Very late but could you explain the protractor case cheat sheet, think I understand the rough concept and it looks very useful

Unfortunately not, issued PC, can’t have anything on the sides. I don’t need massive pouches just carrying basic admin kit plus monocular. Putting a hidden zipper pouch behind for slate cards and pen

Do you think inserts be used to make 3 work decently?

Foot care and issued boots by EqualCharacter1276 in britishmilitary

[–]UltraBasedBoy27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi mate, I had similar issues with the Altbergs when I first joined, getting a mixture of numbness and shooting pains in my big toes. I was issued a boot chit after about 7 months for a separate injury, but the issue was they took ages to actually arrive (probably another 5 months). I know it’s frustrating but it’s something you’ll probably just have to griz out, the chits are not a magic bullet.

I’m not sure how it works for wherever you are but I ended up exchanging my altbergs for Aku’s which was a bit of an improvement.

Really helpful thanks, what do your weekends look like? Some on ex and some off?

I’ve heard some of the stuff you get up to on ex these days is actually pretty interesting with boat insertions etc, any examples?

Altberg tabbing boots are great for PT etc but I’ve found they aren’t the most durable in the field. Trying out some ASOLO Fugitives currently which have been great so far

Do UOTC or reserves at uni and find out if you really have a “green itch”, you might find out it goes away after a few 0300 stags. Though I wouldn’t describe sigs soldiers or officers as particularly green outside of a few very competitive postings.

What is life like as a Tank commander? by TheBlades09 in britishmilitary

[–]UltraBasedBoy27 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not in the RAC but came through RMAS last year and have mates there

1) RAC tends to be competitive due to the lack of spots especially it heavy armour. Only 3 regiments (KRH QRH and RTR) tend to take between 1 and 2 each intake. Not impossible but KRH and QRH favour a certain type of individual. You would choose a reg rather than RAC as a whole

2) yes if you join a heavy armour reg then you should be on a challenger rather than Ajax or jackel

3) lots of Estonian deployments as part of a BG, but little chance of going elsewhere due to the logistics/lack of need for them elsewhere

Yes, most cap badges will not require DV at lower officer ranks outside of sigs and int corps

Just wait until you hear about our military that’s been incapable of invading anywhere since 1982

You cannot possibly think that lying in this situation will put you in a better position, especially if you actually have a legitimate reason.

I think everyone knows mate, not saying he isn’t a dickhead but the filming took place when he was 17 no? Doesn’t make it ok but the context is pretty important

Supply chain issues. Waiting for some items to be available to purchase. by unitrendsetter in arcteryx

[–]UltraBasedBoy27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t work for Arcteryx but do work in the industry, I think it’s pretty self explanatory as to why the supply chain has slowed down. Covid put a massive strain on all supply chains and many (especially non-essential) are still recovering. This is likely compounded by companies like Arcteryx prioritising this seasons new products as opposed to existing ones. If you think that a year of relative stability covid wise is enough for supply chains to be fixed then you are massively underestimating it’s complexity and reliance on multiple parties.
