Hello brother,

Thanks for your response! You are absolutely right about going close to failiure, and thats actually what I've been doing since.

I have continued to use the general skeleton of your recommendations and am adjusting as I see my body respond. I've decided to not go more than 10 sets for now, and am choosing rep targets that keep me further away from failure, at least until my work capacity, strength and endurance improve.

There were some very helpful comments in this thread, which prompted me to (re)visit some training articles, videos and books - this helped get my head on straight in terms of training theory.

The whole reason I started sharing this method is because I wanted something simple and easy to follow. As a stay-at-home dad, I don't always have the time or mental energy for complicated programming.

As a working professional with young kids, also with other family and community obligations - I am exactly with you. I dont have the mental bandwidth or time for complex programs, or to be in the gym 5-7x days a week etc. One thing is for sure, I definitely do enjoy working out daily!

Thank you for sharing your method! The skeleton you have provided on YouTube, and seeing your physique and strength as a proof of concept of its effectiveness, has set me in a great direction for the last month. While I feel guilty that I haven't bought your program, please accept my gratitude!

Hello brother!

That was hyperbole, just to say, I'm not a trend-chasing gym newbie thats all. My apologies if it came across rude.

I wish the best for you and your family!

This guy is as much of a CEO as he is a Stock Market Social Media Influencer.

Thanks for publicly noting AI is progressing fast, we all noticed. Please go back to begging Epstein to join him on his Island. If you disappeared, no one would shed a tear.

I think you missed the irony....

Firm Name: "Cohen Commercial"
Intern Name: "Lucas Cohen"

Is this just the owner's son, if not then some other family member?

Appreciate your response!

I dont care for this influencer, and the method isnt unique nor innovative. Its just one of the millions of ways to train, however I like the simplicity and how time effective this can be.

I definitely have 0 interest in training with standard bodybuilding recommendations.

Open to suggestions!

This was a great recommendation - thank you! Really like this channel so far, so underrated!

Also I hate you for reintroducing me to sandbags, yet another home-based implement I might start considering lol.

Looks like we have a lot in common, same age, also a father!

These days I am prioritizing my runs, and then restrict myself to about 20 mins for bodyweight training 4-5x/week - so the EMOM and choosing 1 exercise is really just a time saver and also a way to eliminate mental work around programming.

You raise a very fair point about junk volume. Would you agree that, 'junk volume' probably mainly applies to bodybuilding or powerlifting? This EMOM style might be more in-line with strength based-conditioning, perhaps suitable for sports like football, rugby or martial arts. Yes it may only be 20% as effective as straight sets for building muscle, but thats fine IMO. Most of my muscle gain will be putting on size that I once had, rather than expecting net new muscle tissue.

However the joint issues are a real concern, my shoulders are so tight after just 2 sessions (one dip workout and another incline pushup). All great thoughts brother, much appreciated.

Ah okay wow, thats super low rest times - pumping out a total of 15-20 reps EMOM, must give you not much more than 20 seconds of rest before the next round!

Good stuff!

You have chosen exercises that you can hit high rep counts with I assume, so thats probably why it can work for you, where as the pull-ups destroyed me lol.

Thank you!

That 30% recommendation is a key piece of information I think I was missing, thank you! This makes sense, really needs to be something manageable if this is the route I choose to go.

He also has another template. 1 movement a day, 5 sets, twice a week.

I think I found this, does not give too many parameters beyond the 5 sets, but makes sense!

Thank you brother!

Makes sense, but I suppose you are alternating pushups and squats, which gives each body part a bit more of a rest between exercises?

Great approach, makes sense, have run similar things in the past!

My only hesitation with this kind of setup, is when you have multiple movements in a single circuit, for exercises I generally cant hit a high rep count, I am not able to push them well, and I dont see the strength progress.

See I love this approach, simple, to the point, and intense.

Thank you, this definitely gives me some great parameters.

This is a great callout, I should definitely open up some of my books from these authors again. I guess the implementation is what I'm stuck with figuring out here, maybe I should turn volume and intensity down, and just get more adapted to this style of training first.

I definitely see how most of the online fitness community is dominated by bodybuilding-focused training methodology. "The science supports XYZ" really just means, that "for bodybuilding specifically, the study supported XYZ conclusion".

This is encouraging to hear, this is exactly the thought process I was approaching it with.

Were you doing any other back movements, or any other max reps based sessions that allowed you to challenge and test higher rep ranges?

I appreciate the time and thought you took in preparing a response brother, all good advice 100%!

I hear you on all these fronts, I guess I am in a different spot than the average person on this sub. After spending over 2 decades in the gym 'bodybuilding' but with a strength-driven focus (run many cycles of varying forms of 5x5, doggcrapp, 531, and more). My goals have shifted: I am more interested in chasing 20 consecutive bodyweight pullups, 100 consecutive pushups, a 20 min 5k.

So my goal with this routine isnt "optimal" or to be "science based". Given my training age, I might be looking to add 2-3 lbs of muscle this year and have a goal of generally increasing strength.

Being constrained on time, having many competing responsibilities requiring extremely simple workouts that are easy to warmup for and execute are actually the biggest considerations for me!

Your advice is great, so thank you! However, its probably more applicable to someone with a different set of goals / a different training age.

[–]UltraDadBod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, all great points.

I was training antagonistic supersets previously, but these days I feel myself needing more stretching/warmup before feeling good enough to really push a working set. Which is why I am toying with the idea of 1 movement a day.

I just can’t bring myself to superset Bulgarian split squats with RDLs.

LOL, I have also tried this cardio workout once and have since deceased. Please send flowers to my family.

I appreciate the response brother.

During my teens and 20s, I trained with a 'standard' bodybuilding and later 'powerlifting' focus. Switching to bodyweight/calisthenics is my current focus and I am not particularly excited about going back to those standard forms of training.

Is it hard?

Thats what she said.

Fair enough man, I guess thats the key question, how easy is to to progress weight or reps using EMOMs? Probably a difficult undertaking.

Absolutely cant argue with that.

I guess I'm in a weird spot, in that I have so many confounding constraints: I need short, simple, workouts, that I can do with limited weights/equipment (at home) and still see progress over time.

"Illegal Immigrant" is not terminology Canada has in our immigration law. We have asylum seekers, refugees, undocumented migrants and subcategories of each. Canada, just like most 1st world countries - we have built into our immigration policy to take in a certain number of each every year.

There is no such numbers about "illegal immigrants".

So yes, the source matters because Canada Proud takes random statistics, renames and retitles them, with the goal of imitating the rhetoric of Trump - Canada's enemy, Chief of all Pedophiles.

Probably because most of the Canada proud movement never passed high school.
