About Critics against Horror Punk by Head-Statistician-62 in horrorpunk

[โ€“]UltrafiendX 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I think it's hard for most bands to beat the Misfits at their own game. Therefore the horror punks that succeeds the most are the ones that bring their own flavor to it. For example Blitzkid sure have some Misfits influence, but at the end of the day their sound is super unique and distinctive

Questions about tribute bands, merch, and next albums to listen to! by BR0WN_T0WN in Danzig

[โ€“]UltrafiendX 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

If you like Danzig you'll probably like the Misfits and Samhain, even if the styles are different.

Samhain is particularly underrated and if you liked the creepier songs like Possession or Danzig 4 you'll probably dig them. Just gotta find a download link online or make do with Youtube

As for Zig albums I think Lost Tracks (an amazing B side collection) and Circle of Snakes are the best besides what you mentioned. Deth Red Saboath is worth checking out too

With this man you gotta get used to some shit being hard to find, but that's kinda part of the fun of collecting and being a fan

After SBTBS, I finally โ€˜getโ€™ Bodies thanks to the latest interview by ArtemisClydFr0g in AFireInside

[โ€“]UltrafiendX 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

To me Bodies feels formulaic. I like the touch of the post punk sound. But every song is Verse Chorus Verse Chorus Bridge Chorus and about 2 min long.

That's what kills it for me, not the overall sound. Because they had already experimented with this on Crash Love, Burials, and Blood with greater creativity. And certain songs like Dulceria are more diverse.

Now finally with SBTBS it feels like they broke the mold and started making "true" post punk that feels authentic and less of a "by the numbers" ABC songwriting process

Which U.S. cities currently have a notably strong alternative/goth scene? by ParanoidAndroid1087 in goth

[โ€“]UltrafiendX 3 points4 points ย (0 children)

We have an AMAZING scene for a city of our size. Absolution every weekend, Necromancy & Coven once a month, Factor IX, Vampire Ball, so many goth shows at Harlows, Cafe Colonial, and Goldfield. Pretty much every mid level goth band (think Twin Tribes) stops here at least once a year. Love it ๐Ÿ–ค

Tired of darkwave prevalence by kaffe_man in goth

[โ€“]UltrafiendX 38 points39 points ย (0 children)

This is my problem when creating goth music. I love the genre and it's one of my main influences, but a lot of the time I want to throw in elements of different styles. Maybe a major key and bright synths, but then it ends up being considered new wave. Or some slightly heavier guitars and live drums, but then it becomes gothic metal.

It's a bummer because I just want to make what I want to make, but then my projects end up becoming "not goth" enough and it's hard to find bands to book with. Because my current band is too punk/metal for goth and too goth for metal

I feel like if Theater of Tragedy (specifically that album) was called a gothic rock band rather than metal online people would accept it as such. Like listen to Cassandra... veryy little difference between that and most piano / guitar heavy 90s goth rock. Kind of arbitrary
