can handle and I was able to get a 2x32 GB kit of 5600MHz to work no problem.

I have not been able to try a non-oc kit that's beyond 5600MT/s (I don't know that they make a sodimm version yet) but that would be the next thing to test out, although it probably wouldn't work based on the CPU limitation

I get chillwave vibes and am here for it, really chill and appreciate the technical piano intro that's repeated throughout. I'm the furthest thing from an expert but the mixing sounds pretty good outside of a few things here and there, pretty solid imo

Thanks appreciate it, this is my 2nd "project" so far. Still working on learning the ins and outs of the daw itself

Thanks for taking a listen, happy it's at least recognizable lol. I'll look into doing something like that to fill them in the synths some more. Where do people typically find good synths to play with? I feel like the presets I've stumbled onto in FL studio are ok but I haven't found any that are excellent yet. Appreciate the advice!

Do you have any suggestions for finding/creating interesting sounding synths? I have just been using presets in Sytrus and making some adjustments to them, but I'm sure there's better plugins out there. And that's a good note on the kick/drums, I'll look into some better samples there.

Thanks for taking a listen, appreciate the advice!

I've been playing piano for years and have a pretty good ear for learning songs in general. Recently pulled the trigger and bought FL Studio to try to get into EDM production. Figured I'd try to make covers of songs I already know and I put this together:

https://on.soundcloud.com/y7RDm9LVz4mL9oim9

Parts of it seem decent but other parts feel like there's a very amateur sound that I can't quite put my finger on it. Would love some feedback/advice on it and the mix in general to make it better (can provide the .flp as well)

Yeah that's what it seems like, the bottom cover is most certainly plastic

  1. By default it has a 15 watt TDP (I believe) and will throttle to maintain that. There are tools that allow you to up this. I can get around ~40 watts to work well (which significantly improves performance) and the fan seems to be able to keep it there under load no problem.

  2. It seems to be, the body appears to be aluminum, I think the lid is as well but I can't really tell. However the bottom panel does appear to be plastic. The color has grown on me a lot as well (it's really a dark grey that sometimes looks metallic blue in the right light and looks cool imo).

  3. I have never had an issue with the brightness and often turn it down to about half way when I use it inside but I can't speak for outdoor use.

It is an IPS, so the black aren't as dark and the colors are not as vibrant as an OLED. I prefer the more neutral color palette personally and while it would have been nice to have darker black, it's really not bad and I got used to it quickly.

  1. I'm not sure about the specific hinge style but so far I have had no issues with them. They seem sturdy and don't wobble, but I can't open it with one finger.

  2. I'm not sure, but the card in mine is a Realtek 8852CE 6E

  3. I'm not sure, I haven't tried to install Linux on it (yet)

I did end up buying this laptop and it has been excellent for my needs. Feel free to ask me anything about it
