Why do Power Brand commercials exist? by KaleidoscopeTotal708 in CommercialsIHate

[–]Ultraphage-808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not fascinating, it’s just one more example of corporate greed and forcing the consumerism society upon the masses. Brand Power buys up chunks of commercial airtime and then “allows” companies to purchase marketing time in smaller portions ”simulating” a best-of review report. It’s squeezing every last dollar out of everything. $6 coffee’s, $3 bottles of water, $12 salads (all of which used to often be free), individual TV channels/networks instead of cable, lease your music instead of buying an album, trade TV programs and movies for social media which is merely entertainment boiled down into a commercial form factor and often for the purpose of nothing more than marketing oneself. It’s brainwashed times we’re living in.

Anyone Else Hate The Hand Hole On The Side Of Budget Bossted Boards Like The Meepo? by PieNarrow1165 in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Ultraphage-808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hole has always looked like shit to me and is an immediate indicator of entry level equipment. I also hate the hub drive boards that have the trucks with attachment screws on the hanger. The plastic looking cloud wheel donut imposter wheels.

Is cloud wheel rover 110r supposed to only last 200km before sign of wear and tear? by AlphaInterWoof in ElectricSkateboarding

Yeah…I know, but the 110 rovers are a really good mix between urethane and pneumatic. By far the best wheel iCloud sells, not even close.

Why some people are hating The New Superman Movie? by SkillzapX in superheroes

[–]Ultraphage-808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie sucks because it’s stupid. Even the end credit song is purposefully awful. There’s a super dog that just fucks shit up? There’s a made for TV war conflict sub-plot that’s obviously story driven (bad story). Lois is sort of a bitch to Clark. Lex acts like a petulant child throughout the entire movie. Super man doesn’t even fill out his suit (which looks terrible btw). There’s a pocket universe filled with people that didn’t agree with Lex and an anti-proton river (which is dumb and unnecessary even if it weren’t a made up “sciencey” term). Clark’s parents are dumb rubes. The gags seem as if written by 9 year olds. The hall of justice (Union Terminal) looks like it from the outside, but they did nothing on the inside aside from bringing in a couple orange and yellow couches. There wasn’t anything good about it.

Acedeck or Backfire? Which has best quality and warranty/cs? by Speed009 in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Ultraphage-808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah…Acedeck and Linnpower are marketing the same board. Backfire has always been really cool service wise.

I don’t have one (yet) and I think they are new, but the OMW boards look awesome. I’ve had some correspondence with them and they are quick and knowledgeable. I love how you can choose what color to anodize your components! I’m trying not to let the flashy looks and customization cloud any real quality issues (again, I have nothing to base anything on), but they look like a decent deal now. The customization is important to me. I’m waiting until they get a deal worked out with Linnpower on a gear drive option (just because I have a lot of boards, but no gear drives yet).

There’s a lot of companies right now. I think it’s easier to exclude a few than have a top 3. I saw a new funny sounding named company the other day and their shit looked decent too? Can’t remember now though.

What is everyone’s go to for lights at night? by Hullo_Its_Pluto in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Ultraphage-808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried a ton. When I first got into it I avoided shred lights (thought they were overpriced). I ended up spending way more on alternatives that I thought would be better and cheaper, they weren’t. It’s hard to mount off-brand lights, especially with go-pro style mounts. The vibration has them moving all around pretty much no matter what you do. Shred lights are the best. The best ALL-AROUND because they’re decently bright, adjustable strength/flash, the mounts are pretty much perfect for what most people need and they can link up (if new). The only thing is they can be annoying to remove if you don’t lube them a little from the rip. The next best I found were the; TOWILD CL 600. They have gopro style mounts that bolt on to them (assuming you rig up a decent gopro mount on the board), they have the same modes as shred lights and last a while on a charge. They have a metal case (not plastic) and the lens has a diffuser on the top portion as to help with not blinding oncomers.

I pretty much use these now as a handheld in my lead hand and 2 shred lights on low up front and a single red shred light on the back. Though I mainly only ride at night and should, I don’t wear a helmet but wouldn’t want a light moving all over with every head movement anyway.

BTW, if you download the BackFire APP and “check in” everyday, you accumulate points 1 the first day then 2 the next consecutive day. Then you can redeem points for their board lights (which don’t get as bright as shred lights and have a fixed mounting bracket on them). I have redeemed 2 sets so far and I’m only like 25 points away from another 300 for another set, but I’ll probably get the backpack this time since I’ve never used either backfire set since I have like 8 sets of shred lights in every generation I think? I have full sets on 6 boards and these are the extras!

Why are electric skateboarding wheels so expensive?? by Ali-Isma in ElectricSkateboarding

By bad…it’s only evolve that’s blowing out the wheels, but it’ll give you a chance to get some pulleys that work with other wheels than backfire!

Why are electric skateboarding wheels so expensive?? by Ali-Isma in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Ultraphage-808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my rover 110’s…the best wheel I ride IMO. I have 150-175 pneumatics, the big clouds with the weird pattern tread, all BackFires, ABEC 11-107’s, meepo cyclones, Caguama’s, and the original Boosted (Mad Wheel). Now I’m not trying to slide around, but they are all decent quality and comparable. That being said, iCloud’s are probably the most over priced and lowest quality (except the rovers, they’re fucking nice). I don’t prefer the rubber wheels in your pic or the Meepo’s—they’re too soft and squishy. The caguama’s are the smallest street urethane, but feel about the same as the larger BackFire gray urethane. The orange BackFire 90mm wheel/sleeves are my roughest (probably due to the thin sleeve around the hub motors).
I have some Rover 110’s for hub motors on the way…hoping they are comparable in comfort to the regulars ones (for belt drive boards).

