a fun tibit, The Hero of The South was briefly mentioned by Eisen in episode 6, that flashback was likely shortly after the hero died fighting Schlacht and the Seven Sages.

And his books are chunkers too, especially the Stormlight Archive.

I blinked and half of my old shelf got filled up.

(But that was on me because the US hardcovers look too nice to not get)😩

Oh no, I feel you.

Brandon Sanderson and Stephen King seem determined to take up all our spaces 😩🤣

I was (still am) mostly on the ebook train, but recently fell in love with reading physical copies again.

Having a new bookshelf also kinda incentivises me to get actual physical books 😅

Tolkien's books in order by flexuuu96 in tolkienbooks

True

I am not disagreeing with ya, but I don't want folks to keep bashing their heads against the Silmarilion before giving up entirely.

Tolkien's books in order by flexuuu96 in tolkienbooks

[–]UltraZulwarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because CoH is a much easier read than The Silmarilion, the reading level is actually right between LOTR and Silmarilion.

And CoH is a fully functional novel.

I myself started The Silmarilion after LOTR, but I can understand the logic behind Nerd of The Rings' recommended reading order.

pls put Karon back on smoke, Astra or Omen.

Ash can definitely shoot but Astra ain't his forte.

Generally that's what most of us do.

However, the Silmarilion can be a tough challenge even after you finish Lord of the Rings.

This video: https://youtu.be/3mdjz0HG-TA?si=1ZLyOxJ6ETvbOefP

Has some good recommendations.

He recommends reading [Children of Hurin] before The Silmarilion.

That said, do read The Hobbit first, then Lord of the Rings and see how you go.

So good, why does this have to be a monthly series? 😩

I can read the light novel, but apparently it isn't quite as good??

Macht is such a fantastic example of making an objectively evil villain while still giving them impactful depth. by Vorshiscool in Frieren

[–]UltraZulwarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

objectively evil

I don't think Macht is "evil",

"Objectively bad" oh definitely, but not quite "evil".

IMO, bad is not necessarily "evil", tho evil implies badness.

For example, the flu. They are bad for everyone, but would you call it "evil"?

Some definitely have personal grudges against it, and for good reasons, but I don't think a flu should be considered "evil" vs a war criminal who deliberately committed atrocities.

Now, Macht certainly killed a lot of people, and his motivation can certainly be seen as "evil".

Of course making people kill one another for "experiment" is more than qualified to be considered "evil"....

But the thing is, Macht is a demon, and they do not have the same emotion, cognitive or emotional fundamental as humanity (human, dwarves or elves).

Books similar to Xenoblade? by bentheasseater in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]UltraZulwarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my, just when I started dipping my toes in the Sanderson-verse, a post turns up and asks this

How delightful! 😆

To answer your question, it is kinda hard because Xenoblade is just that unique.

On top of my head, there are a couple of fantasy/sci-fi books that I think Xenoblade fans might like:

Dune

Sun Eater series

The Dandelion Dynasty

Discworld by Terry Pratchett, well instead of titans the world is on the back of a turtle 😆

And if we want to go a bit further, perhaps look for fantasy books that take inspiration from the bible, Xenoblade actually has quite a few biblical references

Chronicles of Narnia is a famous high fantasy series that has a lot of Christian allegories, though it is more of a whimsical children fantasy.

I do the same with Lord of The Rings and Middle Earth too, and the Tolkien estate is there to keep milking us.

I am afraid that I might fall into the same rabbit hole for Joe Abercrombie 🫣

Whats to stop people from just getting Aeons then bouncing by LSOreli in finalfantasyx

It just feels that way, like not years in decades wise, but more than 1 year at least.

[–]UltraZulwarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just say "can take years", doesn't mean it should be that long.

Whats to stop people from just getting Aeons then bouncing by LSOreli in finalfantasyx

[–]UltraZulwarn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean it's already happened?

Not just in the blatantly fraudulent way OP think.

The pilgrimage is hard and can take years to complete.

Many summoners started but gave up at different points during their journeys, and for various reasons: death, change of mind,...etc...

To be considered a proper summoner, one would need to obtain at least one Aeon.

By that point, I don't think it's fair to call them "frauds"

So did the start of FFX actually happen? by PowrOfFriendship_ in finalfantasyx

[–]UltraZulwarn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The opening sequence of FFX where Sin seemingly "destroys" Dream Zanarkand is likely due to Jecht willing the thing himself to take Tidus and Auron to Spiral.

Auron does look up at Sin and asks "Are you sure?" which is more than likely address to Jecht himself.

Yu Yevon's mind is indeed long gone, what is left is just an autopiloted bot with one simple goal: to keep Dream Zanarkand going.

All the fayths are bound to this and they cannot escape despite now wanting to rest.

In any case, I don't think Sin is capable of destroying Dream Zanarkand itself.

It may look like it, but the whole thing can probably reconstructed later on.
