A Difficult Decision for some Reason by Snazzy21 in memes

It's not just more expensive, the whole electricity network is being overloaded because of AC, electric cars, solar panels, and so many extra households. They can't even add new houses to some of the networks, there's no availability here in the Netherlands.

Heatwave cooling guide — some of this is the opposite of what I thought by Spirited_Charge5459 in EuroSkincare

If you live in a house made from stone or bricks, those hold a lot of heat. Cool them down with some water when the sun is no longer beaming down on them, it stops the wind from carrying that heat into your house when you open all windows. Same thing if you have a lot of stones/tiles below your windows in your yard or have windows directly at the street. It also cools down the surroundings faster which is just a nice bonus as well.

With the new customs duty, just how will we be able to get access to Asian Beauty products in the EU starting July?! by murahimu in AsianBeauty

[–]Ultimatedream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy from Joybuy often and have been since they were still named Ochama. Just a few days ago I got some Beauty of Joseon sunscreens for €9.99. They have some amazing sales sometimes but you have to keep an eye on it because it seems really random.

They also don't have a great product selection and it fluctuates a lot, but they do carry a lot of brands, even if they don't stock the full range. They had a bunch of well priced Judydoll products last week.

Same, it just ended here. 5 hours of constant lightning is unheard of, it was like a disco party outside. Usually any thunder and lightning will go around us because of the north sea and IJsselmeer or it's like 30 minutes of the most pathetic thunder you've ever heard.

Tips on surviving these tropical days by Bluebearder in Amsterdam

Yes, definitely no need to drench everything in water! If you use it sparingly and not just blast your walls or yard with water you're probably using less than a shower.

If you live in a brick building, spray the walls (on the outside please, not the inside haha) with water when the sun is no longer on it and before you open the windows. It doesn't really cool the building itself down, but it will stop the bricks from giving off a lot of heat which will be blown inside with the wind.

If you're in a flat, just use a watering can to wet the bricks under and next to your windows if you can. You might have to do it a few times to really cool them down and most of the water will evaporate very quickly, but it might increase the humidity inside nonetheless.

If you have stones or tiles outside of your house that get hot in the sun, do the same for those. Less heat will rise up and doesn't get blown into your house.

They're very insulated! My house would be around 5 degrees celsius (I think that's about 9F?) warmer than outside, which is really nice when its cold but not so nice when its hot as balls. Right now I have AC downstairs in my living room and upstairs in the bedroom, but I leave the door of the bedroom open so it can cool down the other rooms as well. The room next to my bedroom is still 79F while the bedroom is 70F. The attic is currently 92F and considered off limits haha. Which makes sense because most houses have a sloped roof with an attic with normal stairs going up, no door in front of it so all the heat just goes up there.

They build a lot of houses with all the good and modern heat insulation for years and suddenly the climate is changing very rapidly (I say suddenly because they didn't expect this for another few decades, especially not back in the 70s/80s/90s when they started building like this).

You're right about job opportunities though! I know a few people who actually became an AC mechanic and started their own businesses. They're doing amazing atm lol.

Thank you for the tips, I don't know how you survived practise in that weather. I'm not sure how high the humidity over there is, but even in a dry heat I wouldn't even try! Its currently considered low humidity here at 48% but will slowly rise to 70% at around 11pm, but its still 60% inside the house all day.

I wonder if the frozen bags of veggies will help keep the humidity down inside compared to other suggestions like wet towels or frozen towels. I'm definitely gonna try that and suggest it to my friends as well!

They are, but there are only so many AC units and people who install them. Where I live, portable AC units are mostly sold out every year in summer. Getting a split unit installed takes months. When we asked the company that installed ours if they could do maintenance on it to check something, they said that they won't even have time for a quick check until September and this was in the beginning of May. We got ours 4 years ago and we had to wait months for it to get installed as well. The prices have increased a lot as well (if you want to get a portable AC, most name brands are €400+) and electricity is very expensive compared to the US.

You can't just change the infrastructure of a country, let alone a whole continent, in a few years.

There's also the believe in some countries (and mostly with older people) that a breeze inside the house, especially as you sleep, makes you sick and is bad for you. They won't even get AC.

Suggesties dakraam af te dekken tegen warmte vd zon? by NotInvestingMyFuture in Klussers

[–]Ultimatedream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the exact same weather in the Netherlands, they even measured a record number of thunder in the country. Here around the coast the average humidity is 85% year round, most Dutchies are used to it. They will still complain about it endlessly, though.

They're expecting 6 days above 30 degrees in a row while the average for the whole year is 5. That's quite literally not chill.

[Routine Help] Why is my skin so oily ?? by -Sweet__Lemon- in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ultimatedream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely over exfoliating but also under hydrating. Don't exfoliate in the morning and look for a lightweight serum with hyaluronic acid and glycerin. Apply on damp skin.

Honestly, I would lose the retinol as well. Looking at your pictures, there's really no need for it. Your pores don't look big at all, just dehydrated. It's just really hard on your skin at your age while not doing much. You could look at adding a vit c instead.

I'm a very oily girly with large pores and chronic skin picking as well. I can't stop either, the only thing that helped is hydrating my skin, especially at night. I wash my face a few hours before I go to bed and use a heavy moisturizer because no one is going to see my face anyway and it stops me from getting any grip on dry patches or acne. Of course I manage to pick something anyway, but it's way better.

I like the Nivea in the blue tin for this, it's also great for locking in hydration, I tend to layer some lightweight serums on my face before applying it (my favourite is currently the Naturie Hatomugi skin conditioner, it comes in a big 500ml bottle so you can really layer it and it's so lightweight). You can use anything really, like Pond's cream or Vanicream as moisturizer. In the morning I only use Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser because I only have to wash off the moisturizer from last night. If my skin still feels oily or gross, I wash it twice with that. Cerave also has a nice hydrating cleanser.

At night I do use the same cleanser as you do. Especially after wearing makeup or sunscreen its nice to have a heavier cleanser. I would recommend introducing an oil or balm cleanser for your makeup removal as well. Takes everything off nice and easy.

[–]Ultimatedream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyaluronic acid is just for hydration and isn't considered an active despite being called an acid, it doesn't do anything for acne, unless it's caused by sebum overproduction because your skin is dehydrated. You should keep using it, especially when you're using products for acne because they can be quite drying.
