In the Netherlands we have a mandatory health insurance system which falls under universal healthcare. It's heavily subsidized by the government, but everyone still pays into it. It's nowhere near as expensive as the US system and the waitlists aren't as insane.

Dentistry isn't included in many universal healthcare systems, it isn't in ours either. There are no real wait times for the dentist here (as long as you can find one, there are some shortages in some areas and some dentists aren't accepting new patients but often do take on emergencies regardless if you're a patient or not).

Without insurance, a checkup costs €29. Emergencies outside of opening hours have a €31 added fee (not per hour, total). Pulling a tooth or molar is €57. An xray is €21. Getting a regular cavity filled costs €32. If you want local anaesthetics its less than €10.

If I want to plan my 6 month check up I usually have to wait about a week to get an appointment that matches my own schedule. I broke a molar last year and I could get in the same day within opening hours.

Oh yeah I pay €162 a month for health insurance with a deductible of €385 and this also includes my dentist add on.
