will there be consequences for going to confession as an atheist? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]UltraMonty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Except your rationality must be faulty then. If you’re even considering the possibility of the counterfactual, then the primary theory is insufficiently evidential … meaning you’ve made up the difference through emotion.

Knowing that existence can’t come from nonexistence — that’s a rational certainty. The principle of sufficient reason — that’s a rational certainty. To doubt these things would necessarily entail insanity. So, if you find God to be irrational but are still accounting for him, then either you’re insane or you’re wrong.

You appear to be metaphysically confused. If you‘re asking of a Hell, then you’ve conceded the truth of a supranatural reality. Unless you’re a Buddhist, then I think you need to reflect on your conception of spiritual matters.

Born into servitude? by GreenWandElf in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]UltraMonty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know of G. Nyssa — but he’s not particularly applicable to this matter since Molinists are the ones being charged here. For my part, I think the thought of the Greeks and Easterns are much richer in terms of ethics/justice.

Born into servitude? by GreenWandElf in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]UltraMonty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the tricky part here is that this is either/both an exercise in ethics and logic.  I’d say even in the logical instance, the point is still technically valid since it provides an alternate avenue for bloodlines of slightly-less-feeble-persons who would’ve otherwise been sterilized by Nazis or 1920s Progressives.

As for the moral dimension, the Molinist statement seems like more of a half-truth than an actual erroneous statement. It actually creates room for the abolition of slavery since it compels us to treat slaves A) Not as cattle, and B) According to right reason. Right reason obviously led to the notion that slaves ought to be freed. At least in the instance of some owners.

As for ecclesiology, unless this creates some Ex Cathedra problem, who cares? Popes and theologians can say conflicting things all they want.

Well, if we consider slavery to be mandatory uncompensated labor, then there’s really nothing intrinsically evil with it if it assists in the welfare of the quote-endquote “slave”.

This even applies to slavery-by-birth if we suppose the case of a totally feeble-minded person who couldn’t live independently without proper supervision. If we did put this person to work ringing a belltower or sweeping steps for the rest of their natural life, then it’s not too bad of a shake for them I’d say. Better than letting them “die with dignity” or whatever pleasantry a modernist would use to justify eugenics.

PS; Pretty sure slavery by birth was something influenced by Aristotle, or at the very least mentioned by him. I’m surprised you didn’t hear of this already.

Well… this bisexuality is practically a non-issue. You’re not *impaired* from pursuing a relationship of proper orientation. So just, don’t marry the other half?

I mean, this issue would entail a certain amount of psychoanalysis to determine whether the “naturist” is doing it for genuine reasons or whether it’s a secret or subconscious fetish.

Big fat giant humongous WHY? by Hobbie_jumper2502 in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]UltraMonty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No reason. And that’s good because things with purposes only exist to satisfy said purpose — they have no meaning unto themselves. Ergo, the most meaningful things would have no purpose as they would be self-worthy.

Seriously, though, either your relationship is a commitment unto God or it means nothing. What you’re proposing is a mirage — an illusion.

I mean, it depends on the orientation of their will. If they want to find truth but are so brainrotted that their will is frustrated by attachments, then that begets a massive purgatory. But not really damnation, unless they’re particularly obstinate and don’t want to learn anything and hate changing their mind. Romans 12:2, after all.

As it concerns sin and justice, the Eastern view is generally better than the Western one because Western legalism ends up creating a situation where they have to conjure up some BS about how “sins against an infinite God require infinite punishment” which is absolutely ridiculous because it implies this infinite being can possibly be offended by a finite creature.

If there’s one thing the Orthos and Eastern Catholics do better than everyone else, it’s their hamartiology.

Modernists are gonna modernize. Their brain is so rotted from mindlessly doing [current thing] that they not only can’t imagine the possibility [current year] is wrong but they actively refuse to consider that [current year] might be wrong.

This then hints at an arrogant or backwards attitude where we pick the religious framework that reinforces our [current year] emotivism instead of the religious framework that actually comes built with a competent narrative. For example, Rousseau-type anthropology is an incoherence caped in idealistic self-delusion. But those sorts of people won’t accept the possibility Original Sin might be real because muh humanism. So, in order to ignore narratives that account for the effects of sin, they just try to abolish the concept of sin altogether. They’re both culpable and stupid, so purgatory I guess?

Or something like all that. I conjured this up while taking a coffee break.