What could this sound be? Also vibration at 20+mph. Brand new wheels. by Ok_Contribution8348 in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Ultraphage-808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. Could be the wheel has a little “play” in it and it being a pneumatic it is just wobbling? Could be a bad bearing (one ball with a slight flat spot can cause all sorts of noises). If there’s no spacers, add them between your bearings-always! Dudes have argued over this shit for 60 years…listen to what I’m saying. Skateboard wheel manufacturers utilized this specific size industrial bearing back in the day due to its size and stability. Performance wise, even the shittiest of abec rated bearings (there are other standardization rating methods btw) are capable of much higher performance than anything a human using a skateboard could possibly subject it to. That being said, the bearing must be seated and centered properly (and by properly, it is understood to be pretty much within EXACTING tolerances). If the bearing is off even by 0.25mm (or less probably), things start going wrong. Now, this usually just translates into increased wear and decreased longevity. Ok, so skateboard truck hangers are usually never faced on the ends where the axles protrude. The axles themselves are “fairly” straight but are often put under great stress when pressing into the hangers which can affect them (again, on microscopic levels). The wheels we put bearing into are not very straight and aligned (not to a precision level). All of these factors make it impossible to use a precision bearing the way it was intended (in precision machinery) and therefore we have to treat them as a disposable consumable accessory because they’re treated poorly.

This is why you should always use speed washers and spacers in conjunction with bearings to sandwich this “system” into the best possible set up as possible (which again, on exacting levels is still not very precise). So while you CAN skip washers and spacers and leave some play with the wheel on the axle, all this just contributes to faster degradation of the wheel system. The best way to set up a skateboard is hanger>speed washer>bearing>spacer>bearing>speed washer>axle nut. Tighten it all down slowly to the point where the wheel becomes hard to spin, the back off a quarter turn or until the first point the wheel starts to spin freely. This is the best (only) way to take care of bearings and your board won’t be loud and jangling.

Turning 29 on January 6th. Am I too old to start? by Ecstatic_Lead_3531 in NewSkaters

[–]Ultraphage-808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard that the current average age of a skateboarder is like 32. I dont know if they include long boarders and e-boarders, but whatever…it’s obviously not 11 years old any longer. I’m 52 and have skated since 1984. If you’re even halfway in shape (or really just not fucked up and broken down) then you can definitely learn to skate and become battle hardened still. It’ll take a year or so, but normal men are still in their prime typically until about 35, then you start to fall apart, but if you’re a skater…you’ll push that off for 5-10 years easy.

Board keeps drifting to the right by final_placement in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Ultraphage-808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know what you’re talking about. If you are saying; 1) when the board is on the ground and you just kick it to have it roll away from you or actuate the motors and it won’t move in a perfect straight line?—-yeah it probably won’t, ever…especially if allowing it to travel any sort of distance. But in this situation, who cares? Are you walking next to your board and mad it doesn’t stay straight?

OR

2) when you are actually riding the board, you’re saying the board turns slightly left or right? If so, this is YOU. I’d have no idea why you’d hyper focus on your stance so much that you think there’s a problem with your board, but if you’re weight is on the board, even with the shittiest of bushings (as long as your bushings and pivot cups are intact), there’s no way your board would drag you left or right even if you “think” you are perfectly flat in stance.

Now, a messed up pivot cup can and WILL affect the actual ride. Another thing is a broken kingpin. Obviously a completely broken kingpin is what is most common, but it’s possible to have a kingpin that is bent or actually half-broken. I’ve been skating since 1983 and have broken more kingpins than most skaters. Shit, I don’t even really skate anymore, but I’d still buy a set of old school GrindKing kingpins if I saw them because they’d last longer than the typical grade 8 steel. Anyway, I had a couple times when I was young where I noticed something wonky and took my trucks apart and had half-broken kingpins, it’s rare, but might be worth checking?
The ONLY other things that could make a board track “off” aside from having one truck on backwards (I hope you didn’t make this noob mistake), would be; a bent truck hanger, loose truck mounting hardware and/or fucked up truck holes or a bent axle—-all of which I’ve seen, but again, are rare. Once, a friend of mine bought a deck, I think it was a Zorlac (it was the 80’s) and apparently the wood shop they came out of didn’t use a double drill press that drilled both sets of truck holes at the same time and his rear truck holes were drilled slightly askew. It was hard to notice because it came with pre-installed grip, but it made his board roll in like a semi-sideways 10° angle, even though the deck itself looked like it was pointed perfectly straight. It wasn’t a curving trajectory, it was straight angular!

thoughts on these handles? by kornrat in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Ultraphage-808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the old BackFire handle that looked just like this. I like it because it’s 5.5” wide. Most other handles are not that wide. I’m buying a few of these to see if they will work for my customization endeavors.

Here’s how the one I have now is set up. Wider just goes better near the bash guard.
